JR-I RESEARCH WORKS---TERM 3

26 comments:

  1. 1. Homosexuality is viewed and shown here as something that deteriorates a person and destroys their dignity and brings shame to himself and family.
    2. Hanggang sa naging binata na ako
Teka muna mali, dalaga na pala 'to
    - this shows that homosexuals aren't accepted just because they are different from others in thought and actions

    3. Homosexuals must be treated:
    - As equal as the heterosexuals
    - With care and understanding
    - And with compassion as they are people also
    4. In the US homos are treated equally finally after centuries of oppression and discrimination towards them
    5. Homos are treated harshly and with hate.
    6. Homosexuality is not a disease, it's just that we discriminate just because they are different. They are still people as well and should be treated equally since the discrimination that is being held upon them is like the discrimination on other races which is discouraged, so if racial discrimination is discouraged why can't gender discrimination be?
    7. The way that homosexuality is accepted is very different from Asian and western countries, in the western world they are more accepted than in Asian countries where there is still discrimination.

    1. The homosexual person is being beaten up and shown as a disgrace to the families because of how different they are and how they supposedly do not fit in society.

    2. "Akong paluin ng tubo kahit kinakalawang"
"Kapag ako'y naiiyak ay sumusugod sa ambon"
"Kasi araw-araw na lamang ay walang humpay na banat"
    "Kahit anong gawin nila
    Bandera ko'y di tutumba..."

    3. Homosexuals are still humans and even if they are said to have a disease, they are still part of our society. That being said, homosexuals should no longer be abused. They should be able to roam freely without being publicly humiliated, be able to freely express themselves but not to the point that they show PDA (as its not acceptable for boy and girl relationship). Lastly, they should be treated with the same love as we receive.

    4. I respect the decision of the supreme court. Humans deserve to be treated with respect and with their rights in our heads. That being said, I believe that the Love wins case is just.

    5. It's disappointing to know that because of a preference, we treat someone like an animal. We lose respect for a decision that sometimes, is influenced by the uncontrollable environmental factors.

    6. It is NOT a disease. You know what I believe is a disease? Dishonesty, corruption, and many practices that "regular" people should be considered as a disease. Having love and passion for something should not be considered a disease. These homosexuals sometimes have more use in society than heterosexuals.

    7. Western countries have more liberal thoughts towards homosexuality. In asian countries however, they tend to be more traditional and count these as disgraces.

  3. 1. In the video, the guy there way gay and it explains his life and how he is treated. The other guys make fun of the gays and don't treat them right just because of their sexuality.
    3. Homosexuals should be treated just like every other person. Just because someone is gay or lesbian doesn't mean you are to treat them differently. People shouldn't bully them because that's what's mainly done. In fact, we should help them out in any problem, defend them, and care for them since they undergo many problems/illnesses
    4. In my opinion, I am fine with love winning. There are so much couples out there that have the right to get married because they love each other. It was probably their nature in being who they are, it wasn't much of a choice. People shouldn't not be allowed to get married. It is just not right especially if they did no harm. Even though God created man and woman, it is still human beings that are in his image and all people have the right to get married, in my opinion.
    5. In my opinion, we should NOT be treated differently/bad or be punished for being homosexual. We should be treated just like everyone else. They are torturing people for no crime being done just for simply being a homosexual. This is already being racist in a way. They should stop this horrible act because it's unfair to those who are being affected by this.
    6. I don't think homosexuality is considered as a sickness. It is true nature because they feel this way but it's not really a choice of theirs either.
    7. In Asian countries, the treatment of homosexuality is fair because everyone accepts those who are homosexual. There is no need and reason so treat them different, they are still human and almost the same as everyone else. In western countries, they believe that being homosexual is bad because of their beliefs therefore they punish and bully them.

  4. 1. Homosexuality is interpreted as a choice in the song, as the man is very proud of who he is.
    2. "Kahit anong sabihin nila ako ay ubod ng ganda"

"Dahil ba ang mga kilos ko'y iba"

"Upang matakpan ang mga pass sa mukha na galing sa aking ama"

"Na tila di natutuwa ang tuwing ako'y nasisilayam Laging nalalatayan"

"Drum na may tubig ang sinisisid naglalakihang mga braso, saki'y dumidikdik"

    3. Homosexuals in my opinion, should just be treated like normal men. They should not be discriminated just for their sexual orientation. They should not be prevented from getting jobs that are for both men and women. Homosexuals should not be bullied.

