4th Sunday of Lent Sunday GospelLK 15:1-3, 11-32
Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus,
but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying,
“This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
So to them Jesus addressed this parable:
“A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father,
‘Father give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’
So the father divided the property between them.
After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings
and set off to a distant country
where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.
When he had freely spent everything,
a severe famine struck that country,
and he found himself in dire need.
So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens
who sent him to his farm to tend the swine.
And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed,
but nobody gave him any.
Coming to his senses he thought,
‘How many of my father’s hired workers
have more than enough food to eat,
but here am I, dying from hunger.
I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him,
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
I no longer deserve to be called your son;
treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’
So he got up and went back to his father.
While he was still a long way off,
his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion.
He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.
His son said to him,
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you;
I no longer deserve to be called your son.’
But his father ordered his servants,
‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him;
put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
Take the fattened calf and slaughter it.
Then let us celebrate with a feast,
because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again;
he was lost, and has been found.’
Then the celebration began.
Now the older son had been out in the field
and, on his way back, as he neared the house,
he heard the sound of music and dancing.
He called one of the servants and asked what this might mean.
The servant said to him,
‘Your brother has returned
and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf
because he has him back safe and sound.’
He became angry,
and when he refused to enter the house,
his father came out and pleaded with him.
He said to his father in reply,
‘Look, all these years I served you
and not once did I disobey your orders;
yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends.
But when your son returns
who swallowed up your property with prostitutes,
for him you slaughter the fattened calf.’
He said to him,
‘My son, you are here with me always;
everything I have is yours.
But now we must celebrate and rejoice,
because your brother was dead and has come to life again;
he was lost and has been found.’”

ReplyDeleteWe live a sinful life and we tend to commit sins against God. Knowing that God is our father and this gospel is about the love of a father to his sons and how he forgives them no matter how bad the sin they committed is. We should always remember that we can talk to our father whenever we need him and he would always be there for us. This gospel can address the obstacles to human sexuality since sexuality is a problem among families and parents should forgive their homosexual children since as parents, they should love their children no matter what.
Camilo De Guzman Junior I
ReplyDeleteThe problem of the both sons are always seen in our youth today. In the first son, the younger son we see how much we want to live our live to the fullest without any care in the world. It makes us seem as if we have full control on ourselves because we get to do whatever we want. We are guilty of this because we have wasted so much of our things, so much of our blessings, and so much of the mercies given by God and have wasted them. It is just like the son who abused everything of his father and ended up without anything. We are just like that, we are going to end up with nothing and we are not going to be able to do anything anymore because we squandered everything we had. We are also like the other brother who always have followed his fathers orders yet was full of jealousy. We sometimes follow the rules of society and do everything right so it makes us boastful. It makes us feel as if we are higher than other people and they do not deserve the same things as we do. It makes us jealous if people treat them the same way they treat us. For God does not, he treats sinners and lovers the same because they have all turned to God. He treats those who go back to Him even greater because they have realized that they need God. We are both brothers all at the same time.
A key concept seen in the revalida in this gospel is that of True Freedom. The younger brother had freedom, freedom to do anything he wanted. He was able to party with people, have sex with anyone, and spend his money for anything and everything. However it is not true freedom for these things are not correct. These things are not smart and are not what God wants us to do. He gave us this freedom to truly express that we want to do what is right and what is good. We want to do what is right for it is right. Being free is not the same as this for true freedom i turning to God and all things in God through all action that we may do.
This gospel talks of how the brother just was free and did was taken by prostitutes and different women. He was having sex with so many women and did not care about anything. This is abusing who you are and abusing your sexuality which is a great gift from God. Through having sex with everyone and abusing our sexuality, it does not let us see ourselves as a gift from God. We lose respect for ourselves and lose respect for others. We see human sexuality as nothing when it is actually a gift from God.

ReplyDeleteThe gospel talks about how the young son was immature, reckless and careless. It shows the reality of some people who live a hedonistic lifestyle just like the yourh we have right now. One topic from the Revalida that
Could be discussed as well here is the Topic of Conscience. Our conscience tells us our thoughts on whether we should do this or that. Right now, the young son's conscience was hindered by his greed and hubris. Commiting sins always have their consequences towards us. This entails to a person facing regret. Some people who disregard their own sexuality for profit can also change just like how the young son had died and had risen again anew.
This gospel showed how much a father loves his sons no matter what much like the lord. The lord loves us and accepts us for whatever we do and we will always end up with him. From experience, no matter what i did wrong, my family would still accept me and love me.

