JUNIOR-E 1ST SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION PAPER

January 24, 2016 Sunday Gospel                       Lk 1:1-4;4:14-21

Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the events
that have been fulfilled among us,
just as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning
and ministers of the word have handed them down to us,
I too have decided,
after investigating everything accurately anew,
to write it down in an orderly sequence for you,
most excellent Theophilus,
so that you may realize the certainty of the teachings
you have received.

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit,
and news of him spread throughout the whole region.
He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.

He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to his custom
into the synagogue on the sabbath day.
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them,
“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”

    ENLIGHTEN & INSPIRE

In this gospel given to us from Luke, it talks about how Jesus is still able to spread the word of God wherever he goes. It showcases how he believes and trusts in the Lord that He will always guide him through his journey of spreading the word of God and in fulfilling God’s mission. Through this, he is able to know what to do and that is what he gives on to the people of each town. Even though, he lives in a small hometown and is merely a son of a carpenter; he does not take that as an excuse from enlightening people to have a stronger faith in our Lord.

I personally admire the message of this particular gospel this week since it is something that all Catholics can take upon in their everyday lives. It reminds us that we are here on this Earth to be able to apprise to people who our God is and fulfill our missions as soldiers of Christ. A great comparison can be shown from us and from Christ since even He, as the Son of God, is not even exempted in spreading the mission and message of God to our fellow brothers and sisters. It can even be observed that Jesus is aware that he knew what his purpose here on Earth was and through that, he was able to enlighten a lot of people. Another point that is also evident in this gospel is that your faith and the amount of work that you do for our God is not based on your social class in society since earlier I mentioned that, even Jesus who was merely a son of a carpenter was able to inspire thousands and thousands of people to be able to believe and trust in our God.

Through this gospel, I can say that we should be more willing to spread and fulfill the word of God in our everyday lives and not only when we remember to do so. We should remember that this is the mere fact on why God put us on this Earth and why he sent is only son to walk on this land with us and that is to inspire and enlighten more people to have faith in Him. Lastly, I believe that the message of this gospel is something that we should really reflect and take on as Catholics.

    Spread the Good News!

This gospel acts as an overture to Jesus' ministry and how Luke entails through these passages an introduction to how empowering Jesus can be simply because he is powered by the Holy Spirit. Most importantly, it tells of how he continues to spread the Good News across nations and how he continues to preach amidst challenges. To me, I believe that this is a lesson we should all know and follow by heart.

During the chunk of this gospel, with the part where he tells of the people in the synagogue that the Spirit of the Lord is with him, I felt deeply moved as he proclaims how he stands strong with the power of the Holy Spirit and how he has been brought to this world to free us all from our wrongdoings. He goes on to say that he has been anointed to recover sight to the blind, free captives from their prisons, etc-This further exemplifies his determination and will to be the bearer of God's name and word to all of us living here on Earth. He has been brought down by God in order to right humankind's wrong and to reach out to the poor and marginalized sectors of our society. While he does such acts, not only does he come to rid people of their miseries, but he comes to teach people to do and follow what is right. It is his aim to serve and love for God and he wishes all of Galilee to do the same. In reflection, I believe that this was the core message exhibited by this very gospel: that no matter who we are, we are all brought together for a purpose, and that purpose is to spread the Good News and to become empowered by the Holy Spirit in committing acts that further strengthens us in spirit. In real life there come judgments and prejudices from people of many kinds, and that's what makes the whole world divided, but with people who have the initiative to make a move, these people are certainly commendable with their act. People who join in outreaches and community groups that express their concern and help to oppressed members of society, just like how we Lasallians do, is one way to exercise the focal theme of this gospel. Truly, it is an act that must be practiced and done with heart and that we show our utmost sense of change for the better.

This gospel aims to inspire people of today to continue bringing God's works into our everyday lives. It serves as a calling to stop doing and thinking what is wrong and instead work together on what is right and good for all. Like Jesus, let us all be empowered by the Holy Spirit and gain the initiative to spread love and righteousness to communities that are deprived of such necessities today.

“Words Are Meant to Be Shared”

We live in a world where our everyday lives are always posted in social media. We keep posting and spreading what is happening in our lives and to all of us this has become a norm, a norm which actually is not healthy. This is related to the gospel because the gospel talks about spreading God’s word but in today’s word we spread pictures of our food, where we are, etc, and to God this does not matter what we should really be sharing to the world is His word to all of us.

