4th Sunday of Lent Sunday GospelLK 15:1-3, 11-32
Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus,
but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying,
“This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
So to them Jesus addressed this parable:
“A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father,
‘Father give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’
So the father divided the property between them.
After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings
and set off to a distant country
where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.
When he had freely spent everything,
a severe famine struck that country,
and he found himself in dire need.
So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens
who sent him to his farm to tend the swine.
And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed,
but nobody gave him any.
Coming to his senses he thought,
‘How many of my father’s hired workers
have more than enough food to eat,
but here am I, dying from hunger.
I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him,
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
I no longer deserve to be called your son;
treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’
So he got up and went back to his father.
While he was still a long way off,
his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion.
He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.
His son said to him,
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you;
I no longer deserve to be called your son.’
But his father ordered his servants,
‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him;
put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
Take the fattened calf and slaughter it.
Then let us celebrate with a feast,
because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again;
he was lost, and has been found.’
Then the celebration began.
Now the older son had been out in the field
and, on his way back, as he neared the house,
he heard the sound of music and dancing.
He called one of the servants and asked what this might mean.
The servant said to him,
‘Your brother has returned
and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf
because he has him back safe and sound.’
He became angry,
and when he refused to enter the house,
his father came out and pleaded with him.
He said to his father in reply,
‘Look, all these years I served you
and not once did I disobey your orders;
yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends.
But when your son returns
who swallowed up your property with prostitutes,
for him you slaughter the fattened calf.’
He said to him,
‘My son, you are here with me always;
everything I have is yours.
But now we must celebrate and rejoice,
because your brother was dead and has come to life again;
he was lost and has been found.’”

ReplyDelete1. For this gospel, you could say a contemporary problem that is presented through this gospel, would be the younger people of this generation losing themselves to too much earthly pleasures, sin and other such things.
2. Now for the revalida concept that could apply to this, it would definitely be the hedonistic view of man for the younger brother, as he squandered his inheritance purely for the sake of pleasuring himself.
But you could also apply Christian Anthropology, as the younger son had fallen, but redeemed himself to his father.
3. On the topic of obstacles to human sexuality, I go back to the fact that the younger son spent his fortune/inheritance on things that would solely pleasure him. (An example in the gospel itself being prostitutes.)
So basically in gospel, you could say that while we may fall to the temptations of things like pornography and the like, there is still a chance for you to redeem yourself.
Max Santos-Ocampo JG
ReplyDelete1. This gospel shows that young people are willing to give in to their desires, which will hurt them in the future.
2. The hedonistic view of man applies as they only believe in pleasuring each other.
3. It can address human sexuality because of how the boy spent his money on pleasure, which can include prostitutes, and promotes premarital sex, which is considered bad by the church. However, in the end, he is still forgiven, so there is always retribution at the end of the tunnel.
Pamela Siapno JG
ReplyDeleteIn this gospel, it can be seen that the problem shown can be related to the lavishes we have in life but we have to keep in mind that all these riches are not going to last forever, of course nothing does, except God's love for all of us. Moreover, it can be seen that the act of jealousy and anger can sometimes brush us away from God, we tend to sin and stay away from him from time to time but that is humanity and we can do nothing about it. But because of repentance and confession, we come back to Him. One of the revalida topics that can be related to this Gospel would be the Hedonistic view of life, wherein the eldest son was angry and selfish. It can address human sexuality since the boy spent money on selfish deeds for pleasure. Although despite that, he has changed and returned to God's love.

ReplyDeleteSo often I have heard this story, one of the best short stories ever written. We may become too used to it. It is always new, always has something new to say about God and ourselves. Here’s one: nowhere does it say that the father forgives his son! He just wants to celebrate his homecoming. The embrace of paternal welcome said it all! This is mercy, which is forgiveness and more. Mercy covers the sins of the one returning so they need not be even named. The father knew the son’s heart was right, and this would the beginning.
God is a forgiving father. And so should we be.
It is seen in this concept the Christian view of man. We believe that our Father will always be there. But it doesn't mean we should take it for granted. Even if He is there to forgive us, we must still try our best not to stray away. We must always also be like Him, to be forgiving to others.
A hindrance would be the neglect of His commandments. Sometimes people want to go their own way, not acknowledging facts or rules. Some people simply don't care about morals and use sexuality for pleasure. This must be stopped, because this isn't the true purpose for humans sexuality.