ReplyDeleteIn the story this talks about forgiveness, sin, and morality. First the young brother left and took the fathers riches then soon returned with nothing yet the father still praised him and celebrated for his son returned, this showed forgiveness. This is relevant today because this is what God does, he will always forgive us no matter what as long as we are sorry for our sins. However the older brother stayed with the father and obeyed him but never got praised if he always obeyed his parents. When we do good, we are not necessarily to get rewarded, we are supposed to do good for God and for others. Normally this is how teenagers react because they expect to receive rewards for doing good. For human sexuality, we need our morality because to know that human sexuality is a gift from God. Also this shows that we have freedom to do what we can
This gospel is very similar to that of the story of the woman crying at Jesus' feet. This gospel shows how a father will always forgive and love his children. Exactly as how God treats us, but we should undertand how us sinning less makes us better than those who sin more. We are all equals no matter we have done, what all mattes is the now, how you live your life now. A life of a man livong for God or not.

ReplyDeleteThis can be related to all of us being one thing which is a sinner. We all commit sin in different forms and magnitudes, but there is our Heavenly Father who is always here for us whenever we sin, it is up to us whether we are to go back to him and start anew as better people. In our revalida, this is seen through human morality since this talks about how we are to forgive one another and to care for each other. This also speaks of how we are to treat each other in different situations whether we are to be merciful or not. This Gospel speaks of forgiveness and mercifulness even we are to commit acts such as premarital sex meaning that God is always ready to forgive us as our Heavenly Father.
This gospel showed how much a father loves his sons no matter what much like the lord. The lord loves us and accepts us for whatever we do and we will always end up with him. From experience, no matter what i did wrong, my family would still accept me and love me.
ReplyDeleteThe prodigal son represent us and the father is God. Although we may just do whatever we want without thinking of the consequences of our actions, we end up sinning and go farther from God. But despite this, He would always welcome us back into His love if we just sincerely and humbly ask for forgiveness.
ReplyDeleteJonathan Gonzalez junior I
ReplyDeleteIn today’s world the gospel of the prodigal son is a very impactful gospel, considering that it is about a person who has sinned and was forgiven by his father almost immediately. In today’s world, people think that when they sin, there is no coming back, which is why they feel ashamed to even confess their sins. This causes them to be further and further away from God, and eventually blinding them with the false reality that we can never return to God. This gospel shows that anyone is ready to be forgiven as everyone is equal under the eyes of God. God may not give us all of the exact same things in life, but he will give us individual talents which are the counterparts of whatever another person has. In the revalida, an example is True Freedom, as the son was given money to do whatever he wants, but instead used it for false purposes. He did not think about the fact that the money could’ve been given to him for a total different purpose, which would’ve been the better choice. But just as the gospel goes, there is always a second chance. In sexuality, this also applies because even if we committed a grave sin such as premarital sex, we are still ready to be forgiven by God.

ReplyDeleteThe gospel shows us how loving and forgiving our God is. No mater how much we sin and no matter how much we hurt Him, he still chooses to forgive us. No matter how unworthy we are for His love, He still continues to shower us with the abundance of it. The youth these days are sinful and sometimes take love and forgiveness for granted. One example that we is very evident is the love that our parents have for us. No matter how much or how many times we hurt them, they still choose to forgive us because they love us that much. I can relate this to freedom because yes we are given the freedom to think for ourselves or sometimes even do whatever we want but we should never take advantage of the freedom given to us. We shouldn't do anything that isn't for the better since our freedom is evidence of how much love and respect that our parents, and even more God, has for us. This gospel addresses our problems by encouraging us to do the right thing and no take anything for granted.
Allyssa Aguillo JI
ReplyDeleteThis gospel shows that our Father is letting us live in the world he has given us, but we will learn how to live correctly and how to be more disciplined. In our generation, we do what we want but sometimes they're bad which is wrong. From what I learned in our lesson, Jesus calls us to true freedom. We can be free but we need to follow the set of rules He gave us. No matter what we do, how bad it is, Jesus accepts us for who we are and he believes we can change for the better. Also, the Lord does not care if we have a different sexuality because he accepts us for who we are.
In this gospel, it has proven that God is indeed a forgiving person despite the fact that our mistakes may be considered unforgivable. We tend to do unforgivable doings that not everyone forgives us if we want to but through this passage from the gospel, it has proven that there is still one person who is giving us a chance to prove that we are indeed sorry for what we have done no matter how severe or mild it is.

