5th Sunday of Lent March 13 Sunday Gospel JN 8:1-11
Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area,
and all the people started coming to him,
and he sat down and taught them.
Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman
who had been caught in adultery
and made her stand in the middle.
They said to him,
“Teacher, this woman was caught
in the very act of committing adultery.
Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women.
So what do you say?”
They said this to test him,
so that they could have some charge to bring against him.
Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.
But when they continued asking him,
he straightened up and said to them,
“Let the one among you who is without sin
be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Again he bent down and wrote on the ground.
And in response, they went away one by one,
beginning with the elders.
So he was left alone with the woman before him.
Then Jesus straightened up and said to her,
“Woman, where are they?
Has no one condemned you?”
She replied, “No one, sir.”
Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you.
Go, and from now on do not sin any more.”

ReplyDeleteWe face a lot of temptations everyday which lead us to sin, especially commit lust. We shouldn’t allow the temptation to take over our minds and we should control ourselves since we would want to live a fruitful and sinless life. The best topic I can apply from the revalida is the advantages and disadvantages of legalising prostitution since once prostitution is legalised, a lot of men or women would tend to cheat on their partners with prostitutes for various reasons. We can address the obstacles to human sexuality by being aware of our actions and homosexuals would know that as long as they do not engage in any sexual activities, God would always be by their side
Allyssa Aguiilo Junior-I
ReplyDeleteWith our generation, there are a lot of temptations that most of us face which is lust. This makes us commit to bad things. For example, being in a relationship. If the person is not satisfied enough will go to another person, therefore committing adultery. Legalizing prostitution can be one concept that can be associated with this topic because from the example I gave, if one from the relationship is not satisfied, they would go to another which can be a prostitute. The gospel can address the obstacles of human sexuality by knowing the right person who to have this activity with.
Camilo De Guzman Junior I
ReplyDeleteThe challenge seen in this gospel by us is the act of adultery, this act goes against the commandments of God. These temptations are very plentiful to the youth today because we are exposed to so many sexual obstacles and temptations that allow us to abuse our bodies and abuse others as well. It is a different kind of sexual act that is against God and for which He condemns. For us, it is not just adultery that we do, we have done so much more than that woman yet we are still here.
It relates to our revalida because we have talked of chastity and purity in our revalida, as well as obstacles to the human sexuality. Adultery goes against our chasteness because it shows that we do not treat our bodies as a temple of God. It shows that we are not showing respect for our body by giving it away to others. Adultery also breaks the bond you have made with a person under God’s eyes. It does not let you find true freedom and purity in yourself for it stops you from being one with your body rather your body is controlling you.
It is an obstacle to human sexuality because, as I said, shows you are no in control of your sexual desires and your sexual urges. It does not let you find God in your love-making because that is what is supposed to happen. It is not even called love-making because it is all out of desire rather than emotions and love. This abuses your sexuality and shows that it is not an important thing. The gospel helps us know that even if we have committed these sins and have stopped going to God, we can still repent. Jesus forgave that woman for He knew she would go and not sin again. He also condemned those who wanted to punish her for they have sinned as well. Jesus could see she was sorry for her sins and loved Him, but those who accused the woman did not. If we just do this, even though we sin and do these sins over and over again, we can always go back to God because He will accept us with loving arms.
ReplyDeleteBeatrix Longa Junior-I
This relates to the society today because everyone is being accused of committing a sin when they too have sinned. The challenge here is temptation to sin. Many people often do this act of adultery in the youth today. A concept that helps explain further with this is prostitution and something that can help resolve this is chastity. Prostitution is when people sell their bodies for money by doing sexual acts. This mainly happens because it is the last job option to provide for a family. Chastity is refraining from sexual acts or anything related to it. It is only okay for human sexuality after marriage and for procreation because God gave human sexuality to us as a gift. The gospel helps in informing people that we are not perfect and all commit sin but we should just refrain from doing so and doing the same mistake again.
Gab Yuzon J-I
ReplyDeleteIn today's society, this is seen through the acts of homosexuality, porography and other obstacles to chastity especially in the youth due to influence of drugs, alcohol, and at times peer pressure. These issues are seen in prostitution because this is selling your own body only for money, pre marital sex because of the unawareness of the youth towards its effects and consequences. This gospel tells us that even though we commit sin, the lord is merciful in his ways and that he will always forgive us and it is only up to us to go back to him and repent after we have sinned.
This gospel talks talks about the challenges of us to use our God give human sexuality properly, since the woman commited adultery. Meaning she was not responsible with it. I think we this gospel gives us time to think about true freedom. The people around the woman were abusing her verbally and physically, and did not see through her wanting to change. They just brought her down even more, meaning they were not using their true freedom properly. No matter how much you may have sinned, God will always forgive and He will always take ypu back into his arms.

