January 24, 2016 Sunday Gospel Lk 1:1-4;4:14-21
Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the events
that have been fulfilled among us,
just as those who were eyewitnesses from the beginning
and ministers of the word have handed them down to us,
I too have decided,
after investigating everything accurately anew,
to write it down in an orderly sequence for you,
most excellent Theophilus,
so that you may realize the certainty of the teachings
you have received.
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit,
and news of him spread throughout the whole region.
He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.
He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to his custom
into the synagogue on the sabbath day.
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them,
“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”

ReplyDeleteThis passage shows us that Jesus had a purpose in his life. His purpose in earth was to save us from sins and heal the sick.
This shows us that everyone has a purpose in life. Everyone should do something in life, like jesus he showed us that anyone could do something for the lord. Everyone should do something with purpose and faith in the lord because god gave us all a mission to do good.
I think that we should do our best in everything we do and everything we do is for the lord. If we do good things then we will achieve our goal.

DeleteThis Gospel speaks to me very clearly. Jesus unwrapping the scroll describes us putting our trust in God, it is describing that we are accepting what God wants us to do. We are accepting all of God's challenges. As jesus in the power of a spirit reads the scroll, it is saying that God is always within us and it is up to us to look for him. God is always there to guide us in doing whats right. But we always choose to do what we want and God wi always be there to help us make the better decisions. When the scroll says "bring good tidings to the poor" it is saying that God is within us through the good we should do. God is trying to send us a message that we should all, not just one, but all of us should help one another to bring glad tidings to not only the poor but to ourselves because i believe the gospel is telling us that we can find our true happiness through making the people around us happy. If we continue to help, donate, pray, we constantly make the people around us happy and through that we find our own happiness.

ReplyDeleteWhat does it mean to be fulfilled? How do we as a culture define it, or even as individuals? Most people I know are goal-oriented; they want a particular career or a particular job within that career. For some, fulfillment means a certain level of material security rather than a certain position at work. Family, friends, community are all measures of fulfillment as well, and for some, even hobbies get thrown into the mix.
Being fulfilled, for me is finding or achieving your lifelong goals while hardworking. It wouldn't be as fulfilling if you dont work for what you earn because you will not learn from it. It's like playing a sport. Where's the fun if theres no challenge? You need to train hard to get the sweetest feeling of victory because if you do not work hard for it, then it is simply dumb, blind luck.
As a conclusion, I realize that complete fulfillment in this world is a form of perfection. Perfection is not a status to be gained, but a goal for which to strive, knowing all along that we will fall short, far short. Material wealth, busy careers, obsessive hobbies, and a large social network of family and friends can fill most of that yearning most of the time, and some of those are blessings in and of themselves for which we should be very grateful. But they still do not provide the complete fulfillment for which we are built.

ReplyDeleteIn the gospel, Jesus is fulfilling his mission as God's son. This Passage shows how Jesus is fulfilling his mission, we as Christian followers of Christ should follow him. We are tasked to spread the good news of the Lord and be like him.
This gospel has taught me to be a better follower of Christ and spread his good word. As a Christian I am expected to be like Christ, though I may not be perfect like him I should do my best to make him proud of me and my accomplishments by doing good deeds to other. When we are selfless God smiles at us because he knows when we do things wholeheartedly and in my opinion this is something that should be an instinct to us as human beings. In times of trial we are expected to do the right thing not because there are consequences but because our morals will guide us to do the right thing. When we create goals that we plan to accomplish not just for us, God knows that we carrying out his mission. We should not only follow what we are tasked to do but we as Christians should also be God-fearing and thankful because without him we would not be where we are today. Another thing we should never forget is to be thankful for all that he has given us because we don’t truly deserve all that we have but because we are is children and he loves us he spoils us with love and material things.
In conclusion this gospel is a very important passage from the bible to help us realize and know our calling as his followers. We should do good acts wholeheartedly and always be generous to one another because it is what we believe is right. We should never plan against our brothers and sisters because we were out in this world to share love and his word and not to spread hate.