Jesus was sent here to our world because our ancestors were pretty stubborn when it comes to following God’s law. Jesus mission was to spread his Father’s word and He did this with the help of his disciples. When Jesus died He transferred this mission to spread God’s word to us, His disciples. I believe that we should follow this mission, for I know we were created for that sole purpose to be stewards and messengers of Christ. One real life experience I can give you of fulfilling that mission to spread God’s word is what Sir Cloyd is making us do every CL time which I believe is a big step in teach Lasallians how to fulfill His mission. Instead of the normal gospel reading plus teacher greet before CL starts, sir Cloys has asked us to share or give a brief homily in conjunction with the Gospel read. This is a very very good practice since we are already sharing God’s word and it comes out straight from our hearts.

We are merely messengers and stewards of this world but we will be rewarded when Jesus Christ comes again that is why starting now we should be spreading His word so others will start doing the same and the world will be a batter place because God’s words is dwelling in all of us. Spread God’s word in as simple ways as you can is what the gospel right now wants to tell us. No matter how big or small step you take in fulfilling your mission of being a prophet that is already a big thing for God. Words are meant to be shared most importantly, God’s word.

    "Jesus is our Light"
The gospel according to Luke talks about Jesus proclaiming God's word to the people. In the gospel, Jesus was handed a scroll that talked about how Jesus healed people physically and spiritually. He also states that the certain scripture that he has read has been fulfilled. Jesus is our Lord and savior and yet He remained humble and had complete trust in the Lord. No matter how many trials and difficulties Jesus goes through, he would still obey God. The fact that Jesus isn't even proclaiming God's word for himself makes him even more humble because he knows that when we hear about God's teachings, we will be able to reach salvation.

This gospel showed me that as humans, we must remain humble no matter what. We must also have strong faith in the Lord in order for us to reach salvation. I believe we must follow Jesus's footsteps and proclaim the good news. We must also remain faithful to our God. Nowadays, people pray once or twice a day. Some people even just pray only when they need God not when they want to thank Him. In the generation today, people are blinded by material things and forget what really is important. We must keep in mind that we have a job to do which is to spread the word our God and help those who are blind regain sight of what is important. One real life example is the evangelical missions my church does. In these missions, we proclaim God's word and spread the good news. We open the minds and hearts these people and preach what Jesus taught us.

In conclusion, we must always remember to put God first no matter what we're doing. We should never neglect his teachings. This gospel tells us to open our minds and hearts when we listen to His teachings. Through this, not only will we feel God's holy presence within us but we will be able to spread the goodness.

    Year Acceptable to the Lord

In this Gospel, it tells us the truth about how Jesus Christ really lived his life; from his life, to teaching, to his death and resurrection. He came down on Earth in human form to get involved with His people. He wanted to create a union between God and His people. Needless to say, not all of them were blessed with everything they need. Why? So that we can learn to humble ourselves and reach out to Him, but not just when we need Him. Sometimes, what we need are not physical materials but rather, his grace and mercy. Christ is so generous that even if we are imperfect, he still gives and provides for us. As mentioned in the Gospel, “He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.” We do not have all the time in this world to prove that we deserve to have Him in our life, neither do have all the time to keep in contact with Him.

Jesus finds so many ways to speak us even without us knowing. Through the sacraments, the Scriptures, and even the hardships we encounter in life, Jesus is seeking out to us because He wants to know that He is just there for us. There was a point in my life where I needed a miracle because time was very rough, I did not know whom to turn to. When I scrolled down on my phone’s notification center, I saw the bible passage of the day and it said “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.” (Jeremiah 29:13-14) This passage helped me get by and overcome what I was dealing with

We should be thankful that the Lord became man because it deepened our relationship with Him. He invites us to follow Him and He’s just waiting for us to accept it. We should attempt to discover him more as each day passes by.

    Being Like Jesus

The Catholic faith is one which is often taken for granted, and the practice of Christian beliefs is slowly fading. Even as followers of Christ, we often forget to thank and praise Him, as well as spread His Good News. The Gospel of Luke reminds us that not only must we know the Scripture, but we must also live it out. We must carry out what we learn in the Eucharistic celebrations which we attend, because once we do this, we will be inspiring others as well as rekindling their faith in the Lord. In the Gospel, we are also reminded of Jesus' power and authority. However, even with all his might, he still chooses to help those who are less fortunate than him. This reading is also a beautiful one due to the fact that Jesus acknowledges that he is the Anointed One, yet he still devotes his entire being into being a servant to others.