    4. I am for the case of "love wins" (in my opinion, same sex marriage should be allowed) because in this day and generation, marriage should not be for reproduction or anything else, other than love.

    5. I am very much against the way the islams think, in the case of homosexuals, they are still people that deserve no better or worse than everyone in society.

    6. I dont see homosexuality as a disease, but more of an "error" in genetic coding, where the genetics mixed up the sexuality of male and female genders.

    7. Westerners and Asians treat homosexuals differently, because, homosexuals act differently in each culture, here they are more likely to crossdress and act "feminine" because they are too proud of being gay. Whereas homosexuals in western countries are treated much like everyone else, because they still act like men.

    1. In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.

The MTV “Sirena” depicts a brutal reality of how homosexuality is viewed by the present society. It is sung in through a homosexual himself in order to reveal, first hand, the unjust and inhumane treatment of his own family and friends borne out on his difference in gender.

    2. What key statements or phrases in the lyrics would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals. Write at least 5.

"Akong paluin ng tubo kahit kinakalawang”
"Kapag ako'y naiiyak ay sumusugod sa ambon”
"Kasi araw-araw na lamang ay walang humpay na banat”
"Kahit anong gawin nila, bandera ko'y di tutumba…”
"Halata mo na kapag naglalaro kaya parang lahat ay nalilito”

    3. How then should homosexuals be properly treated. Give at least three concrete examples.

Homosexuals are human beings which I believe should not receive any distinct treatment. To further elaborate, they must be treated as equals in our society as they stand merely as regular individuals. In this case, discrimination against them in any form such as bullying, unnecessary harassment or hostile behavior should not be tolerated; their rights must be guarded; and lastly, they must be given equal access to resources, especially those regarding health and safety including IVF and fertility treatment.

    4. Love wins case in the US Supreme Court. Give your opinion.

Personally, I am in complete favor of the US Supreme Court’s recent decision of legalizing gay marriage. Although many may argue that this is against God’s will, it would be highly ironic to deprive humans from attaining genuine happiness by forbidding them to love as it is through this method that society truly opposes the Lord's inclination for prosperity. All humans are equal, and in allowing love to win, the US upholds this essential idea.

    5. Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals”.

Based on the article entitled "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals”, I was given a glimpse on the maltreatment towards homosexuals, and how this behaviour has become commonly accepted in Islam. I believe that this system should be immediately irradiated as it promotes injustice, and may only instigate further conflict in the region.

    6. Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines. Give your reaction.

A sickness is defined as an unhealthy condition of the body or mind. I strongly defy this view of homosexuality as a difference in gender does not correspond to one’s diseased state, but rather, his or her preference. I believe that it is wrong for anyone to comprehend homosexuality as a negative aspect of a man’s being, as this sexual preference is identical to all given genders.

    7. Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.

Western countries are more inclined towards homosexuality as they view this particular issue in a liberal sense. In comparison to the West, Asian countries are considered conservative as they are clearly conditioned to following several religious and cultural beliefs, which do not highly uphold nor favor homosexuality.

In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.
The music video “Sirena” showcases that homosexuals are highly discriminated by society. They are insulted and treated as if they are not human.

    2. What key statements or phrases in the lyrics would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals. Write at least 5.

    3. How then should homosexuals be properly treated. Give at least three concrete examples.
Homosexuals should be treated like how we should treat everyone else — with respect. Homosexuals are human beings as well, and just because we are not used or accustomed to their preferences in terms of gender, it does not give us a right to harm them. Homosexuals should be given the freedom to love who they want to love.

    4. Love wins case in the US Supreme Court. Give your opinion.
    - I am happy that the Supreme Court has legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states. Everyone, whether they are straight or homosexual, has the right to marry. I believe that more countries should do this so that we can all take a step in achieving equality in the whole world.