ReplyDeleteWe all have goals and aspirations even though we don’t see them yet. When we have no goals, it somehow makes us feel like we have no purpose in life, which is not a good feeling. It can make us feel lazy and unmotivated to do good when in reality, we should channel that negative energy into something productive. There is something that feels absolutely amazing when we finally fulfil a goal and influence others to do productive actions too.
From what I understood from this gospel, it gave a clear message on what Jesus’ goals were and what he did in order to achieve them. Personally, I’d like to believe that this scripture was written to help others be motivated to work for their goals just like Jesus Christ did - with hard work and genuine care. He did all that he could to spread the word of the Lord (our Father) to the general public wholeheartedly. As Christians, we are encouraged and expected to apply those teachings to our daily lives so that we can inspire others to be more Christ-like as well. We must focus on being the group of people who make others happy with our presence.
To be completely honest, I was quite confused when I first read this gospel. After reading it several times and reflecting, though, I was able to somehow find a clear connection and message from this gospel and relate it to real life. We are all born with a purpose just like Jesus Christ was. We all have goals and aspirations that may not be clear to us just yet, but with proper guidance and care, our path will unfold soon enough. It is just up to us to figure that out.

ReplyDeleteThis gospel is telling us that during the time that Jesus was here,he was given a mission and a task by God to spread the good news to everyone and proclaim his name so that we could be blessed, anointed, and forgiven. And in this gospel Jesus started fulfilling his mission by spreading the good news to everyone in the synagogue, and this is an example which we should follow because starting that day that the people heard the good news, the task or mission of Jesus automatically gets passed on to us which we fulfill by spreading and passing it on to others.
One of the main point of this gospel is fulfillment, fulfillment for me is being able to achieve and get the things we want through hard work.I believe that we don't get everything we want easily,we have to work for it no matter how hard things get because that is one of our true purposes in life which is "for us to earn something we must work hard and we must truly deserve it".But we mustn't only work for the things we want,we also have to work hard to be able to help and contribute to everyone around us just like what jesus did where he suffered and accepted all the painful things they did to him,not for his benefit but for the benefit of us being saved from our sins. For me the feeling of being able to get something and help someone because you worked hard and truly earned it is better than you getting something just because you want it and you are capable to get it without doing anything. And this is why I believe that fulfillment is basically working hard both for yourself and everyone around you which benefits everyone and at the same time gets you closer with God.
So in conclusion this gospel talks about fulfillment and how we should follow the steps of Jesus because one day these two things are the thing that would help us move forward,go on with our lives, and walk towards the right path.So the message of this gospel to us is the way to fulfill something and follow Jesus is by putting hard work before everything else and using hard work to help everyone around us.

"So that you may realize the certainty of the teachings you have received" Is how St Luke decides to teach the word of the Lord in his own words. It shows his clear goal to show as much detail as he could in the studies of Christ. In a way to clarify everything that Jesus said, probably in his own words. St Luke shows us how Jesus directly let every know that he was indeed the chosen one of God.
Its sections of the Bible like these that truly point out some things we miss in life, it shows how Jesus was perfect, even in human form. He was showing in a way how he was going to save everyone, I think knowing what you have to do brings out the real goal determining factor all people should have. Jesus was someone who could be compared to the perfect example of perfection. Gospels like these just show how much Jesus so honest with his goal to save everyone. In my own life I find it difficult to believe in myself and that God is giving me strength, I am oblivious to the fact that free will is a factor. One time I expected God to show me a sign, without work at all, I didn't receive the sign and eventually waiting it out made things worse. Personally Jesus is an example of someone who should be honest and straight with themselves.
In summary, I think Jesus is a perfect role model for any human being, its truly impressive how this one man (and God) could be as wise with words as he was, he further shows his effort by giving us an example of inspiration and possibility, by just believing in oneself.
Goals
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a something to strive for in life and it takes people a while to reach it. Without a goal in life there would be no motivation to keep living in life. A goal can be created by focusing what a person really wants in life. Jesus had a goal in life just like people now have today.
Jesus was and is the messaih of all the people. He prophesized to be the savior from all of the people's suffering and or sin. He said in the passage that the scripture from Isaac has been fullfiled and he was right. That the sick would be healed, the poor be poor no more, and many other great tidings. He tells us that all of these have been fullfilled.
Jesus had a goal like every other random person on this planet. His goal was to save us from our sins. He has reached his goal by going through trials and pains. He proved that he is not just an almighty God but he also proved that he is also human. Goals are motivators to make become better in life. Our main goal is to be closer with Jesus Christ.

