4th Sunday of Lent Sunday GospelLK 15:1-3, 11-32
Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus,
but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying,
“This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
So to them Jesus addressed this parable:
“A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father,
‘Father give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’
So the father divided the property between them.
After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings
and set off to a distant country
where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.
When he had freely spent everything,
a severe famine struck that country,
and he found himself in dire need.
So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens
who sent him to his farm to tend the swine.
And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed,
but nobody gave him any.
Coming to his senses he thought,
‘How many of my father’s hired workers
have more than enough food to eat,
but here am I, dying from hunger.
I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him,
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
I no longer deserve to be called your son;
treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’
So he got up and went back to his father.
While he was still a long way off,
his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion.
He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.
His son said to him,
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you;
I no longer deserve to be called your son.’
But his father ordered his servants,
‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him;
put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
Take the fattened calf and slaughter it.
Then let us celebrate with a feast,
because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again;
he was lost, and has been found.’
Then the celebration began.
Now the older son had been out in the field
and, on his way back, as he neared the house,
he heard the sound of music and dancing.
He called one of the servants and asked what this might mean.
The servant said to him,
‘Your brother has returned
and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf
because he has him back safe and sound.’
He became angry,
and when he refused to enter the house,
his father came out and pleaded with him.
He said to his father in reply,
‘Look, all these years I served you
and not once did I disobey your orders;
yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends.
But when your son returns
who swallowed up your property with prostitutes,
for him you slaughter the fattened calf.’
He said to him,
‘My son, you are here with me always;
everything I have is yours.
But now we must celebrate and rejoice,
because your brother was dead and has come to life again;
he was lost and has been found.’”

ReplyDeleteGUIDE QUESTIONS IN WRITING THE GOSPEL REFLECTION:
1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
I believe that the challenge being depicted in the gospel is materialism. The youth of this generation are extremely materialistic, we need all the newest gadgets, the most expensive clothes or the most money to be able to "live life to the fullest". We forget that wealth and materials wont be able to fill every part of your heart. We can only fill ourselves when we immerse ourselves in the love of God.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
The prodigal son shows us the concepts of morality. In this gospel we see how ontological dignity works. For example; let us say you have a 20 peso bill, because it is 20 pesos its value is 20 pesos. But what if we crumple it up or drop it on the ground? does its value change? No it doesnt. Just like in the prodigal son, the son's ontological dignity is not tarnished despite him being a sinner. We all have this ontological dignity. It reminds us that there is no sin big enough to take us away from our God or devalue us. What can be tarnished by since is our moral dignity that can be restored through the sacraments.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
When we become so materialistic we tend to see people as objects as well and the true meaning behind human sexuality is violated. When people are too materialistic we see others as objects, so sex in the eyes of a materialistic person is not sacred, it is simply a pleasurable activity. The gospel shows us how we all have value and we shouldnt let it waste away.

ReplyDelete1. The challenges of this gospel in today’s society is the mishandled freedom that the youth nowadays tends to abuse. We forget that we must always be responsible in what we do. Another challenge is forgetting that we must always forgive each other and not envy one another since we are all humans who make mistakes and even God forgives us so who are we not to forgive others?
2. The key concepts from revalida that I can connect here is True Freedom. We must know that whatever we do in our lives is for the love of God and that is how we achieved true freedom in our lives.
3. This gospel can address the obstacles to Human Sexuality since we must learn to be more grateful of the inner things and truly love one another. We must learn not to be greedy for material things since these are not the things that will fulfil us in life.