    5. Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals”.
    - It saddens me that homosexuals are treated like this by Talebans. They are treated inhumanely, and have punishments ranging from 5 years of prison, to castration, to even death. It also confuses me why homosexuals are PUNISHED. Homosexuality is not a crime — it is not evil. Besides, a person’s homosexuality is THEIR own decision. It is their life, their choices, and their preferences, therefore other people should just mind their own business instead of interfering and punishing.

    6. Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines. Give your reaction.
I disagree that homosexuality is a disease or sickness. One does not choose who they want to love, they just do. Homosexuality is simply something only few are accustomed to, and I believe we should all be open-minded towards homosexuals because they are just being themselves. God teaches us to love and accept all, so we must learn to love and accept homosexuals. There is nothing “wrong” or “sickly” about being a homosexual.

    7. Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.
Homosexuality and LGBT rights in Asia are limited when compared to LGBT rights in Western/European countries. LGBT rights are more diverse in European countries. Moreover, 13 out of the 20 countries that legalized gay marriage worldwide come from Europe. Meanwhile, same-sex sexual activity is outlawed in at least 20 Asian countries, and only 9 Asian countries allow same-sex people to serve the military.

    1. "Sirena" portrays the difficult life of homosexuals—how they are taunted for being different and not acting according to their "gender." In the song, we can see how the artist undergoes a lot of beatings and abusive behavior from his friends and, shockingly, his father. At the end of the song, we can see the father's regret for his actions as he apologized to his son.

    2. Some lyrics that would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals are:

    3. Homosexuals should be treated like human beings; they are just like you and I—except they have different preferences.
    a) They should be given the right, globally, to marry whoever they want.
    b) Homosexuals should not be shunned by society just because of their sexual orientation.
    c) Old punishments and traditions should be abolished—like crushing homosexuals with walls, and stoning them to death.

    4. I am a supporter of the love wins case in the US Supreme Court. In my opinion, two people, no matter their gender, should be able to show their love for each other through the bond of marriage. I know that the Bible clearly states that "marriage is strictly between a man and a woman," but times have changed since then. Didn't the Bible also encourage killing siblings and sacrificing children? Isn't the Bible's main message to love everyone, all the time, regardless of who they are and what they've done? Who are we to judge others, just because they prefer something other than what we do? Marriage shouldn't be a privilege, only given to heterosexuals—it should be a right, given to everyone. After all, everyone deserves his/her own happily ever after.

    5. Although I know that not all Islams treat homosexuals this way, I would like for people to remember that, as time goes on, we change. We're human—changing and growing up is the never-ending cycle we will all experience. It is also important to remember that, with time, comes different societies. The values and traditions upheld in society before must be different from those of today, as people are more educated and understanding of the world. In the end, I just hope that people are not afraid to change, because it is was helps us learn more about God, about who we are, and help us become who we want to be.

    1. PART 2

      6. Dengue, flu, cough and colds: all common diseases that plague our country. Homosexuality is not one of them. Just because your preferences are different from the vast majority's, doesn't mean that you're "sick" or you've got something wrong in your DNA. It's like having a friend that loves oranges even though everybody hates them, and because of this, your friend gets bullied and abused by society. I can recall reading an article about how a baby's personality gets developed in the first few months of pregnancy—which means that you can't "catch" homosexuality; it's not infectious, nor is it contagious. Liking the same gender and taking an interest in all genders doesn't mean something went wrong in your genes, but homosexuality is a part of you; you are born with it. You are programmed to be that way. God created you that way. Nothing is wrong with having a different taste; after all, we were created in God's image and likeness. Who are we to judge others when we, ourselves, are not perfect and almighty like He is?

      7. Western countries, like the United States, are more open to accepting homosexuals, whereas Asian countries, like the Philippines or Iraq, still treat homosexuals in a negative manner. In the US, same sex marriage has been legalized, while in Iraq, homosexuals are stoned/crushed to death and shunned by the community. A big contribution to the way these countries treat homosexuals is the beliefs and traditions its people uphold. In America, people are more democratic—the land of the free, wherein those in the community are encouraged to express themselves and live their lives the way they want to. In Asian countries, on the other hand, people are brainwashed with traditions and beliefs from childhood. In my opinion, though the countries are very much in contrast when it comes to the topic of homosexuality, one thing is for certain: if we want to see change, we must start by teaching the youth. Start changing traditions and break the standards! Talking about homosexuality won't get us anywhere—by simply starting to talk more good than bad about those homosexuals, we will be able to spread positivity and love.