ReplyDeleteSome people search all over the world just to find love without ever realizing that it’s just right in front of them. God’ love for us is the definition of true love. He was there for us through thick or thin even though we pushed him away. He even sacrificed his only son just for us. From the gospel I learned that God communicates to us through different ways. For instance, during mass, while reading the bible, through a friend, a teacher and much more. We might not see him but He’s there we just have to listen carefully and keep an eye out cause He’s always trying to help us.
Life is filled with obstacles some harder than the rest. Sometimes these obstacles leads us to questioning everything even God. We start asking questions like “why is this happening to me?” During Camp Dauntless (YFC Camp) I learned that these things that our happening to us isn’t God’s fault. He loved us so much that he gave us free will. It us our own fault for abusing it. Even though we sin against Him, He still tries to help us in the end. Every time we are faced with an obstacle we should know that we’re not alone. God is holding us along the way. This was what happened to me before camp. I was feeling terrified of the future and I felt so alone. Camp changed me. There was this bible reading that stroke me. It felt like it was a message from God for me. It said “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. DO not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you g.”- Joshua 1:9
Never losing faith is a challenge but loving God means having faith in him. My friend once told me that love is a commitment. We should work on it every day. If we have doubts we should fight against it. We should never give up on God because he will never give up on us. My friend also told me that our job as Christians is to keep growing in faith. We should have it set in our minds that “today I would better than yesterday.” We can only keep growing in faith if we listen to Him and follow him.

ReplyDeleteThe gospel shows that we have a purpose from God and that we should preach the word of God so that everyone will be filled with God and His pressence. The Gospel also shows what Jesus did in Earth as the Son of Man.
The Gospel speaks about how we should fulfill our mission as followers of Christ. We were all put in this world to do our destiny which was given to us by God. As we do this then we are fulfilled. What is fulfillment? For me it is being able to do what you are assigned and after you will be fulfilled.
In conclusion, Jesus was also sent to Earth to do His mission which was to save the world and spread the Gospel. Jesus was a great preacher of Gods word and He also saved us from sin by dying on the cross. And as Christians we must follow the way of God by preaching the Gospel.

In the Gospel (Luke 1:1-4;4:14-21) it shows about Jesus' mission from God and how he fulfilled it and continues to fulfill it. That the spirit of God is in him, guiding him so that he may do the uphold the scriptures, the word of God. It shows how good and dedicated preacher Jesus was but also a good follower. As said somewhere by someone before "to be a good leader one must be a good follower" Just like Jesus being a follower but also being a Leader. A leader that preaches scriptures of God to the people so that they may follow.
Though is this really the message? When Jesus read the scriptures saying "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me..." He does not mean only him. He is talking about all of us. Some people think they are useless or some people think they have nothing to do but God has given us all a mission to Proclaim the word of the lord and uphold the scriptures. At times I myself feel worthless but then I remember all the times I helped others, doing and following the word of God. Then I thought to myself "if i wont live in this world for myself, I will live in the world for others". Basically what Im trying to say is that we were all here for a reason. We must and cannot turn away from it nor runaway from it because life is hard. We must trust in God for he is in us all and with him we can do anything.
In conclusion we must all be preachers to word of God and must follow them. We must influence others to do the same as Jesus did with his followers. We must Trust in God and not be afraid. And of course Love God with all your heart

ReplyDeleteFulfillment and Christ
During the time that Jesus was here he dedicated his life to helping those in need, not because he wanted something back nor did he do it for fame and glory, but, he did it because henknew it was right. He knew that God wanted to help those who were in need, to save those who were faithful and those who cried out his name asking for help. Many people go their entire loves trying to search for what they want to do, or rather what they are supposed to do and yet Jesus without any fear or hesitation dedicated his life to our God even through the oppression and scorn he recieved.
Jesus found fulfillment in serving the Lord and so should we. We were put on this earth to spread God's word. As such we should be fulfilled to do our duty and giving glory to our God. In this way we reach fulfillment through him as fulfillment for me means doing what we have been sent on this earth to do and for me that would be honoring the duty given to us. God sacrificed his only son for us so our sins would be forgiven so I feel that we should not squander this sacrifice by preaching the gospel when we can as this is the least we can do for him.In my personal experience I feel more fulfilled helping others than helping myself but at the cost of others. There is something about being able to put a smile on someone else's face that makes me happy as well.

