4TH GOSPEL REFLECTION TERM 3 JUNIOR-H

4th Sunday of Lent Sunday GospelLK 15:1-3, 11-32
Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus,
but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying,
“This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
So to them Jesus addressed this parable:
“A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father,
‘Father give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’
So the father divided the property between them.
After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings
and set off to a distant country
where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.
When he had freely spent everything,
a severe famine struck that country,
and he found himself in dire need.
So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens
who sent him to his farm to tend the swine.
And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed,
but nobody gave him any.
Coming to his senses he thought,
‘How many of my father’s hired workers
have more than enough food to eat,
but here am I, dying from hunger.
I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him,
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
I no longer deserve to be called your son;
treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’
So he got up and went back to his father.
While he was still a long way off,
his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion.
He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.
His son said to him,
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you;
I no longer deserve to be called your son.’
But his father ordered his servants,
‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him;
put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
Take the fattened calf and slaughter it.
Then let us celebrate with a feast,
because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again;
he was lost, and has been found.’
Then the celebration began.
Now the older son had been out in the field
and, on his way back, as he neared the house,
he heard the sound of music and dancing.
He called one of the servants and asked what this might mean.
The servant said to him,
‘Your brother has returned
and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf
because he has him back safe and sound.’
He became angry,
and when he refused to enter the house,
his father came out and pleaded with him.
He said to his father in reply,
‘Look, all these years I served you
and not once did I disobey your orders;
yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends.
But when your son returns
who swallowed up your property with prostitutes,
for him you slaughter the fattened calf.’
He said to him,
‘My son, you are here with me always;
everything I have is yours.
But now we must celebrate and rejoice,
because your brother was dead and has come to life again;
he was lost and has been found.’”

    "Forgive"

    This gospel talks about how a son who betrayed his family returned home. I feel like the challenges in today's society relate to this in such a way because it is such a big deal and fulfilling feeling to see a person who is influenced negatively and "sinning" a lot come back from that. In the gospel, the young son is us, the sinners. The father is Lord Jesus, who is always willing to take us back into his open arms.

    True freedom can be related to this because since sin is the authentic thing that keeps us from that, when we get back and ask God for forgiveness, we regain our moral dignity again. We must learn from these experiences for us to grow as better followers of Christ.

    Human sexuality can be related to this gospel because honestly, so many people nowadays are destroying the original thoughts of intercourse. Sexual intercourse was given to us by God for us to reproduce and create more children of Christ, but now people just sell their bodies for sex (prostitution) or online media (pornography) and sometimes, just for fun (pre-martial sex). If they realize that what they're doing is wrong and ask God for forgiveness, it'll be just like the father accepting his son into his arms.

    This gospel is very touching because it is about two brother, I can relate to this because I myself have a brother. The problem of this gospel can relate to the young people nowadays because the youth now wants and tries to be independent from their parents. In the gospel the younger son wanted to be independent from his father and he got all of his share of the money for him to go out and do whatever he wants. A revalida topic can be conscience because the younger son chose the wrong thing and did what is wrong rather than doing what is right. Even if he knew what he was doing was wrong he still did it. This is an obstacle because if you do not follow your conscience you will not have a good life with god.

    The gospel is about how a son leaves his home to live a sinful life by throwing away all his inheritance and comes back when he is in need and begs for forgiveness from his father. His father forgives him and throws a celebration, for his son had returned. His older brother, however, was not happy about the news of his father throwing a feast for his younger brother’s return. The father tells the older son that the younger son had come back to them and was willing to repent, and they must celebrate for that.

    I think that the challenge in this gospel that is common among the youth is how the younger son had left his family to live a life of dissipation. I can relate this to the obstacles to human sexuality. This includes prostitution and pornography. The gospel also sends us the message that even after turning away from God and living a life of sin, God will still forgive you if you repent.

    We are all lost sinners wandering the earth with no direction. We tend to mess up everything in our own lives just by ourselves. But God will always love us and help us get back on our feet. He has one of the best kinds of love in the world, and he uses that love to lead us into his home. The gospel talks about a son who lost his way and came back to his father. This tells us that God will welcome us home, his home. This gospel can be related to freedom for it shows how it can be misused by people. We can never be truly free if we have sin. In addition, our human sexuality is being blocked because we can never really be who we are if we can't see through the sins we have. However, God will never forsaken us even though we do sin everyday of our lives.