People tend to take things for granted. They become independent and lose faith as they believe that they already have everything. It is only when they become poor and are left with nothing that they return. I think that a topic we can apply here is Man is fallen but redeemed. Man may commit mistakes and lose faith but they are always given a chance to redeem themselves. Human Sexuality can be applied here is when parents disown their own child. This may be an obstacle but no matter what, they are still a family and they will get through any problem that will come their way.

In the Gospel, the younger son symbolizes the youth who live their life the way they want to, and do not care at all. These are the people who get to do whatever they want. The older brother, on the other hand, symbolizes the people who are full of jealously. They are the ones who are boastful, and look down on others, thinking they are so much better than them. This is not the correct thing to do because even God looks at all of us, whether sinner or not, equally. So, who are we to judge other people? A Revalida concept that can be related to this is “True Freedom.” Since the younger brother could do anything he wanted, he was free to do immoral acts like spending all his money, having sex with different girls, do drugs, party everyday and more. However, this is not true freedom since true freedom is doing good acts, and loving God and others. We can also learn from the Gospel that our sexuality is a gift to us from God, therefore, we must respect is because this is something that makes us who we are; we are able to find our true selves.
The gospel shows that we may lose faith and hope in God but we will soon realize that he is our father and our savior and he will not neglect us and accept us with open arms as long as we love him with our heart and soul. The younger son represents the people who are lost and confused and don’t know that they are turning away from the love and care of a father that will do anything for his children. The father represents God in so many ways he understands the need of his children and gives them everything they need to realize and find the person they truly are and that he will love his children no matter what.

This gospel is a representation of man’s relationship with God, wherein God is the father and we, mankind, are his children. At this age, people tend to be careless with their actions, failing to appreciate everything God gave us. This type of people is symbolized by the younger son. On the other hand, some do appreciate God and what he has given us, and put those in good use. This type of people is symbolized by the older son, who envied his brother for being awarded with a feast for returning. Although these types of people are very different, God welcomes everyone in his kingdom if they repent. Even though we get lost sometimes, we can always find a way back to God through penance, and after this comes a great reward.

ReplyDeleteGospel Reflection #4 Part 1
This gospel is about Jesus responding to the complaints of the Pharisees on Him eating with sinners with the parable of the Prodigal Son. This gospel focuses on two things that pose challenges to us: temptations and envy. Part 1 of the gospel is what's often made known to us since we were children: the part wherein the prodigal son gives in to his temptations as he wastes all of the money he was given to by his father. In a way, each and everyone of us is currently experiencing or has experienced whatever the prodigal son has been through. Though, not all of them parallel what we have done, but the commonality that prevails is the fact that they all came with temptation. Though temptation isn't something new to talk about, it's still a challenge ranging from making white lies to killing the person right next to you, and everyday, we are faced with such. Some of them are easy to fend off, but when conditions come, that's where these things become challenges. It'd be good for us if we managed to overcome them, but there are times that we experience our downfall due to us giving in to them. However, even with our downfall, we still have hope of rising up again, and to obtain that is to go back and ask God for our forgiveness. Meanwhile, the second part focuses on jealousy. This part wasn't really made known, but it is of equal importance as the first part of the gospel. It must be noted that in this part, the older brother grows somewhat envious of his brother because his (the younger) return was celebrated when he (the older) never left the house and worked hard for his father. Like any other parent, God would always welcome back His children with open hearts and help him get back on track instead of making him feel worse about what he had gone through. What's good in this part that the older brother's jealousy did not evolve into envy. In today's society, it runs rampant especially in people who want what they don't have. What's sad is that some of them become envious that they'd end up risking other and themselves just to satisfy it; however, we must be contented with what we have. Like how the master entrusted his servants with different amounts in another parable, we have been blessed with different things, so we must work with what we have despite how much or little do we have. It's not what we get that matters. It's what we do with it that counts.

