4th Sunday of Lent Sunday GospelLK 15:1-3, 11-32
Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus,
but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying,
“This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
So to them Jesus addressed this parable:
“A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father,
‘Father give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’
So the father divided the property between them.
After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings
and set off to a distant country
where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.
When he had freely spent everything,
a severe famine struck that country,
and he found himself in dire need.
So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens
who sent him to his farm to tend the swine.
And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed,
but nobody gave him any.
Coming to his senses he thought,
‘How many of my father’s hired workers
have more than enough food to eat,
but here am I, dying from hunger.
I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him,
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
I no longer deserve to be called your son;
treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’
So he got up and went back to his father.
While he was still a long way off,
his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion.
He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.
His son said to him,
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you;
I no longer deserve to be called your son.’
But his father ordered his servants,
‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him;
put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
Take the fattened calf and slaughter it.
Then let us celebrate with a feast,
because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again;
he was lost, and has been found.’
Then the celebration began.
Now the older son had been out in the field
and, on his way back, as he neared the house,
he heard the sound of music and dancing.
He called one of the servants and asked what this might mean.
The servant said to him,
‘Your brother has returned
and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf
because he has him back safe and sound.’
He became angry,
and when he refused to enter the house,
his father came out and pleaded with him.
He said to his father in reply,
‘Look, all these years I served you
and not once did I disobey your orders;
yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends.
But when your son returns
who swallowed up your property with prostitutes,
for him you slaughter the fattened calf.’
He said to him,
‘My son, you are here with me always;
everything I have is yours.
But now we must celebrate and rejoice,
because your brother was dead and has come to life again;
he was lost and has been found.’”

ReplyDelete1. The gospel is about the youth wasting the blessing of freedom given to them by God. They tend to abuse their own freedom and God's kindness which leads them to live a life that takes everything for granted. We should be selfless life and be thankful for the things that are given to us and the things that happen to us. We must be make mature and sensible and should always know how to make decisions that will be good for others and not just yourself.
2. I could relate this gospel to Freedom in the New Testament, since it teaches us the meaning of being free, true freedom. For a person to truly regain freedom, he should live a selfless life and always love God and others. The passage shows that the younger son has given up to temptations and became selfless. The younger son then experienced hardships as he continued being selfish. He only started to feel prosperity when he started to follow God by following and doing what true freedom is.
3. As the younger son received his share of the land, he started doing acts that hinder him from loving the people that truly loved him. He started being greedy and not being thankful for the things that was given to him. These kinds of acts are the obstacles of Human Sexuality, since human sexuality is the act of loving others and not being selfish. Being selfish brings you nowhere.

ReplyDelete1. This generation has abandoned God for lives of sin, sex and selfishness, like the son in the Gospel. We've abondoned God and lived lives of sin, but like the son in this Gospel, we can return to him.
2. Many topics in the revalida cover the lesson of this Gospel. We see how freedom is abused, and how sin kept us from true freedom.
3. The gospel tells us that even if we have turned away from God, even if we have been living sexualy immoral lives, we can still return to HIM and let his will be done. There is always a way back to Him.

ReplyDeleteGUIDE QUESTIONS IN WRITING THE GOSPEL REFLECTION:
1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
> I can relate this gospel in today's society but how the youth is challenged to always be grateful. Other than being grateful, the youth must use their blessings to the very best that in a way it benefits more than yourself. One cannot waste them for some other people do not have much blessings. Also, we may be selfish and jealous at some of our loved ones. Hopefully, we do not be greedy and we will always be grateful for whatever God has to offer to us.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
> A key concept that I can best apply this gospel to is true Christian Freedom. Again, we have the choice to do whatever we want, whenever we want to. What separated our freedom to other people's freedom is how we use our Christian believes in relation to the choices we make everyday. We can relate this to the gospel by how we can use our true Christian Freedom to be the best son or daughter of the Heavenly Father.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
> This gospel can address to the obstacles to human sexuality but how we do not take care and use it. There are some who throw themselves away. These are also some who do not respect their human sexuality. I hope people remember that our sexuality is a gift from the lord and we should always be grateful and use it wisely for the better of our world.

1. A challenge present in this gospel is the dealing temptations present around us. Nobody is perfect, and everybody makes mistakes; but we should also remember to draw ourselves towards the fact that we are Children of God, and we must therefore repent and promise to ourselves and to Him that we would never commit to such act again. Yes – many of us may experience various hardships that may lead to us hitting rock bottom, but we should simply be reminded that God will always be with us no matter what and that he will be there to guide us forever in his loving arms.
2. A concept from the revalida topic that can be best applied here is the concept of freedom. One of the only ways to be truly free is by spreading the word of God, living by the ten commandments, and loving your neighbour as yourself. Despite the mistakes that we see our neighbours do, we should always remember the power of forgiveness and that in God’s point of view, he would forgive them instantly.
3. This gospel can address the obstacles to human sexuality because the reading serves as a reminder to us all that we should not be fooled by the temptations around us. Some of us just tend to forget the good deeds that we must commit to and forget about the respect that their human sexuality deserves. Many of us are too misguided with our perspective on how to treat our human sexuality; and this may result to different issues such as prostitution, discrimination, and the like. We should constantly remember that our sexuality is a gift from God and must not be taken for granted.

