FREEDOM AND CONSCIENCE

Maggie Mariano JG

1. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) aims to support sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. To this day, there are 21 members in its organization—economies who engage with one another’s economic entities and issues. This organization aims to the further development of our economy and to all the economies in the Asia-Pacific region; this means creating a better living and working environment for all its citizens, allowing accessibility of resources to all social classes [social mobility], and paving a better future for generations to come. This is how the APEC contributes to the important aspects of our lives as they look at our economies as one. 2. As a Lasallian, the core values are heavily stressed in order to shape us into the kind of citizen we are in the country. I learned that our country can actually improve, that we can make out economy better even. We need a good leader and people willing to change our economy for the future generations, because right now we aren’t the greatest amongst other countries. Once upon a time, the Philippines was wealthier than Japan, and I believe we can reach that again. APEC opened a lot of opportunities for our country by partnering with other countries. We are in the time frame where war is not an option for any of the countries their leader came during the week. The event showed clean roads, and safe streets. I believe we lack interest in living in a better place because we’re so used and contented with our country now, when we treat our environment so poorly it’s such a sad scenario. We can achieve being a better economy, but it starts with a good leader. For years, we call our government corrupt when we elected those people. I think we need to start seeing what is right for everyone on APEC CHALLENGES, VIS-A-VIS; FREEDOM AND CONSCIENCE (Term 2)

1.The APEC summit held during November 16-20 in manila brought about many benefits as the leaders of numerous countries were able to come up with many solutions to the problems of each of these countries and greatly affected the economies of the participating countries. I learned that through working with different people we as people can achieve more through because cooperation and teamwork is the key to success. 2.A problem that is relevant to me that was discussed during the APEC summit would be the lack of electricity because we filipinos are very dependent on electricity and if we were to have a lack of it then it would prove to be hard to do our normal everyday tasks. This made me realize that the government should put more effort into helping the provinces and etc. being affected by the lack of electricity in order for us Filipinos to advance as a country. 3.This challenge affects me personally because me being a concerned Filipino citizen would want the best for my country on APEC CHALLENGES, VIS-A-VIS; FREEDOM AND CONSCIENCE (Term 2)

1.The 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) was held in the Philippines on November 18-19. It's goal is to discuss the current issues happening around the world and to try to plan on how to solve these issues for we must think that we are one economy. This is also for the future of the whole economy. It was a successful meeting although outside the meeting, there had been a lot of problems like traffic, protesters, treatment of the homeless and many more. The traffic was very awful as the government made a route wherein the APEC leaders can easily pass. This made the Philippine commuters angry.A woman had to give birth in the road because of the heavy traffic.Protesters were more evident during this event. They were protesting about issues that must be talked about, protests about the traffic and many more. The most surprising problem was the treating of the homeless people. The Human Rights Watch relocated these homeless people so they stay out of the on APEC CHALLENGES, VIS-A-VIS; FREEDOM AND CONSCIENCE (Term 2)