There must have been times wherein we were ashamed of ourselves, may it be because of physical appearances, race, religion, and the like. However, Jesus reminds us, not only in this Gospel but also in other Scriptures, to be proud of who we are since we are made in God's image and likeness. The Gospel according to Luke tells to always be like our Christ, because he is the epitome of all that is good, just like his Father. Once we act like him, we will attain true happiness. Being like Jesus — being proud of our faith, preaching His Word everywhere without shame, and being of help to others — is what Christianity is all about. Being like Jesus is also what the Gospel is about. The evangelist, Luke, tries to convey his message that we can be even better followers of Christ when we live out the Good News, and when we take it to heart so that our relationship with the Lord may also grow deeper.

In short, the Gospel showed us that Jesus was not afraid to go around and spread the Good News, and as his disciples, we should follow his footsteps as well. This reading also imparts the message which tells us to be proud of our faith regardless of what others may think of it and regardless of the persecutions we may or may not receive.

    “An inspiration to others”

In this reading, it has been shown that Jesus can spread the word of the Lord whenever and wherever he may be. He continues to do what God has sent Him to do, regardless of any circumstance. Jesus has been sent onto this earth by the Lord to bring glad tidings, proclaim liberty, and to heal those who are in desperate need; and in this gospel, we see that it is exactly what He’s willing to do.

For me, this gospel serves as an inspiration to not only catholics, but to everyone who reads it. It teaches us to spread the word of the Lord just like how Jesus did. Jesus has shown us that the Holy Spirit will always be present in each and everyone one of us, which enables us to share the good news unto others. The gospel reading reminds me that God put us into this word for a reason, of which we should use for the benefit of not only ourselves, but for others as well. Even when we do simple and small acts of kindness, such as informing others about the word of God, is a way of showing how we, christians, are people that God has sent to spread what he wants everyone to become. Spreading the word of the Lord has always been something that Jesus has been known for, and we should be just like Him by doing the same.

In summary, Jesus made sure to do what God sent Him to do, and through that, He was able to help, inspire, enlighten, and even touch hearts of a lot of people. Through reading this gospel, I believe that we should be just like Jesus because like him, God put us into this world for a reason, so we should be wise and use that reason for good intentions, one of which is to spread the word of the Lord just like how Jesus did.

"The Word is fulfilled in your hearing"

In this passage, it shows Jesus spreading the Word of God to the people. He does as God had sent him down to do, spreading the Good News to those who would listen. He does this even as he is scorned, trying his very best to see that everyone comes to love God as He loves them.

For me, this gospel is a reminder that Jesus, first and foremost, was a messenger. His healings and miracles were only a means to an end. And that end was to spread the glory of God. Everything he did was to make sure that everyone knew and loved God. Reading this passage makes our role apparent. We were put on this earth to be like Jesus. If we want to be like Jesus, we must step into his shoes and do what he did: spread the word of God through practice. His role as messenger was not appreciated by some people, and if we were to take up his role, we would encounter the same resistance. But even so, we must persevere as He did and proclaim the word of God so that all can know the love of the Lord.

To sum it all up, Jesus was a messenger, as was the role given to him by the Father. He fought on through all the hardship to ensure that all would know the name and glory of God, and we must be like that as well. Though it will be difficult, God has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us down the right path and give us the strength to persevere, just as Jesus did.

"Faith is the key to everlasting life"

Based on the gospel that of Luke, it tells us that no matter what happens Jesus is still able to spread the word of the Lord. Jesus always believes that he is always guided by God in his journey in spreading the word of God. He gets to inspire people with the word of the Lord to be like him and to follow God's words.

Personally, this gospel inspired me to be a better person spiritually and in faith. It teaches me that the word of the Lord is something that we should value because these are teachings that help us to be successful in life. It reminds us that we should follow what Jesus did because even if he wasn't that wealthy, he still managed to spread the word of the Lord because what matters most is our faith to him. Money will not last forever but our faith to God is what will matter the most. When we die, we will not bring our money or any of our valuable things. The only thing that we will bring is the memories or the things that we did while we were still on earth. It really inspired me to do the same because we must learn how to spread the word of the Lord so that we can help people or motivate them to do good and to have faith because God i our creator and we should value him more than other things. Jesus knew that he was born to spread the word of the Lord and to inspire people to do the same like what he was doing before. God will never measure you in your social class in society but he will measure you on your faith and how faithful you are to him.

In this gospel, I learned that we shouldn't value valuable things just to be happy or to show people what you have. The most important thing is your faith to God because when you have this, this will be the greatest thing you can show to the people and this will be the greatest things you can do to inspire people. Also, I learned that spreading the word of God is something that I should start doing because God placed us all on earth for one reason and that is to spread the word of God to inspire people to do good and to avoid evil. He is testing us in our faith and in the trials that we face, we should not lose faith because God is always with us no matter what like what is says on Joshua 1:9

  12. This gospel is shows Jesus taking the responsibility given by God to spread the good news of God which explains why we should listen to him and take these messages to our heart and our daily lives. It is seen that Jesus has full faith in God and as followers and children of God, we should follow him however, we often time neglect his love. He forgives us and guide us even though we are sinful beings. Because to him, we are his best creations. It shows how much he loves us therefore, we should be thankful.