ReplyDelete1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
-A lot of people, especially the youth, tend to take advantage of our freedom and do whatever we want. Even though some of these things are clearly sins, we still tend to do them just for our selfish gain. We must think of the consequences first before doing anything, in order to avoid regret,
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
-A concept from the Revalida topics that I can apply into this gospel is the concept of conscience. In definition, conscience is basically our guide. It tells us what is right and what is wrong. We can apply it into this gospel because the son was not thinking. He did what was wrong, without thinking about the consequences. We should follow our conscience in order to do what is right in this world.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
-The son spent all his wealth in order to enjoy the finer things in life. We can relate this into the gospel and to the obstacles to human sexuality because a lot of people tend to use their wealth for sexual activities and pleasure. We must not let this take us over. We need to learn that human sexuality is a gift, and must not be toyed with.

1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
> A challenge presented in this gospel that is present in the society is Pride. Many people, especially the youth nowadays, has this problem. They see themselves as higher than others, and their pride influences all their decisions and choices in life. We must always learn to be humble, forgive & forget, & most of all, repent.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
> Christian Anthropology - We must be thankful to God for giving us a chance to experience his world. No matter what we experience, we must be thankful, because without Him, we are nothing.
> Human Sexuality - As we turn away from God to do many immoral acts, we must know that God is always waiting for us.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
> Again, as we turn away from God to do many immoral acts, we must know that God is always waiting for us. We must learn about what we are doing wrong, and we must repent, and promise to do what is right, and what is moral. It is the least we can do to show how thankful we are to God for everything He has done for us.

ReplyDelete1. The gospel is about the youth wasting the blessing of freedom given to them by God. The youth abuses the freedom that God has given to them, they take it for granted. Which is not suppose to be casesince He created us all and we should be thankful for everything we have and everything He has done for us. Also, we should be selfless. Don't always think about yourself, also think about what others think as well.
2. I could relate this gospel to Freedom in the New Testament, because it teaches us true freedom. Freedom is when you do the right thing even if you have both choices, right and wrong. Be selfless and as much as possible, be not tempted to the things that may drift you away from God.
3. As the younger son received his share of the land, he started doing actions that hold him back from loving the people that truly loved him. He strated changing, and being greedy. He only thought about himself and not about what others felt towards all his actions.

1.) In society, it is hard for others to face the ones they have hurt and to apologize to them. However, we have to remember that God has already forgiven us and will continue to take us back and will never forsake us.
2.) Freedom and conscience are evident in this gospel. The gospel talks about the misuse of the son’s freedom. Though he was able to get his inheritance from his father, he still shouldn't have gotten his money. The gospel focuses on the prodigal son’s repentance. Though he had left, he came back to his father and apologized for leaving.
3.) When encountering obstacles with human sexuality, it is important for us to face our sins. Though it is hard, we have to find the strength to come back and be strong just as the son came back to his father.

ReplyDelete1. The challenges today that is seen in today's gospel is how people commit sin yet the Lord still accepts and forgives us. Another challenge is temptation. In present time, it is clearly seen that everyone commits sin and falls into temptation. What God wants us to know is that even when we commit sin, he will still accept us for who we are regardless of our actions.
2. A topic that can be seen in the revalida and today's gospel is conscience. The gospel shows that the son chose to waste all the father's inheritances on sinful ways.
3. We humans are not perfect. We fall into temptation at times and it can be through our human sexuality or our sexual lives. We should have the conscience to know what is morally good and if we do sin, we should always be sorry and repent for our sins.

ReplyDeleteGUIDE QUESTIONS IN WRITING THE GOSPEL REFLECTION:
1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
In society these days, people tend to go in the wrong paths and commit bad mistakes and realize that those mistakes have turned them from good to bad they want more cus it's a pleasure doing those things in their perspective, but once they fully realized that it's really bad doing those stuff they will repent and doing good. Basically like in the gospel they were lost but have been found.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.

3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
This gospel addresses the obstacles to human sexuality because people will commit wrong doings sometime in their life like in their sexuality, by abusing it and taking advantage of it for the pleasure of it, And once it's done they will feel sorry about it and repent about it

ReplyDelete1) The gospel tell us to simply change and to repent. This is so we can become better people, not only that but through change and repentance we can renew our relationship with God and even get closer to Him.,
2) Christian Morality, since it teaches us to refrain from sin. We do not simply as for forgiveness to God, but we must also repent, as Christians/Catholics we must always do our best to not only do good but also make a big difference.
3) It is important for us to face our sins, since we can learn from our mistakes, refrain from doing it again, and to not make the same mistake again. Though it is tempting to sin, we must always do our best to refrain from doing these acts, because we know that if we sacrifice and repent one day we will be rewarded for it.