APEC being hosted in our country means that other government officials from foreign countries trust us Filipinos even though Philippines hasn't really fully developed economically or financially. They came here to find ways on developing and discussing different societal issues around the world. Whatever they have discussed, they will try their best to fulfill what they aim to achieve. This APEC event has also taught me that it doesn't matter what country you're from or what religion you are, we all help each other and cooperate for the betterment of the future. A huge issue here in the Philippines which affects me is the lack of proper care to each filipino in certain parts of the country. Some filipinos strive for such low salary a month and don't get the proper treatment they need to live their lives everyday. Some Filipinos even don't have enough food or shelter. With the number of leaders that came to our country during APEC, they were able to discuss many important problems happening around the world. They were able to speak with some parts of the community, and answer the problems these people were facing. This is very important, because with this opportunity given to our country, this will create a big development, making our country more stable than usual. 2. The leaders went to our country for they believe our country is safe and their meetings will go undisturbed. This strengthens our relationship with other countries and having more allies is necessary for a small and weak country like ours. They will be able to help us in various ways including our economy problem. 2. The problem that I am worrying about right now is about the typhoons and the incoming "big one" that can happen anytime. As a lassalian it is important to be aware about situations such as these. The other countries can support and help us but if the government has no plan to help us in the first place, nothing will happen. 3. The recent APEC week made me realize quite a number of problems our country encounters. This is surely being resolved by our government and our allied countries. The APEC week helped the Filipino people refresh their minds and remind them that if we work really hard, it will be worth it in the end. It was a good thing that our country was the host for the conference this year because the people of our country started to understand better that many countries are willing to help us grow and develop economically. One of the problems mentioned during the APEC summit was the terrorist attacks. This issue really puts a great impact on me because I don’t understand why do people have to kill one another? A problem that greatly affected the Filipinos in Manila primarily was the closing of the roads. I do believe that it is important to welcome the APEC leaders, but I do not agree with the fact that the government had to make us suffer through the traffic. Most of us would spend almost 4-6 hours in traffic because they closed several roads in order for the APEC leaders to use the "better" roads or the "shortcut". These greatly affect and are very important to our lives as people of Earth, as we need to know these issues and find ways to help our world by working together as people of God. One very relevant issue stated is Climate Change. This affects not only our generation, but also all those that will follow. This issue may greatly harm the world and make life uncomfortable and the world inhabitable. We as Lasallians must be aware of these issues that affect us now and in the future. This will help us because we will be able to lessen poverty Something that I think that needs to be addressed is that electricity shortage that some places in the Philippines are experiencing, some places even don't have light where they live. We everyday use electricity and some say it would be hard to live without it, especially now as a junior student in zobel we are under the Pearl Program and learning for us requires electricity and wifi. Every opinion or comments from the different presidents are actually very important because those suggestions may be a way to solve some problems in our country. Poverty, this issue may have been long overdue because no matter how they try to fix this problem, it's seems that it only gets worse. We know that there are a lot of less fortunate people in our country, so why not do something about it? I have learned several topics, all ranging from crucial to simpleton conflicts. The Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) exposed the Philippines to different opportunities provided by other countries, and vice versa. With us hosting this global event, we are made economically accessible to the neighboring countries. Provided their attendance, I have noticed the concern they express to our country in terms of economy, as a physical definition. We are rising in title, not in calibre. Where do I begin. Corruption is the obvious answer. Other roots of rising issues include drug trafficking, electricity, poverty, unemployment, and it goes on.. I am not saying that this is a problematic country, but I am just saying that the way our country "handles" problems, just seems to be limited to show. All we change are numbers, and statistics. We should show love and care for one another because it shows that we are helping each other. A problem that we are facing in the Philippines is lack of supply of electricity. There is a solution to that was just invented is a lamp that can convert sea water into electricity. This will really help people This can affect my personality since the problems are not being addressed by the government then our country will not be successful because we are not helping each other to be successful in life. Also it will really be hard for filipinos to be successful because of the government. Since the government is really corrupt Basic concepts of freedom can be applied in the view of on APEC CHALLENGES, VIS-A-VIS; FREEDOM AND CONSCIENCE (Term 2)

1. Discuss what you have learned from the recent APEC hosted by our country. Discuss its significance, rationale, impact and effect not only to our economy but to the other equally important aspects of our lives. I learned that officials from other countries visited Philippines. This is a good thing because it promotes unity and solidarity among countries that are part of this meeting 2. Cite concrete problems, issues or challenges (ex. Climate change by Pres. Obama, etc) which are relevant to you, both as a Lasallian Junior Student and as a teenager citizen of the Philippines. One issue they discussed was about poverty. This is a problem that is still currently being faced by the country 3. How can these challenges affect you personally now and in the future if not addressed properly by our government leaders? Elaborate your answer. If its not addressed properly, I think this will affect a lot of people including my generation. There is still a chance to solve on APEC CHALLENGES, VIS-A-VIS; FREEDOM AND CONSCIENCE (Term 2)

1. The things I learned from the recent APEC is that we were able to make new connections with different leaders all around the world and have partnered with them to make our country and the world a better place to live in. It is very significant because like what I said a while ago, this can help not only our country but the world become one and have peaceful place to live in. 2. I think climate change is one of the biggest problems we are facing here in the Philippines because the constant amount of typhoons hitting the Philippines are destroying our country damaging and destroying house, crops, and many more. 3. These challenges will personally affect us negatively because these things will affect our very own lifestyle and some may not be able adjust quickly and may have a hard time living. If this problem is not being addressed properly then who knows what going to happen in the future. 4. During the APEC week, I think that the leaders are using their freedom to help us on APEC CHALLENGES, VIS-A-VIS; FREEDOM AND CONSCIENCE (Term 2)

The APEC held in the Philippines was for me a huge step forward into becoming a better country because after APEC, We secured more business partners and we will have more job opportunities which will be good news for a lot of Filipinos. I think that Poverty is the biggest problem in our country because more than 50% of Filipinos are in Poverty and it is seriously affecting our chances of becoming a big and successful country.