ReplyDeleteTemptation is one of the greatest obstacles that we have in life. We must know that temptation is the number one cause of sin. Young people all over the world are always the most curious among the rest. They have been to exposed to certain media that changes their perceptions on life and etc. We can apply our topics of human sexuality because we would be knowledgable about our bodies and our sexuality. We are all different in many different ways. We know that sin is avoidable but sometimes we sin because its a human mistake and we shouldn't be ashamed of it because we are humans. All we must do is commit ourselves to God.
This gospel talks about how we should not judge anyone because only God can and we should all strive to make ourselves fully clean first before we call out others mistakes, but for us, it is impossible because only God is perfect. We all have our own flaws and that is what makes us human.
ReplyDeleteSo many generations and as time goes by, the temptations have been spreading faster than ever. Temptations not only lurk among the adults but also teenagers. They may be in a form of media or people which makes a lot commit adultery each day. Now, everyone is exposed to such sins with how developed our technology is, pornography shows up. Why do people do this? Reasons such as pleasure and money are technically the main reasons why we commit adultery whether they are young or old. Children also get involved because of lack of money and they have no choice because it's basically easy money if you get involved to this. We must try to resist temptations even though they are hard to avoid. Don't get involved to peer pressure because in some cases, that's a reason why teenagers do such act at a young age.
ReplyDeleteAnnika Caniza

This gospel can be related to the temptations that many teenagers face. In our society today, it is sometimes very difficult to follow the teachings of the church fully because of the way social media presents certain controversial issues. For example, many teenagers can be dragged into doing vices, which goes against God's word. However, this gospel also teaches us that no matter how far into sin we can go, God will always forgive us if we truly are sorry and want to change for the better. In spite of God's ultimate forgiveness, we should never abuse it. We should not take it as a go signal to commit sin just because He will always forgive. We must always strive to be good people.
Lynux Ansay. Jr-I
ReplyDeleteThis gospel is about forgiving other people. We should not be hypocritical in a way that we condemn other people for their mistakes even though their mistakes are also our own. Nobody is perfect, so it's best that we should not be judgmental. This gospel challenges us, the youth of today's society, to focus on a person's potential to do good instead of scrutinizing every flaw a he/she has. If we were the one that committed sin, Jesus himself does not abhor us. He continues to loves us and calls for us to change for the good.
Bianca Fernandez JI
ReplyDeleteThis gospel is a reminder that we as people are forgetting what God taught us, and that is to forgive. We tend to forget that we make so much mistakes, and God forgives us everytime. However when someone does something wrong to us, it takes us a very long time to forgive them, or sometimes we don't even forgive them at all. This action shows us how hypocritical we can be, and this gospel is reminding us to fix our ways. We must live a life God wants us to live, and that means we much follow His ways. How? Well you can start by learning to forgive others just as quick as God forgives us. Then, we should try our very best to avoid committing sins against God, so there would be less things He has to forgive us for, and our sorry will actually be meaningful.
Johan Nepomuceno jr-I
ReplyDeletePeople tend to forget that they too are sinner whenever they condemn somebody else when they do sin. Prejudices now exists and makes these conditions make even harder. Society now condemn others whenever they see something inappropriate towards them but forget themselves in the process. This all leads back to one's conscience in whether he/she should condemn others even if they do sins which may be considered more severe than the sin of the person they are condemning.
Jai Munji Junior I
ReplyDeleteThe gospel is telling us that we are all sinners and no one is perfect. We don't have the right to judge other peopoe based on their acts. The gospel is also teaching us that Jesus is very forgiving. Despite the sins that the woman did, he doesn't condemn her. It shows that Jesus treats everyone with fairness and equality. No one is perfect so we shouldn't put ourselves above other people. From the revalida, again, I would like to talk about freedom and in order for us to have true freedom, we must follow God and his word. It shows that we should live a life committed to Christ and to live a chaste life. This gospel can address our problems by encouraging us to be humble and by following Jesus' teachings and by giving importance to ourselves.