    1.  In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.
In "Sirena," a homosexual is presented as a person who acts and behaves like what "normally" his/her opposite gender would act and behave. In this MTV in particular, it is a guy trying to portray himself as a female.

    2.  What key statements or phrases in the lyrics would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals.  Write at least 5.

    a. "Naglalakihang mga braso, saki'y dumidikdik"
    b. "Upang matakpan ang mga pasa sa mukha na galing sa aking ama, na tila di natutuwa sa tuwing ako'y nasisilayan"
c."Pero bakit parang lahat ay nalilito pa rin?"
d."Kahit kinalyo na sa tapang, kasi ganun na lamang"
e."Akong paluin ng tubo kahit kinakalawang"
    f. "Aking mga kapatid, lahat sila'y sumama. Nagpakalayo-layo ni hindi makabisita"

    3.  How then should homosexuals be properly treated.  Give at least three concrete examples.
Homosexuals must be treated as one of us, for they, too, are human beings like us. For example, we should give them a chance for what they do. They may make society a better place. Second, be kind to them. It doesn't hurt to be kind to anyone. One day, they may pay us back the favor. Lastly, let them be for who they are. They never forced us to be like them. Why can't we do the same? The greatest things may come from the most unexpected.

    4.  Love wins case in the US Supreme Court.  Give your opinion.
Disclaimer: This is just my opinion. It may or may not change in the future.

I'm both happy and sad that homosexuals can get married. What makes me happy is that homosexuals are recognized by the Americans. There's equality. That's a plus I can give. The part that makes me sad, though, is the "marriage" part. I understand and respect the existence of homosexual relationships; however, marriage, as a sacrament, must not be tainted. We have to remember that marriage is a sacrament that bonds a man and a woman as one. I know that a homosexual couple can carry out the provisions and obligations of legitimate marriage (with child bearing replaced by adoption), but let's think about the sanctity of marriage. The view of marriage may be distorted among people, and they may not take it as something serious anymore.

      5. Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals".

Honestly, I couldn't stand how homosexuals are being viewed by Islam. We can't blame them for who they are. We have no right to judge people for their sexuality. Punishing them for who they are will just bring us down to the level of the murderers, rapists, and other criminals. It's irrational and unfair for them. Remember, everyone must be given equitable opportunities, for we all have varying circumstances. Though equality is nice to have, equity answers what we truly need and want. This especially applies to the homosexuals - who need to be protected from harsh cultures of homophobic cultures.

      6. Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines. Give your reaction.

I'm actually surprised about the new definition of homosexuality under the Civil Code. I thought our country is an open country. It turns out that it wasn't. A disease? Really? You don't treat non-heterosexual sexualities as diseases. It's a choice a person made. You can't "infect" a person of homosexuality. Like what John Locke said in his nurture theory, we started as "tabula rasa," and whatever ways our environment will mold us would affect our sexuality. I know that there exists actual diseases like autism and hysteria, but even mentally unstable people can perform well. Moreover, it has been noted that homosexuals don't display adverse activities that harm others. They can act "normal" like us. They function how we function like how we do. If they did, then they must have done bad deeds that hurt others that we do like stealing and murder.

      7. Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.

For me, it's actually hard to distinguish Western and Asian countries with regards to treatment of homosexuality especially in Asia where there's a hotpot for non-Christian religions. Though I have little knowledge as to how they view homosexuality, most of them would condemn homosexuality unlike most Western countries these days. Islam, in particular, is actually one of the prominent non-Christian religions known for persecuting homosexuals.

    1.  In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.
    - Gloc-9's song depicts the cruel reality that homosexuals suffer everyday. The song and music video is presented in first person point of view, to reveal the inhumane treatment these people experience from society.

    2.  What key statements or phrases in the lyrics would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals? Write at least 5.