    In this Gospel, Jesus told the parable of the Prodigal Son. It can be related to situation now, wherein people are so concerned for themselves and want so many material things. It was mentioned in the Gospel that the younger brother spent lots of money on prostitutes, this is an obstacle to chastity and something that we should not give into. Selling your body is a violation, because your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and deserves proper respect.

    We are Relational

    The gospel is about forgiveness, we can see how despite the son going away from home he was still accepted by his family when he returned. We live in a world where there are many broken families and families with issues amongst each other. This is wrong and should be stopped, we are families for the reason of us growing with God and each other and this goes against us and the foundation of our beliefs.

    From the Revalida topics we can relate this with humans as relational beings, we live in a word with constant interaction. We express true freedom when we forgive and respect each other and when we have burdens against each other this goes against us and our freedom. We can say that without forgiveness and without us loving and caring for one another and treating each other with equal respect.

    In regards with human sexuality we are taught to love and care for one another and to treat each other with respect and love. Children are the result of intercourse and we are tasked to bring up Christian families so that for the long run we may continue to spread the word of the lord.

    This gospel tells us one of Jesus’ parables which is that of the Prodigal Son. This story was told by Jesus to the pharisees to make them see that it is not a crime to be among sinners as Jesus is the Son of God. This Gospel represents the Lord’s mercy and love for us. He is like the father in the parable, He will have His arms wide open for us if we are willing to repent for the sins we have committed. In the parable, most of us are just like the prodigal son. We are just like the son, we go astray at some point but we will always find out that God is the answer and that He is there for a reason. There are times in our lives when we tend to stray away from God’s path laid out for us just because we want to do things our own way or simply that we fall into temptation and so then sin against God. Eventually, we realize that we can not go on without God being there to lead us back onto the right way. Like the prodigal son, we have failed the Father in many points in life and the only way to be fully forgiven and “renewed” is to ask for forgiveness. Nowadays, many people think that to do something wrong is not that major. There are many crimes and crises occurring around the globe as seen in the news. The world we live in is not at all perfect. Sin and evil are there to test us and to reel us into the dark side. The society we live in is so drenched in jealousy and selfishness. We must learn to break down such barriers that prevent us from becoming a better nation and a better world. This brings in the topic on Freedom.

    Freedom was given to us from the time man and woman chose to eat the Forbidden Fruit. We were given the freedom to do what we thought was best for us and not for God. This shows that God is not a tyrant if you can say. He gave us the freedom and the conscience to decide the better choices. The Prodigal Son was given freedom to do what he felt like best. This did not suited him well at all. In the end, he wasted everything and he came home penniless and shameful for the sins he had done. Instead of doing what his brother did all those years, he learned the harder way. This happens to us all the time. That is why we sin and we learn and move on from past experiences.

    This gospel just shows how God is willing to accept those who are sorry for doing even the greatest sin. I as a Catholic, see that God is almighty and merciful, but it doesn’t mean we must abuse God’s willingness to forgive us all the time in the end. We must do our best to prevent ourselves from sinning as much as possible for the sake of doing good. That means that all Christians must help others realize that human sexuality is a gift and not just the act of intercourse. We must help educate others and let them realize that our human sexuality is something we should acknowledge.

    Luke's gospel presented above highlights the Parable of the Prodigal Son. It is a simple story about how a father forgave his son despite the fact that he seemed unworthy of forgiveness. It is clear to see that this parable is an analogy where God is to the father, while the son is to His children. It demonstrates the truth that Jesus is preaching about God, that He is merciful and loving towards all of us despite how bad we may seem to be.

    Relating this to our present society, it connects to a person's materialism as well as the potential difficulty of forgiving others. It is a challenge for all of us since we have freedom to do whatever we want, so sometimes we become torn between our decisions and therefore, we may sometimes choose the wrong decision. Thus, the challenge of the gospel is to have the strength and the heart to forgive others and to have self-control, so that we do not end up doing things we may regret.

    Applying this to my Revalida, it is very much relevant to so many topics, but I think that the three dimensions of faith, christian morality, and human dignity apply the most since they demonstrate an example of how one must practice his or her Catholic faith, that consequently respects the person despite his or her flaws.