3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
The gospel tells us to not abuse anything we have. Everything we have right now is a gift from God and we should know how to use it properly
1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
ReplyDelete- A challenge of this gospel to the youth is to use our freedom wisely. God gave us the freewill to do what we please but we should also be responsible for our actions. We need to know what’s right and wrong.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
- A concept would be conscience because our conscience helps us in hard situations wherein we don’t know what to do. It is applicable to this gospel because the son was ignorant about the consequences his actions would lead to. We should be aware of our conscience to do better.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
- This gospel addresses the obstacles to human sexuality by showing how the son was wrongfully spending his wealth on immoral things. When people are rich, they tend to spend a lot on things they don’t need, including sexual acts. We must learn to overcome this obstacle because our sexuality is something to be valued.

ReplyDelete1. This gospel talks about how we should repent our sins and return to God for He will always be ready to forgive us.
2. Christian Morality because this is the best topic that teaches us how to avoid sins and at the same time ask God for mercy so that we may be able to enter His kingdom someday.
3. This topic can address the the obstacles to human sexuality by following God because He is always right and will never be wrong. He will be the one to lead us to the correct path and the only thing we humans have to do is to avoid sins and follow God.

ReplyDelete1. Nowadays, we have been divulging ourselves in acts that go against so many of Gods teachings. Just like the young son, we have been sinning and going against the teachings of our Father. But just like him, we can still change ourselves and go back to Him and His teachings to a path of enlightenment. We must follow the young son by realizing the sins we had committed and do everything in our power to repent for them.
2. A key concept that can be clearly seen being tested in this gospel is the conscience. Our conscience is what tells us what is morally right and morally wrong. Just like in the the gospel, the young son had stopped and truly listened to his conscience which has been saying over and over again that what he is doing is hurting himself and the people dear to him. As his conscience, it also advises him to make amends with the people he had hurt, for that is what is morally right.
3. The obstacles of human sexuality are mostly of the discrimination that we consciously or unconsciously do to other people. This gospel helps address this problem because it reminds us that it is not too late to change ourselves into better people, people who instead of hurting others can heal them and help them become better.

ReplyDelete1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
Forgiveness, Jesus spoke of a parable, of how we must rejoice because one of whom used to be lost was now found. It teaches us it's never too late for God's love and it's never too late for us to be with God, because God looks above ones flaws.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
Conscience is our guide to knowing what is right or wrong, this Gospel showed us how the younger son was willing to throw away his pride just so that he could make a living. He felt no need to be given all that he had just because he was related by blood.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
We must forgive those who persecute us, We must learn from the wrongs that happened to us. We must use these as learning opportunities, not be boastful, we must forgive as we are forgiven.

ReplyDelete1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
✶ This gospel is about the youth using their freedom unwisely Abandoning God for a world of sin and pleasure, selfishly.
2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
✶ A topic from the revalida that may be relevant here is the topic of advantages and disadvantages of legalising prostitution because legalising this my be a cause of the youth abandoning God, their faith and their morals.
3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
✶ This Gospel can address it because it teaches us that even if we lose our way, or turn away from the Lord, there is always going to be a way to find yourself back to Him.

ReplyDelete1. The challenge in this gospel was the challenge that the loyal son and the prodigal son had faced. The loyal son faced the challenge of jealousy towards the other son because according to him, he deserves to be celebrated more due to his allegiance to his father. The prodigal son faced the challenge of being lost—in life and in his relationship with God. Many young people are either the loyal son or the prodigal son. The youth are often too conscious of themselves and their status to remember being faithful to Him. Besides this, they often feel as if they need a reward for every good deed they do.
2. A key concept from the Revalida topics that can be applied in this gospel is "Sin: The Greatest Obstacle to Authentic Freedom". The prodigal son started to lose himself when he gave in to temptations. In the duration of the time he spent away from his home, he had spent it all on sinful activities and built himself a life of dissipation. He focused on material things and things that don't really matter. When all of his riches had vanished, only then he realized that what he had been doing the whole time was a grave mistake.
3. This gospel addresses the fact that we must never use our human sexuality to cause harm. We must never use it to bring about harm to ourselves and other people. Doing so could not only ruin our physical selves, but also our spiritual relationship with God. To overcome this obstacle, we must continue using our clear conscience, another blessing given to us by God, to help ourselves determine what we should and should not do.

The pride of today's society makes us forget how to ask for forgiveness. We tend to think that sin is normal and forget to humble ourselves and realize our wrongs. With this, sin is then easily propagated to the world. We've abandoned our God but there is still hope in us to return to him just as the son did to his father.
The son returned to his father just as how we sinners can with our God with correct views on faith. Good understanding (orthodoxy) and good practice (orthopraxy) in accordance to moral actions, prayer and worship and knowledge of the doctrines, we are able to maintain our faith. We do not lose our faith to sin. The sin in the world is a great hindrance to a true freedom from and for God.
The son realized his wrongs just as how we must realize our wrongs in our views on sexuality. Prostitution, pornography and the acts of pleasure must be removed from our lifestyles and instead, come back to God for forgiveness.