"Simula pa nang bata pa ako,
    Halata mo na kapag naglalaro
    Kaya parang lahat ay nalilito,"

Drum na may tubig ang sinisisid

Aking mga kapatid, lahat sila'y sumama
    Nagpakalayo-layo ni hindi makabisita

Akay-akay sa paglakad paisa isang hakbang"

    "Ako'y isang sirena
    Kahit anong gawin nila
    Bandera ko'y di tutumba."

    3.  How then should homosexuals be properly treated? Give at least three concrete examples.
    - I believe that homosexuals should be treated with the same respect as heterosexuals, because they are also human beings with rights given to them by the law and by God. Any form of bullying, harassment, and anti-gay slurs must be completely avoided and eradicated; as well as enhancing their rights to health and safety.

    4.  Love wins case in the US Supreme Court. Give your opinion.
    - In my opinion, I am in favor of the Supreme Court's decision to legalizing gay marriage in the United States. I see this as a big step in accepting the LGBT community and a path for the world to seeing these people as equals.

    5.  Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals".
    - Personally, I believe that the Taliban treated these people like animals; I see no reason why they would do such a thing. Homosexuality isn't an evil thing, because because being a homosexual doesn't hurt anyone and it most certainly won't destroy your relationship with God. Who are we to judge, except God alone?

    6.  Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines.  Give your reaction.
    - Diseases are acquired from bacteria, germs, and fungi. I believe that people are born with the capability to love, either as a homosexual or as a heterosexual, it is part of life. Personally, I think that people should not see this as a negative aspect of man because God gave us the freedom to love everyone and to accept people the way they are.

    7.  Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.
    - Western countries are more accepting to the LGBT community compared to Asian countries, like the Philippines and Iraq. Westerners treat them as equals by enhancing their rights and encouraging the youth to express themselves. However, homosexuals in Asian countries are deemed as lesser beings. They are treated like garbage and they are shunned and harassed in their communities.

    1. In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.

The interpretation based on the lyrics of the song is that homosexuals should not be judged because they are as much of a person as everyone else.

I am for this because this provides equality to everyone. This law, if people were to follow it, would mean that the sam sex partner would have the rights that a nomrla married couple would have.

    5. Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals".

The way they treat homosexuals has come to a very high extreme to the point where the punishment for it is torture. In their beliefs they see homosexuals as pure evil or something that pertains to hell or even the devil. The punishments seem so grievous because that would mean that signs of homosexuality would be lessened due to the punishment it causes.

    6. Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines. Give your reaction.

Homosexuality is more of a choice rather than a form of sickness and disease, there are of course other factors that could be the reason why he/she would become a homosexual in from the start. This is more of a case of equating sick to different.

    7. Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.

Western countries are surely more open to it than asian countries solely based of the more obvious and vocal support the government of western countries such as US and several Countries in Europe wherein there is more backlash when one would go against same sex marriage rather than support.

    1. In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.
A homosexual (usually boys) is seen as a shame to society. These people are stereotypically described as very feminine, a shame, a nobody, and a disappointment to the family most especially to the father. This ‘bakla’ is often abused by his father by drowning his head on a water drum (hence “drum na may tubig sinisisid”) until he admits that he is a guy.

    2. What key statements or phrases in the lyrics would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals. Write at least 5.
“Magaling sa chinese garter at piko” - which shows that chinese garter and piko are games usually played by girls and not boys.
2-3. “Habang kumekembot ang bewang, / Mga hikaw na gumegewang” - shows the transformation of this person and how much the person detests or despises it.
4-6. “Gamit ang pulbos na binili kay Aling Bebang / Upang matakpan ang mga pasa sa mukha / Na galing sa aking ama” - self-explanatory statement. fathers are usually against sons that are homosexuals

    3. How then should homosexuals be properly treated. Give at least three concrete examples.
    > should be treated like normal people in society
    > should be treated like a human and not something very different
    > these people must be respected regardless of how we see these homosexuals

I am glad that other countries (although wrong and against the teachings of the Church and the Lord) are accepting that these people, the LGBT, should be given equal rights because these people are normal, everyday humans just like us. “Love wins” is an overused phrase nowadays but it makes me happy to see that these people finally have a chance to make their love official and valid in today’s society through marriage.