In the passage, "Proclaim a year acceptable to the lord", this can be interpreted as change for oneself. A time to reflect on the things we've done and to do better. Based from what Jesus said, this is a sign that tells us that he is giving us another chance to be able to spark change to one another, to inspire and promote the good news of god. This gospel made me realize many realities in life which could be unappreciated such as the love of God. We take his love and mercy for granted and without us knowing, we are already distant from him. I learned to take into heart the little things such as going to mass and singing the songs, without caring on  peoples opinion of you, not judging people by their looks or problems, instead love them like your God.

In summary, God loves us and no matter what we do, we will always have a place inside his heart. So we should learn to love him as well. After reading this gospel, I'm motivated to be a better person, to inspire others and to show how much God has done for us. Dont let Jesus sacrifice be in vain.

  13. "We Hold the Key"
In today's world where we often overlook the sacrifice that was Jesus' death, reading about something like this really opens our eyes to the importance and greatness that is Jesus Christ. In the gospel we learn more about our savior through the eyes of Luke. Here, Luke talks about how Jesus spread the word of God and how he was able to preach his father's teachings to man.

The gospel is truly a demonstration by Jesus to us on how to be a proper steward of God. It also shows us how to properly spread word of God. To me, this is a great reminder of my ultimate role on this Earth to serve God and turn away from sin. It inspires me to be a better Christian and more fiercely share the word of God as Jesus does. I hope that more Gospels like this can be brought to light to better share the message that the word of God needs to be spread.

As a whole, the gospel is a reminder to us to better imitate Jesus' example and be better stewards to our Lord. It speaks of Lukes experience in watching Jesus preach and it serves to inspire me and others to idolize and imitate our God. More people need to read gospels like this because God wants us to be with him but we can't if they do need hear the word word of God from us.

In this gospel, we see Jesus reading to the people of the Synagogue on the Sabbath day a scripture from the prophet Isaiah. This scripture in particular talks about how God has sent Isaiah to spread His Word and to do good acts to all those he meets, so that they may remember and return to God's love. This can also apply to what Jesus is doing at that moment and in his future deeds as well, as He is spreading the Word of God and doing acts of compassion to those He meets as well.

I think what we can learn from this Gospel is the drive and spirit to spread of the Word of God, whether it is by teaching others His Word, for example, being a speaker in mass or showing and applying Bible verses to what we do in our everyday lives, or by following in Jesus' footsteps, which do not necessarily have to be great miracles like helping someone regain their vision through just one touch, but rather through simple deeds like offering food to your friends or to the poor, helping them out when they are in trouble, etc. This is because we must read, understand and finally apply what we learn in the Gospel, so that we can become good Stewards of God. We must not let the teachings of the Gospel go on deaf ears.

In summary, we must strive to let others know of God's Word and teachings, and we must strive to become good Stewards of God so that others may learn to do so by example.

In the gospel, it shows that God entrusted Jesus to spread the gospel across the world. He wants us to listen to Him and follow Him so that we may find true peace in ourselves. Jesus spread the gospel so that we change our actions for the better of the world and those around us. Jesus wanted to teach what our Father wanted to tell our hearts and our minds.

When Jesus read the scripture, it wanted to show us that God wanted Him to be the one to follow his footsteps in spreading His word to everyone. It said that Jesus should heal the sick which could mean that those who are literally sick like thos who are blind, deaf and those who can have leprosy. However, this could also mean those who are hurt inside of them, those who have lost their loved ones and those who experienced different tragedies in their lives that might affect them in the future. It also said that Jesus is entrusted to bring good tidings to the poor which means that He should be able to touch the hearts of those in need of someone who will love them and care for them. Also this shows how Jesus sees everyone as equal and that also the poor should be happy as those who are rich who are happy in their lives too. Lastly is said to proclaim a year acceptable to the lord, this could mean that everyone should live according to the gospel and they should also spread the Word of God to everyone they come across. This wants to tells that everyone should have always a year full of love.

In conclusion, we should always live and fulfill the Word of God and spread the gospel across those around us. We should always try to follow His steps so that true peace will happen to everyone and this will make us all experience happiness in all aspects of our lives. So for me, we should live, fulfill and spread the word so that when the time comes everyone will have eternal life.