Mikee Almalvez JG
ReplyDeleteFor this gospel, a challenge given by it is learning to forgive. We tend to be hard on others who have done us wrong, and it becomes difficult for us forget what they have done. We easily hold grudges. Relating this to the recent revalida, it can be connected to Christian Anthropology. Man is fallen (like the brother), but was redeemed in the end. God is forever forgiving and merciful. On human sexuality, this addresses the obstacles through what the son has done: he ignored the purpose of sex as he only used it for pleasure and hardly ever regarded it as a sacred thing.

ReplyDelete1] SERVANT OR SON?
Are we God's servant, or are we God's Son? Remember, that God calls us to be his children, not his servants. There's a big difference. We remember that we have been forgiven, that we have been granted an eternal forgiveness from God. When you come back to him broken, he does not tell you that 'This will be the last time I will fix you.' He will fix over and over again because we are his children, not his servants.
2] GOD IS EVER-FORGIVING, AN EXAMPLE.
The Christian view of Man should be exemplified. This is the ideal way on how we should live. Through God the ever-living and forgiving Father's example of forgiveness in this Gospel.
3] WE ARE THE PRODIGAL FATHERS AS WELL.
As much as God forgives us, we should forgive others as well. Everyone deserves to be given a second chance, and everyone deserves to get the same love that God gives us. And this love should be given in the right and moral way, not through sexual acts or anything. But through love, the way God has given us.

ReplyDeleteLuxuries and temptation could potentially change the way a person perceives things and someone could lose themselves when it’s more than enough. In the Gospel, it has shown that one of the sons has lost his ways and when he then apologised to his father, that’s when he has returned "back to life”. It’s just like God is to us, he’s a forgiving God. Despite what you do, God will forgive you, as long as you repent. You’ll always be forgiven, but going too far will always lead to something worse. When pleasure was what the younger son wanted, it reminded me of the philosophy of hedonism or the “playboy” theory of life. Also, this could be in relation to our lesson about human sexuality as it shows that you have to be not tempted to commit sin against God and we shouldn’t disrespect or disobey his words.
TOQUE JG 38
ReplyDeleteToday, temptations are everywhere and this causes us to sin every now and then. In the gospel today, we once again hear the story of the prodigal son. The message here is simple — our father, God, is always waiting for us. He's just waiting for the time we repent and come back to His loving arms. He's always ready to accept us. It doesn't matter who we are, or what we've done — as long as we are willing to do so wholeheartedly.
Samantha Shah 33 Junior G
ReplyDeleteIn this gospel, it is about the prodigal son. It shows how the younger son blew all his material things and riches from his dad. As the son went back to his dad, he embraced him with open arms. This can be related to one’s relationship with their parents. Moreover, there are many broken families in the world today. Children with only one present parent or even none. We can use this gospel to remind us about how we must appreciate what our parents do for us.
I can relate this gospel with the concept of freedom and conscience. Firstly, our parents trust us to be good and loving children. However, our parents can’t guide us through every single thing so they often give us the freedom to make the right choice. We must use our conscience to discern right from wrong and always rely on our morals.
We are given the freedom to do anything, whether it comes from our parents, teachers or God Himself. We can use our gift from God for the right reasons. As teenagers, there are and will be many temptations and hardships facing us with human sexuality. One of the most common is the issue of pre-marital sex. We must use our freedom wisely and wait until marriage.
Elizabeth Jaehn JG
ReplyDeleteGod called us to become his children- and not his servants. We must always remember that God has forgiven us because we’ve been granted eternal forgiveness. No matter how many times we’ve sinned, God will always be there to pick up the pieces because He loves us and He is our loving Father.
A concept related to the gospel would be The Christian view of Man. The ideal way on how we should live is mentioned here because God is the forgiving Father's example of forgiveness in this Gospel.
As sons and daughters of God, we must learn to forgive our fellow brothers and sisters because everyone deserves a second chance because even we are given a second chance by God. Regardless of what sexuality a person has, we should all learn to accept a person and their mistakes because no one is perfect except for God.
Maggie Mariano JG
ReplyDelete1. The Parable of the Prodigal Son teaches us that no matter how broken, no matter how at fault and flawed we are, we remain to be children of God—He loves us endlessly and unconditionally. When we find ourselves lost and broken, even if the reason is because we had been too proud or we denied Him, God still choses to forgive us and love us without any conditions.
2. A key concept that may be used are the Views of Man, more specifically the Nihilistic and Christian view of Man. We may compare these two views of man to this gospel since with the Christian View, we believe that God continuouslly and endlessly loves us for our mistakes and our flaws. While in the Nihilistic View of Man, our mistakes, flaws and believes are meaningless—there is no god that gets affected or no spiritual being that we must repent to, which is completely different from the Christian View of Man, where faith is as important as ever.