ReplyDelete1. The Gospel, more specifically the parable, shows that the youth does not know how to properly handle certain situations. Moreover, some of the situations that the members of society get into may be caused by their own doings, and this is because some people tend to focus on their personal wants and lead selfish lives. Challenges like the ones present in the Gospel may also be caused by the misuse of one's freedom, and this is very evident in the future generations as some of them are not aware on how to properly spend their time as well as other things.
2. We may relate the topics concerning True Freedom, specifically sin which is the greatest obstacle to authentic freedom. This may be applied in the passage since it is clear that the younger son gave in to temptation, which then led to his sin and damaging his relationship with his father. His sin also served as a hindrance to his true freedom due to the fact that it led him to many hardships and issues.
3. The Gospel addresses the things that block us away from human sexuality since it reminds us to express our love for others rather than abandoning them. It also allows people to forgive each other for the faults of one, and this then strengthens the bond between people.
Louise Ngo JE
ReplyDelete1. The gospel is about the youth is being wasteful of the freedom given to them. They tend to abuse their own freedom which leads them to live a life that takes everything for granted. These are the obstacles that we need to avoid. We have to live a selfless life and be thankful for what we have. We must be make mature and sensible and should always know how to make decisions that will be good for others and not just yourself.
2. I could relate this gospel to Freedom in the New Testament, since it teaches us the meaning of being free. For a person to truly regain freedom, he should live a selfless life and always love God and others. The passage shows that the younger son has given up to temptations and became selfless. The younger son then experienced hardships as he continued being selfish. He only started to feel prosperity when he started to follow God by following and doing what true freedom is.
3. As the younger son received his share of the land, he started doing acts that hinder him from loving the people that truly loved him. He started being greedy and not being thankful for the things that was given to him. These kinds of acts are the obstacles of Human Sexuality, since human sexuality is the act of loving others and not being selfish.
1.)Nowadays, most kids are very materialistic, they have forgotten the true meaning of life. We must always remember that we cannot bring all these things to heaven, we are not measured by how much we have and what we have. We must always remember that it is very important to be rich in faith and religion. Also the gospel, shows how we tend to forget what we are made here to do which is to spread the good word of God.
ReplyDelete2.) We can connect this gospel with the lesson of True Freedom. The son was given inheritance and he squandered it doing sinful things.
We can learn that it is important to live a simple life and to always think of God first in whatever we do.
3.) This gospel can relate with human sexuality since human sexuality is the act of loving others and learning how to share our belongings. Unlike the son he was being selfish and greedy with what he had. We must learn how to share and to use it with good use for the greater glory of God.

Today’s society we tend to misuse the freedom given to us by God. Just because we have freedom does not mean that the things will be doing might hurt ourselves and other people. We have to be responsible of our freedom and use it only for the glory of God.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
The key concept we can relate to this is morality, specifically the dignity of a person. No matter what we do we are still God’s creations in God’s eyes and he will forgive us. The father here represents God who is loving and merciful and the son represents us the sinners who if we embrace and allow God in our lives, He will still be able to forgive us.

This gospel addresses the obstacles to human sexuality in a way that it shows us that no matter how far we astray from the Lord. The Lord is just there waiting for

ReplyDelete1. Today, the youth abuse their freedom too much, that it reaches to the point wherein they become ignorant and become materialistic. Being materialistic is a problem because they aren’t contented with the blessings they receive even though they are already extremely lucky because there are some with only enough to keep them alive for the day. Being sensitive and grateful is what God would want to see in each and everyone of us.
2.An example of a topic we can see from the revalida is Freedom. Freedom because what ever we do should be morally good and will make God happy. But it’s up to how you use your freedom to achieve that.
3. Since human sexuality is closely related to loving other people. we need to learn how to love everything we receive, accept it as a blessing. unlike the younger son, he was never contented to what he received.

ReplyDelete1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
As human beings, we fail to realize how much of a privilege the freedom that has been granted to us by God is. We have the tendency to throw this around as if we deserve is, when in reality we do not deserve freedom at all. The prodigal son teaches how failing to understand the privilege and the gift that freedom is can lead us astray, and it is only by grace that we may be saved and reborn.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
The topic on ontological and moral dignity is something I see is applicable to this gospel. The prodigal son did make a mockery of the gifts given to him by his father. He used his freedom in a poor manner, and in turn tarnished his moral dignity. However, from what we see in the reaction of the father towards his shameful son, the son's ontological remained intact. He is then forgiven and showered with gift of grace and love.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
From this gospel, we learn that though certain people have different views on sexuality, and that this may cause them to fall into sin, we must still treat them respectfully as human beings. Committing a sin does not automatically make you an animal or any less of a human being than anyone else. As I have stated in my previous gospel reflection, "No sin is greater than any othe sin". Since we are all sinners, we are all equal, and it is through this that we treat other people, even with different sexual preferences, with love, grace, and respect.