I believe that the common problem that is still prevalent today is temptation. Especially for people my age, we get curious and resort to giving in just for the sake of trying something new. We can relate this to our topic which is the Prostitution. Men and women would tend to give into sexual temptation. Therefore, this would violate the essence of human sexuality. Human Sexuality is a gift that allows us to be free and to give us choices and allows us to choose our own preferences. Hence, adultery is an obstacle to human sexuality.

Adultery is evident in this Gospel. Committing this would mean violating God’s commandments. The youth nowadays are exposed with so many sexual obstacles, and temptations are always around them. This is one challenge that the young people are struggling with, and constantly facing everyday. The Revalida topic that is related to this would be “The Obstacles to Chastity.” Adultery is an act that stops us from being chaste and pure. This is because we do not respect our own bodies and give it away to others. This is an obstacle to our human sexuality because sexual desires/urges cannot be controlled by most teenagers. It seems that they are treating sexuality like a “tool” and do everything, out of pleasure and desire. We can learn from the Gospel that our God is a forgiving God. Even if we do these immoral acts, we can still repent to Him, and he would still look at us the same way.
God is always there helping us in anyway he can. The people brought the woman to him to test Jesus and maybe get something to use against him but in the end he showed them that just because of one mistake you get stoned no one is perfect everyone has made a mistake or committed a sin not just because his/her sin is graver or against the 10 commandments it doesn't give you the right to stone her. By throwing stones at her you are committing a sin already. No one is perfect every one makes mistakes we just need to learn from them and not do it again God will continue to protect you and guide you he will never allow anything to happen to us even if we deserve it. This gospel showed me that just because you commit something doesn't give the people the right to punish you only God can do that and even he didn't throw a stone at the woman.

What people tend to forget is that we all sin; we all commit mistakes. Therefore, we are no better than those we blame. Society nowadays can be very judgmental, and can create a heavy impact on one’s opinion of his/herself. Influences of society, whether in real life or social media, sometimes lead to serious issues, including suicide. Unfortunately, these people fail to remember that nobody is perfect; everyone has their flaws. The only one that should have a say on whether we are sinners or not is God.
Job Andre M. Mingoa Junior I
ReplyDeleteThis Gospel is all about Jesus and a woman who committed adultery. In this event, others around them were calling for Him to stone her to death. However, did he attempt to stone her? No, because as we all know, God is forgiving no matter how bad our sins are as long as we ask Him for forgiveness. This gospel focuses on two challenges, namely prejudice and adultery. In terms of prejudice, we all seem to judge books by their covers. This happened to be the case for the adulterer, who was being casted away by the scribes and the Pharisees. However, that must not be the case. Even if one has sinned, there exists such things called second chances and forgiveness, but only at forgiveness is where second chances follow. Adultery is another thing that poses a threat. Though adultery is more of a marriage thing, even non-married people may commit adultery, and that is possible by means of pornography, prostitution, and pre-marital sex. When it comes to married couples, it boils down to chastity and faithfulness. In terms of concepts, this gospel relates to morality and human sexuality. The persecution of the adulterer falls under morality while the sin of the adulterer in and of itself is under human sexuality. As humans created as equals, we have no right to trample on others. This also applies to persecuting them. One must not persecute anyone for his/her undoing. It is not our job to pass judgment. Only God can pass judgment. Under human sexuality, adultery is an issue. There are times when our human sexuality gets the best of us that we end up ending our relationships with other people quickly because of it. An example is when one engages in pre-marital sex. An act like that devoids a person of chastity, and it may prove him/her to be unfaithful to his/her spouse. This gospel implicitly responds to human sexuality by promoting chastity because such a virtue can hold anyone off from adultery. Another thing is fairness. Despite the adulterer being a woman, Jesus treated her fairly unlike how others normally treat women back then: as objects. Thus we must be chaste and treat people despite of sexuality the same as how we want them to treat us.