ReplyDelete“Our Mission”
God place us in this world for many reasons. We were placed here to take care of his creations, to follow by His commands, and to share His word. We tend to forget this because we think that we should live to what would please us. We forget that everything we do should be for God. He made us in His likeness with a mission, but it seems as if we all have forgotten about it.
In the gospel, Jesus reads a scripture that talks about what God wanted him to do when He place him in this world. Jesus, like us, had a mission. The difference between us and Jesus is that Jesus actually fulfilled his duties. We have had so many opportunities to do what would’ve been considered morally right, but how many of us can actually say that we took all of those opportunities without a second thought?
It is not too late to change our ways for the Lord. We can still live in His name and do what He had asked. We must remember that we are here to fulfill the duties God appointed us with. We must remember that everything we do is for God’s glory, and it is never too late to start the change.

ReplyDelete"The Proclamation"
In the gospel that I have read it tells me that Jesus was sent to proclaim the teachings of God and those prophets who came before him. As Catholics we see Jesus mainly as a teacher/preacher. Everything that Jesus has said and done is sacred and is taken into record by people. The bible itself is the best evidence of Jesus' teachings and proclamations. The bible symbolizes the teachings from Jesus which we decided to keep.
Furthermore, Jesus encourages us to listen and hear. Jesus was put on earth in order for Him to fulfill his mission. Our mission is to listen to him and take note of his teachings. All that we learn from him must be known or written down. Jesus was put on earth for us to listen to and not to ignore. Though, hearing alone is not enough, we know Jesus wants us to apply we learned from Him and fulfill our mission and be servants of God.
In conclusion, every time we hear or read God's word in mass or in any other place we must always listen and hear. We may not see Jesus physically, but spiritually he is there. To ignore those who proclaim the teachings of Jesus is to ignore Jesus himself. Just like Jesus we all have a mission and that is to proclaim His teachings.

ReplyDelete"Nothing Like His Love"
As God sent His only son Jesus, He was tasked to share the word of God and lead the people to the right path. While He was sharing the Gospel, Jesus could see the people’s reaction. They kept looking at Jesus in great passion as if He was an angel. Jesus is also the one who continued God’s plan in earth. He had given the people hope and faith since He made them believe that they could repent for their sins. God has given Jesus the privilege to help those who are in need. As Jesus said to the people, “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” What God wants in return is that we should listen to His every word and follow the 10 commandments.
What Jesus is telling us in this Gospel is that we should always listen to the word of God. God made an effort to do these kinds of things because He loves us and He wanted us to be free from our sins. I also believe that God gave His trust to the people because He knows we can do great things and continue our mission which is spreading the good news to our surroundings. As Christians, i think we should make more plans to help and serve the people who needs help, fight for what is right and give justice to those who deserve it. Since God gave us a mission, we could use the word of God to be able to connect with the people and together we can strengthen our faith in Him.
This Gospel is basically God’s plan for us and the betterment of our world. As Lasallians, we should try to be more active in helping people like joining organizations or going to a charity. Furthermore, we should be appreciative and spreading love to others instead of hating or disliking them. We must continue our mission as Christians like Jesus. He gave us love and we should give that love in return.
"Devotedly Driven"
ReplyDeleteBY: KIM, Yo Han (JH)
Having a mission from God would mean nothing, without ones particular devotion to accomplishing it. Seeing myself entitled to living out as a devoted Catholic, only raises a particular question. WHY? It is well said, and known that God works in very mysterious ways, and that God has plans for everyone. There is a well known reason for mankind, and that is to live, eat, and die. Now God's mysterious works comes into place, wherein he gives us the gift of freedom. This adds to the equation of life. Every single action we do, leads to one thing and another. Before thinking about how things lead to this very moment, why not trace it back? Back when life was ruled by the one rule, which was to live. Back when one mans action was left unseen. Having no means of inspiration, no means of creativity, nothing. This gospel portrays, inspiration. It triggered a chain reaction of spiritually educating from one person to another, to having communities devoted to live by what one has been taught. That very small event, eventually lead to the moment where us students reflect on that very event.
Entering a classroom for the first time. This is somehow related to the Gospel, in terms of how I was exposed to the new learning environment. This new learning environment taught me how it is to achieve goals, and it also taught me what failure felt like. Back when i was still a child, everything I did was right. To simply summarize this experience, it has inspired me to finally open my doors to newer ideas. To better environments. People may influence me to to bad, but it is the experience that disciplines us.
We are never old to learn new things, and i have yet to age. We all do. By learning and by being inspired, we can accomplish great feats such as what Jesus has done. He exposed himself to the Holy mission from God, and fully submerged himself with the marginalized. After going through all these obstacles, he has truly become Man. Of course, with a divine essence. God has a plan for all of us. Having to live under God's presence, we live a life that is devotedly driven to be inspired, and inspire others.