ReplyDelete1. The challenges seen here is how we misuse freedom that God has given us. God gave us the freedom here on earth and we shiuld learn how to use it by knowing what the right acts are from the wrong ones. Also, we are made by God and we should value life because God wants us to care for his creations.
2. The concept that I can relate here is true freedom. True freedom should followed because Christ died for our sins. We should learn how to value life by putting God in the center of our lives because he is our creator.
3. The gospel can address the problems on human sexuality because people misuse their freedom and perform acts that can affect people like intercourse. Also, the gospel teaches us to hsve the right freedom and to use it wisely.
Maxinne De Guzman JE
ReplyDelete1. In today's society, we seem to forget that not everything is about the materials we have in life, we continue to live with trying to impress others with what we have and always getting the latest gadgets. This gospel teaches us that, when we get struck by materialism, there is a point where we realize that it is wrong, and we will return to our father, God.
2. True freedom can be related to this gospel. In the prodigal son, he was given the opportunity to live on his own when he wanted to separate from his family. In the time that he left, he wasted the riches given to him, then he came back and was accepted wholeheartedly by his father. We are all give freedom to do what we want for the glory of God, and we all are able to think for ourselves, though, like the prodigal son, if we steer to the wrong direction, one way or another we will return to God.
3. We are given freedom, and since this is the situation, some people tend to abuse it to do things that we know is wrong. Pre-marital sex occurs even if we know it shouldn't, this gospel must teach us that we should not go towards this direction.

ReplyDelete1. The challenges found in the gospel that is significant to our generation is the abuse of our freedom. Moreover, people at present live extremely narrow minded and selfish lives inside of them. They overlook that the end goal to achieve genuine and credible freedom is by learning to forgive, accept, and love others.
2. I can connect the concepts of True Freedom in this gospel because we should realize that whatever we do in our lives is for God’s love and that is the manner by which we accomplished genuine and true freedom in our lives as human beings and children of God.
3. The Gospel addresses the things that keep far from human sexuality because it tells to express our affection for others as opposed to deserting them. It additionally permits individuals to overlook each other for the flaws of one, and this then reinforces the bond between those individuals.
Jeremy Monreal JE
ReplyDelete1. The challenges found in the gospel is that we abuse the freedom that is given to us. We don't see the true meaning of freedom that is why we commit sins.
2. I can connect the topic of true freedom. We are all given freedom but it is in our hands to use this properly. We should respect this given oppurtunity to love others and become closer to God.
3. The gospel addresses the problem on human sexuality. We are given freedom and that is why we should respect and understand its true meaning. We should choose the right decisions to fulfill the roles that were given to us by God.
JULIA BRAGO JE
ReplyDelete1. One challenge reflected in the gospel is the pride among young people. We often think that we do not need our parents’ guidance anymore so we tend to make decisions for ourselves, which we will regret in the end.
2. I can relate this to conscience because if you know you’ve done wrong to others, you should always be deeply sorry for it. In the gospel, it is seen that the younger son had to undergo hard times to realize that he has done wrong unto his father.
3. This addresses the obstacle of human sexuality by showing that we all have freedom and its up to us how to make use of it. If we end up abusing it, we are not masters of our own sexuality. Therefore, giving in to temptations.,
Sofia L. Lamberte J-E
ReplyDelete1. The challenge posed in this gospel is the carelessness of the people and how they yearn for materials and possessions over morals and culture. This can also lead to the misuse of one's freedom and how people abuse the power handed to us by the Lord at times.
2. True Freedom and Conscience play a big role in this gospel as it teaches us to use our freedom properly and to learn to have a good conscience by our side in order to fight obstacles and vices everyday.
3. The gospel relates to addressing the obstacles of human sexuality where it teaches us to use our freedom wisely and to be aware of our own actions and its consequences. It teaches us that our sexuality is also a part of our freedom and conscience as well and thus we learn to grow and mature in our choices in life.
Micaela Gabrielle B. Tempongko JE CN:40
ReplyDelete1.Today, the young mishandle their opportunities given to them to the point wherein they end up becoming materialistic. This is an issue since they aren't contented with whatever they get they get despite the fact that they can get resources that the less fortunate have to work hard for. This gospel teaches us that forgiveness and being grateful is what makes life happy.
2.Our topic on freedom is applicable to this gospel. Freedom is often misunderstood. Most think that freedom is where you can do anything you want. Their mistake there that doing whatever they want will come with consequence. The right way to live freely is to avoid evil, forgive and follow Jesus’ footsteps.
3.Human sexuality is about loving your husband/wife and procreating. When talking about loving, the first step is always forgiving. Our society needs to learn how to forgive, be grateful and continue living life for God.
Alyssa Abad JE CN:1
ReplyDelete1. The challenge that is evident in this gospel that can be related to the youth is that people, especially the youth, feel as if they can do anything on their own without the help of other people as well as God's help. They have the idea that they can do anything on their own since they are already capable of doing so much things however, in the end, they realize that they need the help of a superior being which is God.
2. The key concept that can be applied in this situation is Sin being the greatest obstacle in our authentic freedom. This is because in the gospel, the young man was given an inheritance from his father therefore he was given the freedom to use this inheritance. However he used it in a sinful way thus he became lost and sinful.
3. This gospel can help a person realize that we are people and we all face various temptations. We must remember to never let these temptations overcome us. Also we must remember to forgive those who have sinned against us because we are only humans and we also have sinned against others thus we must follow Jesus's footsteps and obey God's teachings.