3. The obstacles to human sexuality that may be addressed in this gospel is the fact that we should accept, forgive, love and respect everyone for who they are and for what sexuality and orientation they choose and desire to be. Because in the end, they are all God’s children.
The gospel basically talks about being a child of God. We are all called to be sons of God not servants. Like we do with our actual parents, we need treat them with respect and being obedient to them. The greatest love you can get from this world is the love from God and your parents. Because you are His child, He will love you unconditionally despite the negative or wrongdoings you’ve done in the world. Repent for the Lord forgives.
ReplyDeleteThe topic given is the dignity of the human person. This showcases equality to everyone. Because we are all children of God, we are given dignity to give everyone the repent and love they deserve. Which this leads us to have a relationship with one another. We are all made through God’s image and likeness.
Don’t disrespect your neighbours even when they’ve done something wrong. We are all sinners which doesn’t make anyone lesser than us. Equality to every human being because we are all one race. Just because we differ in personality or beliefs doesn’t mean we aren’t brothers and sisters in God’s eyes. In His eyes we are all equal, and all worthy of His love. His love has no costs. It also doesn’t cost anything to treat people the way they deserve to.
Sanchez 31 JG
ReplyDeleteThis gospel can address human sexuality since the reading serves as a reminder to us all that we should not be fooled by the temptations around us. Most of us just tend to forget the good things that we must commit to and forget about the respect that our human sexuality deserves. We can apply the concept of conscience since our conscience helps us to know if what we are going to do is good or bad. We must always remember that we must always pick what is good over what is bad or wrong.
Louie Ann Teves JG 37
ReplyDeleteIn the gospel Jesus teaches us the parable of the prodigal son. Much like the younger son we often take things for granted, like the gospel. But no matter what we do God will always be waiting for us, as long as we repent for our sins.
I can relate this topic to the philosophical views of man. We saw in the gospel that the younger son had a nihilistic view since he was spending his money and living life for pleasure. As Christians we should focus more on what we should do in the name of God and not for pleasure and this is what the gospel teaches us.
The younger son was faced with many temptations and he did chose to give in to those temptations. By giving into those temptations, he has tampered with his human sexuality. Us the youth, would be placed in different positions where we would need to decide for ourselves. We must remember in deciding that we should not harm our human sexuality.
ROLLO VELARDE JG 41
ReplyDelete1. This gospel shows how people give in easily to the sins and temptations this world has. We must always know that God is the one that would give us eternal life. Our earthly desires and possessions do not mean anything once we die. We must learn how to live independently and show how strong we are on our own.
2. This gospel shows the views of man, specifically, the hedonistic view of man. The hedonistic view of man is when we live through pleasure. In the gospel, we see the brother used all his possessions to pleasure himself. We mustn't commit the same mistakes and we should learn how to respect life.
3. This gospel can address the problems of Human Sexuality because it shows that even if we commit sin, such as premarital sex, pleasuring yourself too much, etc.., we can always be forgiven by God if we really are sorry. We should always know that we can redeem our past mistakes and we shouldn't be too harsh on ourselves.
Ted Matthew O. Pacis, 26 JG
ReplyDeleteThe Gospel challenges society not to follow the way of the younger son. It already foreshadow's man's foolishness and arrogance as they waste their lives to do unnecessary and sinful things. As to the younger generations as it goes the best thing to realize with this is a lot of the youth choose to live this in a sense hedonistic way of living as it makes them happy until they're dead, broke or in trouble, that's why this Gospel teaches us that we should not follow this example. But at the same time it also teaches us to know that if we do start our lives like this, it is never too late to return to God as He is willing to save us as long as we realize what needs to be done and change our ways for good. In relation to the revalida I believe that almost everything applies here as it shows how humans live and how they get themselves into trouble. Freedom and Conscience should guide us towards a better outlook in life to do what is good rather than to waste our lives. Human Sexuality shows that we must not take Sex as something for granted like how the prodigal son has in his life. This Gospel can also relate to Human Sexuality as it teaches us to stray away from the things that make our life hedonistic, such as over-doing sex as something recreational and pornography and masturbation as something we shouldn't make into habits. Although even if these may occur, it will never be too late to change as God always forgives.

1. One problem that we face today, as shown in this gospel, is that people nowadays tend to lose themselves and give into their carnal desires. They give into lust and their vices.
2. One topic from the revalida that I can apply to this gospel is one of the views of man, hedonism. The man believes that the only purpose of life is to live for his pleasure only and for nobody else.
3. This can be an obstacle to human sexuality because the younger son used all of his fortunes for the sole purpose of his selfish desires. People will give into temptation and it is up to us to turn to God’s way.