ReplyDeleteGospel Reflection #4 CN: 25
In terms of concepts, I'd say that both parts have something to do with conscience and freedom. Both parts had challenges of temptation with the second one focusing on envy. When facing temptation, our conscience is our weapon. The fact that it's our weapon is why there are times that we lose to it. As we can recall, even our conscience leads us to sin. That's a limitation of our weapon, but with proper strengthening in the form of prayer, good acts, learning, and understanding what is good, our conscience is strengthened, and we have better chances at defeating the temptations. In terms of sexuality, part one is on temptation in terms of sexuality and part two is on the ninth commandment. Since the first part is on temptations in general, we can also say that we are tempted to do immoral things in relation to sexuality. These can range from pre-marital sex and treating those whose sexuality differs badly to pornography and prostitution. As I said earlier, with a balance of proper counsel, goods acts, and worship, these temptations may prove to be easy to overcome. The second part is on the ninth commandment. There are times when our sexuality drives us to covet others. This especially applies to married couples. Relationships often break because the faithfulness of both either or both spouses are weak. That is why the countermeasure for that is chastity, faithfulness, and true, legitimate love. With these two virtues, the temptations can be easy to handle. Both of these put our freedom at risk, and giving in to these temptations lead us to relinquish others' and even our own freedom. Ergo, we must be taught well in terms of God's Laws, do good, and pray to be able to defend ourselves from such adversaries. However, even with our defeat, God is always there with open arms to welcome us back with him and patch up loose ends.

ReplyDeleteThe Prodigal Son is an amazing story that has one theme: coming home. The Lord reminds us that we will always have a home in Him no matter how far we stray away from Him. He will always love and forgive us, we just have to come back to Him. But this isn't just our coming home story. Ultimately, this gospel challenges us to bring more of our brothers and sisters home to Him. Many people think "oh no I can't go to Mass, God hates me I've sinned too much." But this is wrong. God will always always forgive us and we need to let others know that. It challenges us to help others to repent, be saved and come home to Jesus. They may have committed sins like pre-marital sex or adultery or abortion and they may think these sins are too grave to be forgiven by God. But we always have to tell them and let them understand God will always welcome them back with arms stretched wide ready to embrace them. God rejoices when His lost children come back home ti Him and it is our job to encourage them to come home. God loves, God forgives and God saves. In Him we are found and in Him we are made whole again. God is home for everyone, we can't exclude homosexuals because they too are people. In relation to human sexuality, the gospel challenges us not to judge those who aren't the same sexuality as us and to bring them home as well. God loves each and everyone of us and He welcomes all of us home. We should also be like Him. We should love and welcome everyone no matter who they are. We should always do our best to see Jesus in others and love them like how He loves us. This story is all about love, so let's love. Let's love like how Jesus loves us.

ReplyDeleteWe want to experience true happiness. Everyone wants to leave this world without regrets and sometimes we enjoy too much and forget about who really matters, God. We can apply true freedom to this passage because the younger son chose to live a hedonistic life and to steer away from his father. Then he started to live a miserable life and decided to go back to his father as a servant. When he arrived at his house, he begged his father to take him as a servant but the father just hugged him and rejoiced that his son has returned. God is the father in the story and His people are the younger son and the older son. Let’s face it, were sinners because we’re only human. But God doesn’t care, His love for us will never change. The gospel can also be related to human sexuality. While the younger brother was enjoying his new life, he always had sex with prostitutes and abusing his sexuality. We have to remember that our sexuality is a gift and the act of sexual intercourse is an emotional connection with the person we love and we can only do it with our partner once were married. We have to remain chaste because that is exercising our true freedom.

ReplyDeleteIn this gospel, we can see the different personalities of the youth reflected through the 2 sons. We pray to God when we need something, and once He gives it to us, we run away from Him in the form of not praying anymore. However, once we need something again, we go back to him. This is just a never-ending cycle. We can also be the 2nd son. We tend to envy our brothers and sisters when they get something "better" than what God has given us, and we start to get angry at God. We get so blinded by envy that we tend to forget all the other amazing blessings God has given us. In conclusion, this gospel is saying despite all the imperfections we have, God will always welcome us home.

ReplyDeleteThis gospel presents the challenge to return to God. In today’s society, teens get influenced by vices such as sex and drugs, and eventually turn away from His path. It’s important to remember that God’s doesn’t focus on your past – He doesn’t care about the sins you have committed; all He cares about is that you have come back to Him. This gospel is a heartfelt depiction of how God will always love us, no matter what we’ve done. He will always accept us with open arms when we come back to him. Even if the younger son gave in to temptation and followed the obstacle to true freedom, we are reminded that true freedom is through God. In the older son’s perspective, we see jealousy and anger – that his father has forgiven his sinful brother. This is a very important scene in the gospel because it shows us that human nature forces us to judge others. Just because someone has sinned more than you have, doesn’t make you sinless. In the end, it doesn’t matter what you have done; what matters is that you have the humility to confess and come back to the Lord.