ReplyDelete1. In today's generation, young people measure how much a person cares for them by means of materialistic things. We should also not be jealous of what others have been given, and instead be graceful for the blessings that we already have.
2. This gospel can be related to an individual's freedom. An individual should use this freedom, which had been given by God, correctly, and not use it to satisfy only yourself, but also others.
3. This can be related to Human Sexuality, as we all have the freedom to do and choose what we want to do with this. Although, we should also take into consideration the given role assigned by God to us.
Joshua Nery Junior-E CN:28
ReplyDelete1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
- we the youth can be very envious, abusive, and materialistic. Envious because of what another person has compared to themselves. Abusive because of situations wherein teens become irresponsible and take things for granted. Materialistic because to them, getting the best clothes, jewelry, technology, etc is everything.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
- a topic I can relate this to is True Freedom. We can never attain true freedom when we are abusing it. We should always think of God first before acting upon anything.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
- we shouldn't use our freedom to have sex before marriage. We should use it to stay pure and stay chaste until marriage comes.
Xavier Antonio P. Reyes JE
ReplyDelete1. Nowadays, people are very materialistic. Kids always want the latest gadgets and other material possessions, and they think that they are loved less if they dont get these things but their siblings do. But we shouldn't let material belongings measure one's love for us, because we should be grateful for what we have.
2. I can relate to this gospel is the concept of true freedom because the younger son used his freedom wrongly when he left his home until his conscience helped him realise what he did was wrong and led him to return home.
3. This gospel can address human sexuality because in a romantic relationship, couples should learn how to forgive their loved ones.
Joshua Nicolas JE
ReplyDelete1. In the present, people are blinded by material things. These earthly things are transient, and will fade with time. What is truly important is our relationship with God, as that is our ticket into His Kingdom.
2. This can be related to true freedom. In the first part of the gospel is the common belief of what freedom is: doing whatever you want. And the second part of the gospel shows the true meaning of freedom: love of God. The prodigal son returned to his father in shame, telling him that he was no longer fit to be his son, and that he should be treated as a servant. But the father, completely ignoring his son's faults, rejoices that his son has returned. This shows that God is more than willing to take us back, no matter what we have done.
3. This can be related to the concept of premarital sex. While we have the freedom to commit premarital sex, sex after marriage is a way of ensuring that the couple's love lasts, and that is the freedom that God wishes for us.
Paolo Sy-Quia
ReplyDelete1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
Our generation is too focused on pleasure and not enough of the important things in life. We live in sin and are careless like the prodigal son. We are unaware to the factors in our life such as our human dignities.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
True freedom can related here because the son was free to choose to do what he did. However, he chose sin and this was not him exercising true freedom. We are all given freedom and for us to be truly free we must do good.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
The gospel shows us how one can commit sins like those concerning human sexuality but still we can be forgiven by God. It shows us that although sins against our human sexuality our wrong, we can still be forgiven because God is a good and forgiving God.
JAIME PASTOR JE
ReplyDelete1. A challenge presented in the gospel is the act of being materialistic, which ultimately becomes a concept more important than our own parents' love.
2. A topic related to this is freedom. As you are free to do whatever you want, you must remember to love another as well. Like in the gospel, his father gave the son riches, but the son of his own free will wasted all of them, but it still remains that he loves his father, which how we was accepted back into his father's life.
3. If we become materialistic about each other's sexuality, we create a disregard for their sexuality which leads us to view others as objects, sometimes as sexual objects, which strays away from the true meaning of human sexuality.
1.The gospel is about the young is being irresponsible of the freedom given to them. They tend to mishandle their own freedom which drives them to carry on with an existence that underestimates everything. These are the hindrances that we have to keep away from. We need to carry on with a selfless life and be grateful for what we have. We should be experienced and sensible and ought to know how to settle on choices that will be useful for others and not simply yourself.
ReplyDelete2.The main idea we can identify with this is dignity of a man. Regardless of what we do we are still God's manifestations in God's eyes and he will overlook us. The father here represents God who is cherishing and merciful and the child represents the sinners who permit God in our lives, which is why He will in any case have the capacity to forgive us.
3.Since human sexuality is firmly identified with loving other individuals, we have to figure out how to cherish all that we get, acknowledge it as a gift. not at all like the more youthful child, he was never content to what he got.
Isis Cancio JE
ReplyDelete1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
People tend to get jealous when others receive things they believe is meant to be theirs, they become rash and forget what they had already been given. In a way, this gospel also alludes to how people always make rash decisions that they come to regret, when people make these sorts of decisions they do not think of how it would affect others around them. However, this gospel also shows that no matter what, we can always know that God will always accept us no matter what happens, that there are people in this world that would give us unconditional love.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
One key concept that is depicted clearly in the gospel is the concept of conscience. Conscience is shown in how the younger son came to regret what he did, his conscience had made him think of his father and how his father had always loved him. Another concept is freedom from when the younger son had used his freedom unwisely, he had used it to spend his money uselessly, wasting all his father had given him.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
This gospel shows that We must appreciate all the kinds of love we have with others.