    5. Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals".
The way these people treat homosexuals is way too much. Sure, you have to stick with your beliefs and practices but these people are also human beings and should be treated like one. Imagine if someone really close to you will be sentenced to death just because they feel very different on the inside.

    6. Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines. Give your reaction.
Homosexuality is a feeling of one person on how they prefer their sexuality to be. Therefore, these feelings are NOT something to be assumed as a sickness since it is one’s personal reference to be either straight, gay, or trans. Like for instance, you get crazy because something drove you crazy. I believe that mental illnesses get triggered with a CERTAIN reason like genetics or personal experiences.

    7. Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.
Western countries: more open and accepting of homosexuals, they don’t have a solid foundation for religion, adjusting to the present
Asian: we see homosexuals as a whole different species of people, we really stick to our beliefs, laws and religion, we prefer old ways than adjusting to the present

    1. In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.

This song how hard it is to live as a homosexual especially in this country. We live in a Catholic country where being homosexual is not accepted as well as being a very conservative country, thus being homosexual is seen a a bad and horrible thing. In his own first person depiction of his own experience with his family and how they have treated him due to his sexuality. It shows how even family will treat you differently and badly just because you are a homosexual.

    2. What key statements or phrases in the lyrics would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals. Write at least 5.

"Akong paluin ng tubo kahit kinakalawang”
"Dahil ba ang mga kilos ko'y iba"
"Upang matakpan ang mga pass sa mukha na galing sa aking ama"
"Kapag ako'y naiiyak ay sumusugod sa ambon”
"Kasi araw-araw na lamang ay walang humpay na banat”

    3. How then should homosexuals be properly treated. Give at least three concrete examples.

Homosexuals must be treated like every other person, they must be given the same rights the straight people get. There must be no discrimination in work places, school, or wherever in the world you are, there should be no bias or prejudice against them. There must also be equal rights and protection from the government to homosexuals. They must also be given equal access to resources and services for they are human beings, all people have their rights and we must not deprive them of anything just because they are homosexuals.

    4. Love wins case in the US Supreme Court. Give your opinion.

I am happy that we are taking these steps to having a world full of equality and full of people who love one another and respect one another. We are taking correct steps to accept homosexuals into society and this is a good way of showing them that we are for them. We are finally treating them like human beings rather than a different kind of people who do not deserve the same rights. I am completely for this case and would like to see even bigger steps in the future.

    5. Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals”.

I was horrified by what they do to homosexuals. It is inhumane and unjust. No human deserves to be treated like that, especially since they did not do anything wrong. Those people are being themselves, they were made like that and who deserves to be tortured and punished for being themselves? This is pure injustice and purely immoral, we must no treat anyone like this. I hope this stops and we begin to accept one another.

    1. 6. Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines. Give your reaction.

Being a homosexual is who a person is. They did not choose to be homosexual, they did not choose this lifestyle, they did not choose their sexuality. This is who they are, it is not a disease or a sickness because it is who a person is. It is not something wrong, it is not something bad that can be cured or changed. If you are gay, you are gay, there is no changing that. Diseases can be cured, homosexuality cannot be cured because it is not a disease, it is a person’s identity.

      7. Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.

Western countries have been taking better steps to accept homosexuals and due to their liberal sense and their separation of church and state, they are beginning to accept and welcome homosexuals to their society. They are many rights and laws protecting these people and it is goo that they are helping them and finally starting to treat these people with human dignity. Asian countries are very conservative, they are not very open to change for they keep true to what they know. That is just their culture, to follow what has always been there. So history has said that homosexuals are bad and being gay is a disease and needs to be cured so they feel that they must change and discriminate those who are gay.

    1. In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.
A homosexual is presented as someone who is shun from his community and family. It shows the discrimination that a homosexual feels even by his own family members. It shows the hard life homosexuals go through and experience daily and how they're abused for who they are.

    2. What key statements or phrases in the lyrics would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals. Write at least 5.

    3. How then should homosexuals be properly treated. Give at least three concrete examples.
    1. They should be treated with respect because they are still people. They are the same as us and it's wrong to think that just because we don't like the same gender we are allowed to mistreat them.
    2. Their rights should also be respected. Whatever rights a heterosexual has should be the same as the homosexual's.
    3. They shouldn't be abused, bullied or beaten. We should accept, understand and be kind to them.