Mico Cruz JG
ReplyDeleteThe challenges in this gospel that are present in today’s society is being too materialistic. The problem depicted in the gospel is that people tend to lose themselves in their own luxuries and riches. The prodigal son lost himself and his father to his own materialistic possessions.
The hedonistic view of man can be most depicted in this gospel since the prodigal son since he only made use of his inheritance for luxuries and pleasures.
With relation to human sexuality, the prodigal son could have used his inheritance not only for luxuries, but also for prostitutes, sexual intercourse, etc. He used it only for his self gratification and nothing else. Human sexuality is sacred and is meant for reproduction, not pleasure.
ReplyDeleteGospel 4 Paolo Cabero J-G
1. I think that the the challenges of this gospel in today’s society is learning to forgive because sometimes we can’t forgive someone because of the things they did to us. We can’t forget what they did to us. In return we seek for revenge which only makes us sin even more.
2. Freedom can be applied here because we have the right to do anything yet we do bad things and abuse our freedom but because of our conscience we will know what’s right or wrong and we can change for the better.
3. Our conscience will help us discern right or wrong. We should always know what’s morally right because there will be many temptations and challenges we will face with human sexuality.
MATT ILANO | JG
ReplyDelete1. We see in the Gospel that the older brother got jealous of what his younger brother received. In this, we see it also applied in our generation when we easily get jealous of how people are treated differently even if we all do the same thing.
2. They key concept applied here is of the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, because although the younger brother had all his basic needs, he still lacked the others like safety, love, esteem, and actualization.
3. This Gospel address the obstacles through showing that even if we disobey and go against our Human Sexuality, God will be there to welcome us back to love us and comfort us. It addresses the obstacles in such a way that in God's love, we remain at His heart which then makes us stick to our Human Sexuality.
Nathaniel Castaños JG
ReplyDelete1. We forget how important our family members are to us. We sometime think it is unfair when they get more "rewards", this is because we are becoming too materialistic. When in fact, we should just be content that they are happy, therefore we should also be happy.
2. The key concept that I can best apply here is the concept of hedonism. The son believes that luxury is the best source of pleasure in life. This also differs from the view of life of a Christian person.
3. Hedonism is the belief that the main aim in life is to seek self-pleasure. This is how we should not portray Human Sexuality. We should do otherwise, to preserve our bodies till the right time for the right person.
Piero Dominguez JG
ReplyDelete1. This gospel shows how people give in willingly to their desires and how their actions affect them in the future.
2. The hedonistic view of man applies to this because he spent all his money on pleasure
3. It can address human sexuality because the boy spent his money on prostitutes which count as pre marital sex. Pre marital sex is a violation of the sacred act of sex but even though the boy committed such sin his father still took him back and forgave him like how God will always welcome us back and forgives us because he loves us.
ALIAH RAFAEL, JG
ReplyDelete1. This gospel can relate to so many people especially when some can neglect what they have and be careless in what they do. Now a days kids can be spoiled and get whatever they want yet at the end their parent's and Jesus Christ still give so much love to them because forgiveness is something that should be given easily especially to those we love.
2. The best key concept in the revalida that can be shown in this gospel would be the views of man mainly the nihilistic view of man and christian view of man.
3. This can address human sexuality by just simply loving, forgiving, and acceptance because these three traits are all that is needed in ones life especially when going through a rough time.
Sage Capistrano JG
ReplyDelete1. A challenge to young people is that a lot of children waste their time, money, efforts, and etc. Most of them end up running back to their parents when they have lost everything and squandered in their riches.
2. A revalida concept here is that the young man had a hedonistic point of view on life, he spent all his riches on personal wants, on pleasure.
3. How this can tackle the obstacle of human sexuality is to return to the lord, even after sinning against him and after mistreating our human sexuality. The lord will always be welcoming, with open arms he will accept us and love us once more, even if we have desecrated his gift of human sexuality.
Piolo Abarentos J-G
ReplyDelete1. A challenge to us young people these days is that we like to waste our resources such as money time and etc and most of the things we wasted them on aren’t even worth it. We must learn to properly spend our resources in order for us to become better people.
2. The hedonistic view of life can be applied here as this person squandered his riches and he ended losing it all but in the end he did eventually come back to his father and he learned his lesson.
3. Human sexuality can be applied here as even if we do squander our gifts from God aka sexuality he will still forgive us as long as we repent
Danielle Valera JG
ReplyDeleteFor this gospel, i could say an issue that is it facing would be the younger people of this generation us losing themselves and get too carried away which lead to sin. The hedonistic view of man is applied here as they believe in only the pleasurement, like they believe that pleasuring each other would be the enough. An obstacle is human sexuality because of how the boy spent on good money simply just for pleasure.