    On avoiding obstacles to human sexuality, I feel that this gospel presents to us how some people are mistreated and robbed of dignity, as shown through the son having to starve to death while working as a servant. The gospel shows us, however, that there is hope for even the darkest of times, because God is always ready to welcome us back with open arms when we come back to him, as the son was to the father.

    The main challenge in the gospel I read is that we abuse the blessings that are offered to us. That is why in the end, when we have experienced all the consequences of our wrong actions, we still go back to God and ask for more blessings and forgiveness. True freedom can be related to this gospel since the younger son had the freedom to choose whether to go spend all his wealth on useless things or save for his better future. This gospel shows human sexuality though the younger son since he had a number of prostitutes all to himself and he experienced pleasure and lustful acts with these prostitutes.

  10. This gospel is very inspring because it talks about abusing our blessings. We should all learn to love and accept what we have and be thankful. We should not abuse what is given to us and learn that there are many things we still have to learn. I believe that being thankful is the most important thing to do because we are all gifted and unique

    1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?

    The challenges of this gospel is to not abandon God and always remembering that we can always return to him. When we feel like we are well off in life we tend to forget God and abandon him. Nonetheless, God will always accept us and we must remember we can always return to him.

    2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.

    When we speak during the revalida we must not boast and abandon our knowledge. We must be humble and recollect our thoughts. We must not be so complacent and think about what we will say and do.

    3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.

    This gospel can address the obstacles to human chastity by knowing our true sexuality and being true to it. We cannot fall to lies and false truths about our sexuality. We must stick to our sexuality.

    1. The challenges of this gospel to young people is when teens spend most of their parents' money on parties and alcohol. Instead of being good children and grateful for their parents' hardwork they destroy themselves with experimenting with different kinds of drugs and smoke.

    2. Key concepts that can be applied from the revalida are 3 dimensions of faith, Christian morality and human dignity. This is so, because it allows us to practice our faith. It also teaches us to not be boastful but to have humility.

    3. This gospel can address obstacles to human sexuality in terms of prostitution and pornography. It is because even if some people live sinful lives whenever they feel it is time to turn to God he will forgive them.

    The challenge in this gospel is that people tend to forget to go back to God when they had committed a serious mistake. We must understand that just like any father, the love of God to us is far greater and limitless compared to how grave our mistakes and sins are.We must learn to always go back and pray to God because no matter what He will always be there waiting and ready to forgive all of our sins.

    The key concepts of the revalida that can be applied are the ontological and moral dignity of a person, because just like the love of God these two were given to us, but the only difference is one can be taken and regained while the other stays there forever. Just like our relationship with God, his love for us will always be everlasting but our relationship with him can weaken through sinful acts but it could also be strengthened by repenting and doing good deeds.

    3.This gospel addresses obstacles to human society because just like the gospel there would be times in our lives where we would experience these obstacle which could cause us to drift farther from God, but what we should remember during these times are to always pray and repent because God will always be there to accept and guide you towards a better and chaste life.

    We are tempted everyday by greed and money; while we are younger we are also tempted by time. This issue is present in families or even people who are working at 20+ are tempted to do wrong. The youth who are given privilege can go wrong with it at any given time. So many wrongdoings and opportunities are possible at any given time.
    Conscience influences what we perceive as right or wrong. This can go wrong most of the time as the youth looks for opportunities that are more attractive rather than are right. People of the youth usually look for things that feel good, hence the sexual temptations. We should condemn and rather try to open the eyes of the youth in what is wrong and what is right to try to change what we might think and to do better.

    "Now I am Found"
    For me, a main challenge for us humans today is practicing humility. Another is that we build a dependency on earthly treasures such as money, possessions, etc. “After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings and set off to a distant country where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.” Due to how society has such a “consumerism” way of thinking leads us to think that having the best possessions mean having the best life. This is obviously not true because all our possessions here on earth are temporary.
    I can relate this to the different philosophies- view about man, specifically the hedonistic view. The younger son is like us, who can be so easily swayed by pleasure and possessions. However, we must always do a moral check and fix our eyes to our God all the time. Regularly repenting and praying can treat this hedonistic mindset because it means giving your selfish ways up in order to live a God-centered life. We must remember also that God is a forgiving father. Like our ontological dignity, it cannot be taken away. Moreover, nothing can separate us from God reaching out to us.
    I believe that this gospel can raise awareness to abstain from evil or sexual acts, because this is also linked to the hedonistic philosophical views. Sin constantly tries to push us away from Him. Just like the younger brother, he got lost, he was alone, and he was broke. This is our lives when we indulge in our own whim. Our Father tells us: “‘My son, you are here with me always; everything I have is yours. But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’”