    4. Love wins case in the US Supreme Court. Give your opinion.
I think that it is a great step towards to equality between heterosexuals and homosexuals. This respects homosexuals' right to marry whomever they choose. It truly is a win since it allows everyone to love and marry from either of the two genders.

    5. Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals".
I was honestly appalled by the article. I couldn't believe what these people were doing to the homosexuals. It's horrible to think that people are being buried under walls as punishment for being attracted to the same sex. It isn't right and it's not respecting the rights of the homosexuals. They face so much discrimination and oppression for something they can't change and it saddens me to hear this news.

    6. Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines. Give your reaction.
It is not a disease or sickness, it is a kind of sexuality wherein one is attracted to the same sex. To say that homosexuality is a disease only adds up to the hate homosexuals feel everyday. It's a misunderstanding that it's a disease. Disease means that there's a health defect, but being a homosexual is definitely not a defect. There's nothing wrong with gay people, they're still people and they're not going to "infect" you with their "gayness."

    7. Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.
Nowadays, western and asian countries have become more accepting of homosexuals. The USA's supreme court has legalized Gay Marriage and a lot of asians have been coming out lately. People now treat them like how they would want to be treated. Of course, there'll always be those people who discriminate and hate on homosexuals, but the government has been very supportive of them.

    1. The Sirena music video shows how homosexuals are being beaten up because of their preferred gender. They are treated horribly and they do not get equal or fair treatment from judgemental members of society or even their own parents.

    2.

    3. We must treat homosexuals the same way we treat heterosexuals. They shouldn’t be abused because of the way they act/speak/look, etc. They are humans too. They should be able to voice out their opinions and receive equal rights as other people regardless of their gender.

    4. I am happy that the LGBT community has been given justice, after how many years. The US Supreme Court made a good decision on this and I believe that other countries should follow them and do this too. When we put a stop to sexual discrimination and advocate gender equality, the world will definitely be a better place to live in and would become more peaceful.

    5. While I was reading the article, I couldn’t help but feel bad about the homosexuals in the Islamic countries. It seems like that homosexuals there are being treated like a wild animal. They do not deserve to be abused; no one should be treated like that at all. It makes me sad that instead of loving one another, we hurt each other, and pull them down. What the Islams did was pure injustice.

    6. Homosexuality is definitely not a disease or sickness. This Civil Code of the Philippines makes me mad because from what I know, a disease is something that makes you weak or causes you to die. Being gay, lesbian, transgender, etc. does not make you weak or less as a person but instead, it makes you even stronger. Just because you fall in love with a person of the same gender, it doesn't automatically mean that you have a mental illness already. It really disgusts me that some people think this way.

    7. Western and Asian countries treat homosexuals differently from each other. Western countries accept same sex couples and allow same sex marriage. They advocate gender equality. While, Asian countries are not as accepting since they treat homosexuals in a harsh way by inflicting pain or even killing them.

  15. 1) Homosexual is presented as something that a Filipino should be ashamed of. But as the music video progresses, it shows how we should learn to accept everyone and how anyone can be successful no matter what race, gender and sexuality.

    2) Hanggang sa naging binata na ako
Teka muna mali, dalaga na pala 'to

It shows that homosexuals and how people believe they do not belong in our society.

    3) They should be treated just like any other person you meet. Even if they have differences, one should not already have a mindset that you should be hating on someone just because he or she is different. We should treat each other equally.

    4) I think that this is the right thing. Especially for a country like the United States who really are racist and judgmental. We should learn to accept one for who he or she really is.

    5) Its unfair. Its unfair in the sense that homosexuality is being seen as a negative thing and something that the world does not need.

    6) To be honest, I really do not see the reason why this issue is a big thing. People should live their lives in security and without minding what others have to say.

    7) What Asians do, are cross dress and really show the public that God gave them the wrong body parts. While westerns are more secure with what they have and really do not cross dress. They just love someone of the same gender and not find it a necessity to show the public that what God gave them is wrong.