The gospel talks about how jesus fulfilled his mission as Gods son. he was tasked to bring the good news to the poor , to cure the blind people, to make freedom to the captives and to let the oppressed go free. these are the things that jesus fulfilled as a Son of God.
As we all know most people have goals in life. they were doing what they can so that they can fulfill their dreams and to achieve their goals. hardwork, determination and by getting out to your comfort zone is the key to achieve our goals. fulfilling your dreams is one of the greatest things in life. fulfilling things can make a person be happy by simply, helping those who are need, by giving or donating money to the poor and by doing good things to others.
in conclusion , this gospel is very meaningful passage from the bible that helps us realize that fulfillment is not just for our own we can share it by serving others wholeheartedly, doing good things and by sharing our love to others.

The gospel of Luke opens with a narration of Jesus as he proclaims to the chief priests and scribes that he is the fulfillment of God's promise made through the prophet Isaiah. When reading this gospel, it makes known to me that God always has a reason for what he does. In our case, as human beings, he created us to be of service to one another. Just like what Jesus proclaimed in the gospel, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord." To me, this is a testament of God's plan for all of us, that we are all called to serve others in His name.
In my own perspective, the messages that the gospels share to us are simple to understand; however, it can be difficult to follow through with since we may not always be accustomed to doing big things. Sometimes, if you are new to something, it makes you feel nervous to try it just because it is different. I have such experiences with this feeling. Just recently, I joined Abot Lasalyano 2016, held at school last Jan 16. It was actually my first time to volunteer for an outreach outside of those we have every school year. I have had experiences of being with the less fortunate before, however, this was the first time I had volunteered to join an outreach. Normally, I am not one to join gatherings like this although I felt a calling in this one. I felt like I should be there to help. Thus, even though I felt nervous, I attended it. Being there, it felt like a very different experience. I helped the kids with making origami, feeding them snacks, and in the end, I made someone smile. The experience made me see God's plan for all of us and made me feel what it is to really serve. Personally, I feel that I still need to further develop my boundaries, since there are a lot of things I am not normally exposed to, but this experience helped me to understand more what it is to be there for others and to help. It was a new experience that connected my life to God's goal for all of us.
In conclusion, all of us are called by God to serve others. We simply need to be appreciative of our blessings and learn to consider those who are not as fortunate as us. We can start through simple actions such as giving money or food to the street beggars. A little action can go a long way. In their case, a simple act of kindness and generosity is enough to make them smile, because it reminds them that there is good in everyone. We can then do bigger things for them, such as giving them relief goods after a terrible typhoon or by visiting them in their neighborhood and spending time with them. The unifying main idea is really our life's goal on earth, and that is to make a difference. To do something that inspires good among others. All it takes is courage, humility, a good heart, and an inner sincerity to simply do what is right because in God's eyes, it is the best thing you can possibly imagine.

In the Gospel Jesus read a scroll that basically described what His mission was on Earth the first time he came, he ended His reading with “Today this scripture is fulfilled”. The entire time Jesus was on Earth he was working with one mission in mind, he was working so that he could save all of us from sin so that when we die we can join Him in Heaven.
This is like us, how when we have a mission or goal in mind we know we need to work hard for it. Knowing and believing that God is there for us and is there to help us will only get you half way there, the other half you need to work for. This can be related to the Gospel because it was already written what Jesus needed to do and what he was to become, what He had to do now was to work for it.
God already believes in us and know that we are capable of doing all things, all we need to do is believe in ourselves and work hard to accomplish our missions. Knowing that God has faith in you and believing that you can do all things with His grace will help so much in working for your mission.