  17. In the world we live in today there are many temptations that make us stray away from God, such as money, obstacles to chastity and manymore. God is represented as the father and we are the prodigal son. Just like the prodigal son, we all make mistakes however if we go back and admit that we are wrong then we will be forgiven. God is our Father and He will forgive us as long as we lower our pride and apologize and accept Christ as our Savior then we will be saved.

    1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
    We tend to take things for granted and think that nothing will go wrong. But in this gospel seeing things the wrong way will take you in the wrong direction.
    2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
    The greatest obstacle to our authentic freedom is sin. The son in this story thought that freedom is where he can live alone and using the money given to him by his father. In the end he did things wrong and it wasn't what he thought it would be. Authentic freedom is about doing good and relating with others, and from that we know that this is where true happiness is found.
    3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY. We should accept who we really are and not let outside forces manipulate our own decisions. In the end God will always accept us no matter how sinful we are if we want to go back to his way.

    1. The Gospel shows that we are all equal. In todays soceity some people think they are better than others and must desrve it. But this gospel shows that all are welcomed Especially the lost. And that We must help these lost people. The wolrd is not surivial to the fittest but to help each other. To welcome all
    2. A key concepts i can relate here is True freedom. Because true freedom is doing good and following christ. Like Christ i must welcome all and help all especially those who are lost
    3. IT address obstacles to human sexuality because people think bad about other sexualites or think of it in very lustful manner, Thus there is a seperation. Just like in the Gospel we are all equal thus Every Sexuality is accepted by the Lord and we must too.

    I think that from what I have read in this gospel, we have to learn how to forgive others. No matter what they have done against us, we have to forgive them of their wrongdoings. The problem today I think is Independence. As a teenager myself people my age always want to be with friends as company rather than our own families, and we only realize what we have after it is gone. The topic I would relate this to is freedom. Just because we can do the things we want doesn’t mean we should do them as we have to think if it will benefit us in the long run or will eventually come back and bite us. This can relate to human sexuality as we are given too much freedom. We tend to not mind the object of chastity and we end up breaking it and losing our virginity by engaging in pre-marital sex.

    The father, the older brother, and the prodigal son - in our own little ways we are like all of them. Being like the father in the story means that we are forgiving, compassionate, and we also erase any of our harmful judgment to a person. There are also days where we are the older brother. We are unhappy because even as we work and stay loyal we have no recognition or whatsoever. Lastly, we are also the prodigal son where we choose to be “independent” but we forget the values and responsibility that was bestowed upon us. We go waste our blessings for things that will not fill our hearts. This can relate to today's society due to the fact that we all are either one of these characters or we are all three together. What we should consider is the forgiveness of the father and his unconditional love. In todays generation we ought to look at what the person has committed wrong and instead not look beyond the eyes of the person and see how sorry that person is. We need to learn that when we forgive we make that person feel recognized and loved.

    I can relate this to the revalida topic “freedom from, freedom for, freedom grounded in truth.” We can relate this gospel to this topic due to each character's portrayal. We must abstain from anything that will lead us to do wrong. We must be wise and also act wise. We must choose what is right and learn to live the right way. Never forget about what God has given us.

    The gospel relates to obstacles to human sexuality because like the prodigal son we go out and explore without knowing the consequences. When I say explore it means we abuse the freedom given to us and tend to overlook what God has told us. Nowadays, our chastity is being destroyed by different acts such as watching porn and doing intercourse just for the sake of pleasure. It should not be this way. From this gospel we learn that we shouldn't abuse the freedom given to us instead we should remain wholesome and humble.