    1. In view of the MTV "Sirena" how is a homosexual presented by the interpreter who sung the song in the first person.
A homosexual is presented as a person who is neglected from society. He defined this as an abomination which is shown through the abrupt injustice spread towards him. In the status quo, he believes that this is the truth in the world of homosexuals which must be exposed.

    2. What key statements or phrases in the lyrics would attest how discriminating our culture is towards homosexuals. Write at least 5.
Ako'y isang sirena kahit anong sabihin nila
This statement says how the singer believes he is still a mermaid no matter what they say which we could conclude that they are bringing something negative up.
Here, we find that homosexuals find abuse everywhere; even in their own homes.
Drum na may tubig ang sinisisid
In this, we are given a clear example of how homosexuals are bullied.
Akong paluin ng tubo kahit kinakalawang
We find that homosexuals are being treated with corporal punishment due to their mere existence.
The homosexual in this scenario is begging his father to stop abusing him.

    3. How then should homosexuals be properly treated. Give at least three concrete examples.
Homosexuals should be treated with respect. We must be able to view them as one of our own by allowing them to participate in the activities we undergo. They should also be given equal rights by instilling the law in upholding equality for all its constituents. Moreover, they should be loved as how Jesus loved the sinners.

    4. Love wins case in the US Supreme Court. Give your opinion.
I believe that this case shows the empowerment of God's teachings. We can see that in this scenario, love triumphs due to the fact that it is a gift from God. In my opinion, I agree with the result of the case since the existence of these sexualities should be treated fairly and with respect. They must be allowed to be integrated into society and we believe that times change. Whatever the bible wrote a very long time ago may not be true for today. Therefore, we must follow the teachings of the modern society and promote love in all matters.

    5. Give your opinion on the article "Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals".
I believe that their treatment is insane and morbid. There is no need to collapse a wall, whip, or torture them due to a mere clash of beliefs. I think that the Islams are the true sadists and sinners in this scenario. The homosexuals have sinned. However, it is no one's right to deliver the punishment but God's.

    6. Homosexuality is a disease or a sickness according to the amended Civil Code of the Philippines. Give your reaction.
Although this may be true, I do not agree with the way it was phrased. I believe that the chosen words are too superlative for the definition. Homosexuality is just as evil as premarital sex and the truth is it's bad for the religion but modern society may beg to differ since the world when the bible was made was a very long tine ago and as I have said before, times change.

    7. Compare and contrast: Western countries and Asian countries as to treatment of homosexuality.
Western countries are more open-minded in their thinking. Therefore, they are more welcoming towards these new sexualities. In contrary, Asian countries believe that their beliefs remain superior to the status quo. Therefore, they are not as welcoming.

    3. Homosexuals should still be treated normally since they are still humans and there is nothing wrong with being homosexual. We should not discriminate them, we should respect them, and we should accept them in out society

    4. In the United States, they are now accepted and I am happy now that they can live their lives without hiding anything.

5.I am very much against the way the islams think since the homosexuals should not be discriminated.

6.I do not believe that being homosexual is a sickness. The thought of that is wrong alone and is very disrespectful.

7.In the western areas, Homosexuals are treated less harsh since most of them do not have religions. Most of the Eastern Areas have religions and it states in some of their passages that are against same sex marriages and it states that a man should only love a woman. That is the reason why they are being discriminated more here.

    5. Islamic Treatment of Homosexuals shouldn't be practiced because people shouldn't go through this kind of suffering, harassment, and bullying.

    3. Homosexuals should be treated with respect. We can do this by simply helping them, not physically and emotionally hurting them and by treating them as we treat others.
    4. I am indifferent to the matter. I am neither for it nor against it. I believe that homosexuals can be together but I am against the fact that they commit the act of sodomy.
    5. The reaction of the Islam people towards homosexuals is too much. They are people too and they should be treated as such.
    6. Becoming a homosexual is not a sickness nor a disease. People have their own food preference, color preference, clothing preference, so why can't their be sexual preference?

For me, how both countries treat the homosexuals don't make a difference because it affects their well-being physically and most importantly, emotionally. Even though the western countries are more open about it, at some point, there are still people from their countries that mistreat the homosexuals. There are people from the lgbt community that end up inflicting pain in themselves because they start to believe all the negativity that others tell them about their sexuality.