The gospel is basically about Jesus' purpose given to Him. God sent Jesus down on Earth for Him to teach us about the Word of God. It was his duty to make us understand and learn more about God, so he went to the synagogue to share the word to everyone else during the sabbath for this is the day of the Lord. Jesus explains to them that He was a gift from God the father to heal them and open their eyes.
I believe it isn't only Jesus' mission to go around and spread the Word of God to everyone, it is also our vocation. God expects us to help in reaching out to people through His Word. Even if we don't have special powers to heal the sick, we can still be able to help people by teaching the word to others and opening their mind to understand more about God. I personally don't preach the Word to others in front of a public audience but there can be different ways of doing so, maybe like paying it forward.
In brief, sharing the word may help people in many different ways. They may not be able to see it yet, but eventually, it could impact someone's life in a good way. Realizing how fulfilling the Word of God may be can definitely teach us to learn and understand more about the teachings and scriptures and show us the right way. We shouldn't waste what God gave us by not sharing the scriptures and making Jesus' mission here on Earth fruitless and unproductive, we must let the word be passed from generation to generation.

The gospel tells us what Jesus' mission or purpose is, which is to save us from sin and give us the holy spirit that will guide us to God. God have given Jesus this mission because he loves and cares for us. He know that we, human beings, are not perfect and will make mistakes no matter what. Through Jesus, we are able to follow the path God wants us to take, despite our mistakes.
Last year, in my sophomore year, I was really stubborn as a leader in group works. I wouldn't trust my group members with so much tasks just because I didn't think they could do it or I thought that they mess it up. It got to the point where I was really struggling to finish work on time just because I was overloaded with so many tasks. From that experience, I learned no one could do everything alone. Just like in life, if you live your life alone, you're going to constantly struggle and fall to temptation. Eventually, you lose control of your life. However, if you trust yourself with God, he will give you strength and courage to be able to overcome these hardships and temptations. He will be the light that will guide you to the path that will take you to him.
Now, the gospel tells us to go and spread the good news to others. There will always be people who have not really accepted God into their lives. They may be people who are already struggling or have already fallen into temptations. However, it's never too late for God to save them. God will always be there for anyone to help them. Thus, it is important for us to spread the good news, since it not only expand the Christian community but it also helps others.

In my understanding, the gospel tells us that Jesus has goals he wants and intend to fulfill before he joins God. His goals were entrusted to him by God himself. Jesus was our savior and there is a reason why. He put his goals in front of everything else. He gave up comfortability, riches, materials, sleep, food, water, everything, just so that he can accomplish his goals. God gave him tasks to do because he trusted that Jesus would fulfill them no matter what.
I admire the gospel because it tells us that God didn't only trust Jesus with these tasks, but all of his children. It is our job to continue the teachings of the gospels. It doesn't end with Jesus. We must fulfill Jesus' main goal. And that goal is to be able to help everyone in the world with the teaching of our almighty lord, God. Us Holden must do everything in our power to inspire others to do good and to be like Jesus as much as we can. We must strive to be as pure and holy as our savior, Jesus Christ.
I realized after reading the gospel several times, that God didn't entrust Jesus to these tasks, but all of us. He gave us a job and he believes that we can fulfill it. All we need is perseverance, faith, and knowledge. We need to matter the struggles we will encounter down the road. We will need the faith because teaching something without believing it is pointless. Teaching the word of God without believing in it is worth absolutely nothing. Finally, we need knowledge because we knowledgable wig what we teach so that any questions that may cause doubt will be answered whole-heartedly and truthfully. That will surely destroy all the doubt that person is feeling.

ReplyDeleteEveryone has a mission to do while on this earth. A mission given from God himself for us while we are still living and breathing. He calls us to spread the word to the numerous people we meet each day. Jesus was no different from one of us. He wasn’t exempted by this mission. The gospel talks about how he will begin in fulfilling this mission God has sent him to do
There was a time in my life that everything became more of a routine. We do things everyday just for the sake of doing it, and without the passion of what it once used to be. This included my time for prayer. Slowly, it has become less and less to the point that I have almost always avoided it. Sundays were indeed rest days, which also meant rest from going to Church. It has come to that point in my life. I guess you can say that I haven’t been completely done my role as a Christian. However, unlike me, Jesus never had this predicament. He was fulfilling the mission that God sent out to him. In my understanding of the gospel, he went to accept his mission, even stating that the passage that he read has come true. By saying this, he fully accepted all the upcoming events that were about to unfold, yet he does what he knows what must be done.
Jesus is the role model of our Christian life. He is the icon of our religion, and is the person who we owe our lives to. Despite everything that happened to him, he has completed the mission God sent him to do. With that, we should complete our mission as well. As a Christian for God and country, we should have the faith and courage to further spread the Word, and become the fellow role models to the generations yet to come.

