Meneses, Gavin, JD
I've learned that this APEC meeting
was significant since, apart from the economic effect it will have for the
members, but also because this is only the second time the Philippines hosted
such a summit since the 90's. A lot of people took this opportunity to stage
protests against China's claims in the South China Sea, what they claimed to be
U.S. Imperialism, and APEC in general. Motorists also complained because of the
closure of roads in Manila. Flights were also cancelled, and Philippine
Airlines, and Cebu Pacific stated that they lost millions due to these
cancellations. Barack Obama cited climate change as one of the major problems
in the Philippines, but the main problem is the ISIS and the recent attacks in
France, which has become a hot topic. All the economic leaders assured that
they are strongly against terrorism, and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev
hinted at a "joint answer" to ISIS, which I think is important due to
the atrocities being on APEC CHALLENGES, VIS-A-VIS; FREEDOM AND CONSCIENCE