ReplyDeleteWe are all sinners, so who are we to judge others for their sins? This is the main message of this Sunday's gospel. This challenges us youth to be less judgmental when it comes to people who sin. There are a lot of those who commit pre-marital sex, adultery, prostitution, abortion and other sins, but we have no right to condemn or judge them for what they did. We must try to understand them, forgive them and convert them from their sinful ways. We have to remember that Jesus did not dine with the most righteous. He dined with tax collectors and prostitutes. Jesus in this story forgave the adulterous woman and let her go as long as she avoided committing that sin again. Peter denied Jesus three times but because of His love for Peter, He made Peter the Rock of the Church. Paul was a sinner and a murderer who condemned Christians, but He was changed by Jesus and Paul has become one of the greatest apostles who wrote 13 letter that are now included in the Bible. The ultimate challenge of this gospel is to be like Jesus. Be like Jesus who saw the good in the worst sinners and in the people who betrayed Him. Be like Jesus who had enough love to forgive them. Be like Jesus and change them, convert them to become His apostles. Just be like Jesus and love. In this world today it seems like there's only hatred and everyone is so quick to condemn. As the youth we must be like Jesus and love all of our brothers and sisters in Christ. May they be people who committed adultery or pre-marital sex or prostitution or homosexual acts, may we always love, forgive and understand them just as Jesus did. Don't condemn, just love.

ReplyDeleteThe challenge seen in the gospel is adultery. Our bodily desires and vices can overpower us but we can overcome it because God is stronger. We can relate the gospel with chastity and human sexuality; we have to be the master of our mind and desires. We must see love and making love as a gift and treat it as a holy and scared act. If we abuse it, this becomes lust; but the gospel shows us that God would still forgive us if we repent. That is what makes God so special, He loves simple beings unconditionally even though we keep hurting Him.

ReplyDeleteThis gospel challenges us to be less judgmental of other people. Often times, when we see someone in the wrong, we are quick to condemn them. The passage above reminds us that we, like the woman, sin too. The gospel also shows that just because something is "tradition," doesn't mean it's morally right. In the reading, the crowd puts the blame on the woman and says they must punish her for it was Moses' word. Truthfully, when facing God, who would you follow? A human or our creator? As I was reading this gospel, I was reminded to be more kind and to always do what is right, even if no one else will. Furthermore, on the topic of human sexuality, we can see how adultery refrains us from obtaining "true freedom." Adultery, or giving into our bodily desires, is exactly the thing that God wants us to stay away from and overcome. God challenges us because he knows that we can say no. He has gifted us with good judgment and wisdom to know what is right and wrong. At the end of the passage, Jesus tells the woman that he does not condemn her and forgives her. I think this line is important, as it portrays the Lord as someone forgiving and loving. The woman acted sorry for her sins, and Jesus saw that. In my own opinion, the deepest message of this gospel is to love others and accept other people just as God has accepted the adulterous woman.
Rafael Valenzuela JI
ReplyDeleteThis gospel is about finding what is truly right, to find what is right is not about the law or is about the public opinion on what is right or wrong, it is on what exactly is morally right. It is really difficult to be truly morally right because others will judge you for it, even for a simple thing such as someone telling people to be quiet or keep it down and then people will look at the person as if they are the ones in the wrong. Most of the people don't even know that they are judging the person that is actually doing the right thing, this is where the irony is clearly shown. A clear topic in relation to this would be our moral being, because this is easily lost in this day and age and it would be better if everyone would maintain their moral dignity because day by day achieving that is slowly becoming impossible.