    FOLLOW JESUS

This gospel talks about how Jesus makes sure that he shares the good word to everyone whenever and wherever he goes. It shows how much he values and shows importance to the good word of God and how much he believes that everyone around him deserves the word of God and that they deserve his enlightenment.

This gospel taught me the importance of sharing the good word. As ordinary catholics, the least we can do is attend mass every Sunday and share the word of God. This will help us strengthen our faith and we can help our neighbours to be better people as well also strengthen their faith as well. Following Jesus’ footsteps wouldn’t only make you a better person, but it will make you closer to God and closer to his heart.

In conclusion, spreading his word is a complete must. This gospel opened my eyes on how important spreading the good word is and how it can help us in our everyday lives. But it’ll only take full effect when it is done through the heart and not cause you are told to do so.

Why The Lord Sacrificed His Son

In this understanding, it has been demonstrated that Jesus can get the message out of the Lord at whatever point and wherever he might be. He keeps on doing what God has sent Him to do, paying little heed to any situation. Jesus has been sent onto this world by the Lord to bring happy greetings, declare freedom, and to recuperate the individuals who are in urgent need; and in this gospel, we see that it is precisely what He's willing to do.

For me, this gospel serves as a motivation to catholics, as well as to everybody who understands it. It shows us to get the message out of the Lord simply like how Jesus did. Jesus has demonstrated to us that the Holy Spirit will dependably be available in each and everybody one of us, which empowers us to share the uplifting news unto others. The gospel perusing advises me that God place us into this word for a reason, of which we ought to use for the advantage of ourselves, as well as for others too. Notwithstanding when we do basic and little demonstrations of graciousness, for example, educating others about the expression of God, is a method for indicating how we, christians, are individuals that God has sent to spread what he needs everybody to turn into. Getting the message out of the Lord has dependably been something that Jesus has been known for, and we ought to be much the same as Him by doing likewise. This is like our school organizations. We Lasallian Youth Corps, Youth For Christ and Mission Youth. Their motivation is to spread the word of the Lord through Faith, Service and Communion. When I joined LSYC, I was truly overpowered with the exercises and how LSYC is truly like family to me. Every one of them are similar to my siblings and sisters. Joining these associations is one approach to get the message out of God.

In synopsis, Jesus made a point to do what God sent Him to do, and through that, He could, motivate, illuminate, and even touch hearts of many individuals. Through perusing this gospel, I trust that we ought to be much the same as Jesus since like him, God place us into this world for a reason, so we ought to be astute and utilize that purpose behind great expectations, one of which is to get the message out of the Lord simply like how Jesus did.

    “Our Duty in Gods Eyes”

In this Gospel, it shows how Jesus Christ is spreading the Word of God to the people. He continues to do what God has sent Him to do, no matter what. This shows how obedient and how dedicated Jesus is in order to fulfil what God sent Him here to do. Also, it has made me realize that we all are put here on earth to fulfil Gods plan for us.

After reading the Gospel, I realized that just like Jesus, we were put here on earth by God for a specific reason; each of us, with a different one. Jesus was sent here to spread the word of the Lord, and He has fulfilled this. We must follow the path of God in order to find our place on earth, and we must obey his will and follow his way. We must be like Jesus, and always follow what path God has paved for us no matter the circumstances.

In conclusion, we were all put here for a reason, we have a choice if we either want to stray away from the path of the Lord by letting go of your faith and giving in to the temptation of the devil and not follow the path that the Lord has decided for us, or you can continue to follow God’s path, holding onto your faith, following His plan, that will lead us to everlasting life. It is your choice. So what will you do?

"The Word Truly Has Become Flesh"

In this Gospel written by Luke, It shows that the word of God has truly come true. The Gospel speaks about the Spirit of the Lord roaming the earth. It shows how strong our faith in God must be since He can do anything for us, even give up His own son. It shows how His word is truly something we must not just share, but live as well.

This Gospel has really opened my eyes about our mission on earth, to spread His word and be and bring Christ to everyone we meet. Sometimes, we may need to go out of our way to be able to spread His word but i believe that it is more than worth it. I mean, God sacrificed His ONLY son to be able to do it, so why cant we just go a bit out of our way to do it? I believe that this Gospel is a call for us Christians and Catholics to do as Jesus did, to keep His word alive in this world. We may face some difficulties along the way, but these difficulties will never sum up to what Jesus encountered, He sacrificed his life for us.

In summary, I believe that as a Lasallian, we must follow our mission, "to be Lasallian achievers to God and country" to be able to follow our mission as Christ's followers on this world, to be able to spread God's word so that we may all be good stewards of the gift that god gave us, This earth.