We can apply freedom to this because in the gospel but the son was given the freedom to do whatever he wanted. Unfortunately, the son chose to sin, which is not what we're supposed to do because using our freedom to do the right thing is what makes us truly free.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
The gospel can address the obstacle to human sexuality because it shows us to not be blind by materialistic thing and to understand what is truly important, as such it will allows us to love others properly.

Sometimes, a lot of us tend to be too materialistic, that we lose focus on what really is important, which is God of course. We tend to take things for granted without really thinking things through and that becomes our downfall.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
We can apply freedom since He couldve done whatever he wanted and he chose to sin, and that is not what we are supposed to do because sin strays us away from God.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
being materialistic blinds us on what really is important and it might make us not use our sexuality properly to the point where we would sell our bodies because we want money.
1. The challenges in the gospel is about the irresponsibility of freedom that the youth tend to abuse, they commit mistakes occasionally and dont learn from it. Us as humans are bound to make mistakes but we should definitely learn to be responsible.
ReplyDelete2. The concept i can compare it with would be true freedom because we need to make the right choices and do things not for ourselves but for the love of god, that way we can learn to love and be loved by god.
3. This gospel can help aleviate the obstacle because it teaches us how to appreciative and love on another wholeheartedly. We need to learn to have values and morals because in the end those treasures have more worth than all materials.