ReplyDeleteThe gospel involves two sons that are morally wrong in different ways, one with unhealthy freedom, and one with and unhealthy view of other people. A simple solution to this is to be humble and accepting. If one were to be humble then there would be less conflict in what would one want to do, being humble shows a large sense of compassion in a person, and acceptance is basically being real and truly knowing the situation that one is in and also understanding the situation of others. It has come to a point where everyone has become very judgemental to each other mostly in the shadows/behind each others backs without really understanding the situation that they are in not only is this done amongst the students but among the teachers as well. We just need a little bit of consideration then we can truly understand how to be humble and accepting.

ReplyDeleteWe are presented wtih the parable of the prodigal son. In this tale of forgiveness, we derive life lessons that apply to the world today. Here, we learn that our sins can be forgiven if we are hearitly sorry for them. Much like second virginity, forgiveness is what makes any of us great. God has the power to give secondary virginity if we engage into premarital sex. Much alike, the parable presents a son who commited sin yet he has received like forgiveness from his father. This gospel serves as a message to all the people the deadly effects of sinning and the Power of God to forgive. Truly, we must learn that the Almighty is divine.

ReplyDeleteThis gospel says that “everyone commits sin” including us, thats why, even when others commit sin towards us, we should learn to forgive them. The revalida topic “theory of tabula rasa” can support the findings of this gospel, wherein everyone can change, which is why we need to learn to forgive, so that eventually they too will learn to forgive. This relates to obstacles of sexuality, given the fact that the man was a homosexual, being a homosexual person is an obstacle to human sexuality.

ReplyDeleteThis is the story of the prodigal son. Clearly, we are in the age wherein we want to try out everything or experiment. Just like the youngest son, we want independence, have all the money and have fun while we're at it. In my opinion, it's really important to have parents or someone who would keep you from doing this because it may ruin our lives at some point. Youth these days are interested in parties, making out and having the time of their lives. What good does these acts do to us and our morality?
I believe that it is more on conscience. I chose conscience as the key concept because it is one's CHOICE to do what's right or wrong. In this case, the youngest son did not do the right thing. As said in the Pinocchio, "Let your conscience be your guide." But, just like the youngest son, it isn't too late to change for the better. There will always be someone to welcome you with open, loving arms even if you did the worst things. This person is God.
I believe that this is an obstacle to human sexuality because we are given the choice to do whatever we want. One of the possible choice and mistake what we may do is pre-marital sex. Once committing this, it already destroys one's chastity. Therefore, having such freedom and choices may cause one to feel like he/she could do anything. One of these actions one may do is pre-marital sex.

ReplyDeleteWe have done a lot of bad deeds but God forgave us and still loves us. This gospel is telling us that we may have done a lot of bad stuff but as long as we ask for forgiveness then God will love us and take us back.This gospel can address the obstacles to human sexuality since sexuality has been a problem between families. No matter what sex you are ,you should know how to love to keep families together.

ReplyDeleteWe can see ourselves as the younger brother or the older brother. The youth is split, those who are the older brother and the younger brother. I myself am an older brother in real life and the character in the parable. The youth feels the urge to go out and be free. The feeling of independence. So they do as the younger brother did in the parable. They set off on a journey with no guide and has been deemed lost. However, people forgive and God forgives. We always have a chance to redeem ourselves. The same goes in the obstacles of human sexuality where we become lost by doing such things. We can come back from them and that time when we come back we have changed to a better person.

ReplyDeletea gospel about a fathers unrequited love for his son despite of his son's ignorance. he has spent all his inheritance on vices and other unwanted things. after he has exhausted his inheritance he went back hesitantly to his father but when he approached the outskirts of his village he saw his father waiting for him at the gate. what does this mean? how can the father know of his son arrival? the answer is he did not. after all this time the father returned to the village gate awaiting his son's return everyday knowing his son would one day return he was ready to welcome his son with open arms despite setting him free with the knowledge of his inevitable return. this is a sign of a father's true love for all his children despite of their flaws. god is the father in this gospel and we are the child who has lost his path. despite all of our sins God will always accept us with open arms 100% of the time. of we choose to return to the gates of heaven God will be waiting for all sinners at the gate of God's village.

ReplyDeleteThis gospel shows two sons and a father. The younger son who asked for his fathers inheritance and once he got it, he left and spent everything. While the eldest, the responsible one who made sure to keep his share and stayed faithful to his father. In today's society, we can be both sons. Sometimes we can just take whatever our parents give us and spend it on things we don't really need. On the other hand, we can be the elder son who is responsible and makes sure that we can save the money we have in case we need something in the future. Moreover, this gospel addresses homosexuality because it showed that the father still accepted the younger son. The father still forgave him. This shows that we should always accept people no matter who they are and what their sexuality is.