ReplyDeleteThe challenge in everyday life is temptation. Temptation comes in many forms, and without help, we wouldn’t know how to stray away from temptation, neither know what a temptation is. I could relate “chastity" to this gospel, because if everyone is chaste, then there would be no one committing adultery. This gospel is an obstacle to human sexuality in the way, that sexual activities, other than with couples that have gone through holy matrimony is always an obstacle.

ReplyDeleteThe challenges of this gospel in today's society especially to young people like me is basically cheating. People like me are exposed to TV shows that showcases cheating, adultery, divorce and the like. Although we are exposed to such things, it doesn't mean that we should follow it. The fact that divorce and annulment cases are on their all time high at present (with adultery being one of the reasons why these cases happen) shows that we are exposed and somehow find these as a way to escape from our problems with/from our significant other. The youth also sees romantic relationships as happy-go-lucky and something not that serious.
A key concept would definitely be freedom. From what I understand, it is clearly stated that as Christians, we are given freedom to do anything but we have to keep in mind the commandments, laws and teachings of the Lord. Also, as much as possible, avoid sin. We are given the freedom to marry a person from the opposite gender provided that we love each other and stay loyal. This loyalty will surely break once acts like adultery is committed. Also, Jesus said that only the sinless should stone the woman who committed adultery. Stoning can lead to instant death. The commandment says that thou shalt not kill. In general, we do have the freedom to do what we please as long as it is in the right terms and conditions.
This Gospel addresses the obstacles to human sexuality through the obvious fact that this woman committed adultery. We are given the gift of sexuality provided that we only share it to the person we love and married in order to multiply and populate the earth. If you do it and you're married, that breaks the gift of sexuality because you can only share it with one person.

ReplyDeleteWe are surrounded by our brothers and sisters daily who commit sin like everyone else. In the gospel, we learn that we should not be a hypocrite in our actions as to wish to condemn someone without sin for we too are not sinless. Moreover, we are presented again with God's ability to forgive instantaneously. This trait makes the Almighty divine. We are treaded with the quote: "to err is human; to forgive, divine." Our Lord is truly capable of forgiveness and we can derive the assumption that He is truly great and divine.

ReplyDeleteEveryday people are tempted to sin. Whatever it is that they have in mind they either follow or restrain. Now in this gospel the people are also sinning yet they try to bring down the woman who sinned. We shouldnt be like this as we are made to help one another and guide them to the better path. We must forgive the people who have sinned, just like how the Lord forgives us all.
Lance Salmingo JI
ReplyDeleteWe commit sin. As human beings we have free will and we can disobey God which is then a sin. But that does not give us the right to call out the sins of others and punish them for it for Jesus told us to love one another. Jesus surrounded himself with sinners. Jesus has changed the view of people from the old testament to the new testament, to love others and love God. In the gospel, the woman was committing adultery, a sin. A sin that involves ones sexuality. God is forgiving, God is good. We are sinners and God forgives. God is great.

ReplyDeleteeverybody is a sinner and no one really seems to care. In the Gospel, people wants to bring down a woman who committed a sin but then they were also sinners when asked by Jesus. We should treat everybody with fairness because were suppose to do good things to repent our sins. We should forgive people who have sinned because just like Jesus, he forgave all of us to save us.

ReplyDeletein the gospel the woman is the only one convicted of the "crime" when in fact adultery is a to way street. the woman alone is not guilty but as well as the partner she was with. the society looks down upon women who commit adultery and praise men who do. this is wrong. this is very very wrong. we are all equal in the eyes of the lord and therefore we must see all sinners equal despite of race and/or gender. it is not a question of right or wrong it is a question og=f our common humanity.