    Sometimes, we have our downfalls, especially in our age right now, and in those downfalls, we tend to lose our faith in God from time to time. We sometimes believe that we are not worthy to be called a child of God for we have disappointed Him, but the truth is, God is always read to receive us no matter what we do. We will forever be the children of God and we shouldn't think otherwise. A key concept from the revalida that we can apply here is the dignity of a human being. Sometimes we think we don't deserve being human, but it is a fact that we can never lose our ontological dignity for it proves that we are human and we will always be human no matter what we do. The gospel can address the obstacles to human sexuality by the fact that it says that the young son wasted his father's money on prostitutes. Prostitutes disobey the Word of God for they sell their body to others and disregard the fact that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. They also don't treat human sexuality as a gift and they see sex as something they can do anytime for fun.

    We are all like the prodigy son. We are filled with blessings, love, and care. However, we take them for granted to the point that we abuse it. This truly inspiring gospel teaches us that even the most sinful people can be forgiven because God loves all of us so much. Mistakes, and correcting them, are what makes a person grow into someone with good values and morals in life. We can relate this gospel with our freedom. It is a gift from God, but we can not abuse it. Once we take it for granted, we will forget why God gave us these blessings and it will lose meaning. Praying to God and asking for his forgiveness is will make him understand that we are all not perfect and that we need to learn patience and knowledge to live eternally with him in heaven.

    We are made in the image and likeness of God but we are still imperfect beings. Based on Christian Anthropology man has fallen but redeemed. This means that Everyday we sin against Him and sometimes we stray away from him. However, even though we hurt Him, He still forgives us and opens his arms to us just like what the father did to his son. I believed that our society has many temptations and sometimes it’s hard to resist these temptations but the important thing is that we tried to resist it, regret it afterwards and ask for God’s forgiveness. This gospel shows us that human sexuality is important for us to relate to others. It is a gift which we should use properly because it is a gift from God.

    1.) Forgiveness is a very big and important thing. In this world, people always hold grudges and hatred. We must all learn how to forgive others and make sure to love each and everyone as family. We must never disobey the law of God but even if we do, he is always ready to forgive. That is what we must all learn.

    2.) When we answer the revalida, we must know what we're saying, we can't just randomly say stuff hoping it will be right. We must be sure of our answers and not just blindly answer. We must not be like the younger son and blindly spend our knowledge. We must know it and use it correctly.

    3.) it can be relatable to human chastity. We must always be sure of our choices and it must always be the right choice. In order to be chaste, we must first know what to do and how to do it. We must stay away from material pleasure and stay clear of temptations.

    In the parable, the younger son represents the youth, while the father represents God. Like younger son, the youth stray away from God by falling into temptations and sinning just for their own selfish benefits and pleasures. Yet, this will only worsen their lives even further. Nevertheless, like the father in the parable, God is willing to accept them back, despite what they done.

    With sins and temptations, people are bound to destroy their moral dignity. However, it is still possible to regain moral dignity, as long as the person is alive. This is because God is very forgiving to us, despite any sin we do.

    Even if people still do homosexuality, porn, prostitution, contraceptives, and abortion, which hurts true human sexuality, people may still be forgiven by God. By forgiving them, they may be still able to resolve for their actions and find the true meaning of human sexuality. Thus, it will allow God's plan for them to happen.

    1. The Gospel reflects on forgiveness. I would like to tackle the society as a whole especially this election. Young people shouldn’t be brought up with bad governance. They shouldn’t be taught “separation” or no camaraderie/no brotherhood. This is a country full of revenges. That is why young people tend to be violent.

    2. We must reflect that Man is God’s greatest creation because He made us according to His image and likeness yet He knows we are weak and would fall but He is always ready to forgive. This is what God imparts, “repent and forgive and you shall be forgiven.”

    3. A friend of my mentor is a homosexual since birth, he had indulge to all immoralities. One day, she met up with her friend again, with renewed faith he claimed that all his desire with men and sex, God had removed them and he was very happy and ready to die anytime because he knew he will be in his Father’s home.

    In today's society, we have become too materialistic and are swayed away from our responsibilities as Christians. We are much like the younger son, who would waste God's graces on earthly things . In a sense, it should not be like this because there is more to life than what our money can buy. Money can't buy us our way to heaven, but our values will. The key concept from the revalida that can be linked to this is orthodoxy and orthopraxis, because we need to have the correct understanding of faith and the correct practice in order for us to stay in the path to God, or come back to it if we are strayed away. This gospel addresses the obstacles to human sexuality in a sense that values would be our greatest riches, and not money. If not taken care of, our human sexuality kay succumb to bad values, but just like the younger son, we can still go back and become a chaste person