ReplyDelete"Purpose in Life"
ReplyDeleteThis gospel showed that Jesus had a mission and purpose in his life, which was to proclaim the word of God. He had his own way of proclaiming the gospel through miracles. In his time here on Earth, he was able to fulfill and accomplish his mission in this world.
As followers of Christ, we each have our own purpose for living in this world. We all have different talents and interests. We must use these skills given to us by God to live a life of proclamation and faith. We have our own ways to proclaim the gospel, which can be achieved by using our talents for the glory of God. In my own life, I feel that my purpose is to help society through science and mathematics. I feel that I need to make my contributions to mathematics significant for the development of society. This is because I was given this passion and talent in mathematics by God.
Whether we have a talent in science, music, sports or art, it is important to realize that we were brought into this world to help proclaim the word of God by helping society through our God-given talents. Our purpose in this world is to help each other achieve our full potentials as human beings so that we can live a life for thr glory of God.
Sunday Gospel Reflection: Hazel Toque JG CN:38
ReplyDeleteDo Everything in Love
Jesus dedicated his life into fulfilling his father's will. He went to every synagogue, preached and proclaimed the word of the Lord without any hesitation — that was his mission. Likewise, Luke was chosen to 'compile a narrative of the events' that Jesus and His people have fulfilled over the years. Simple deeds that we might have forgotten, gestures that inspired our fellow brothers and sisters — whatever it is, we have our own mission and we too, are part of Jesus' fulfillment of his own.
We may often refer to missions as something big, something heroic. Matthew 6:6: "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Let this passage remind you that every good deed you do, as long as you do out of pure and sincere love, God acknowledges it. "Today, this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing." The mere fact that we sacrifice one hour of time every Sunday to hear mass already accounts as part of our fulfillment. Today, we may find ourselves questioning about everything — our existence, purpose or what awaits us in the near future. We may feel lost and the path that's ahead of us may seem clouded with uncertainty, doubts and fears. Personally, I felt the same way too. It's inevitable but with God, these things will slowly uncover. Do your best to seek God and let Him lead you to the path that was once clouded.
Have courage, for this is the first step into finding and fulfilling our mission. Make God your foundation and do everything for His greater glory. Do everything in love.

ReplyDeleteThe Who, The What and The Why
ReplyDeletePublic speaking. Some are brilliant at this, while the majority are terrified about it. This gospel is quite historical, in the way that it was one of Jesus' first public sermons. Jesus is probably the best public speaker out there. He started his first public sermon with talking about who he is, what is his mission, and why is he doing this.
First of all, the root of what he talks about isn't about him. If you really dig through the gospel, it's all about God's plan FOR him and how God fulfilled his life through service. "The Spirit of the Lord is ON me because he has ANOINTED me...He has SENT me." In my opinion, we are losing the true essence of why we are here on earth. We do things out of the wrong reasons. We tend to do good without understanding what our true intentions are. Second, the fruit of Jesus' mission is for the people. "...to proclaim freedom FOR the PRISONERS and recovery of sight for the BLIND, to set the OPPRESSED free..." In this generation, we favor the rich over the poor. We see the rich as people to idolize, and we tend to forget those who need help. In God's eyes, the poor and oppressed are who we should work for. Lastly, the reason of service is for the Lord's favor. As Jesus proclaimed, "...to proclaim the year of the LORD'S FAVOR."
Personally, I never thought I could ever feel 100% fulfilled in life. As a kid, I thought if I had the best clothes, toys, gadgets, I could be happy. Even now my judgment gets clouded and I forget my true source of fulfillment and gratitude. When I lose sight of God, I get cranky, negative, and spoiled. By simply listening or reading the scripture or the word of God can make you realize that you are beyond blessed. Therefore, the fulfillment we must strive for in this short life is not in material things, but in service and loving others.
Luke 12:33 -- 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
