GOSPEL #2 TERM 3 JUNIOR-G

2nd Sunday of Lent Sunday Gospel LK 9:28B-36

Jesus took Peter, John, and James
and went up the mountain to pray.
While he was praying his face changed in appearance
and his clothing became dazzling white.
And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus
that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep,
but becoming fully awake,
they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus,
“Master, it is good that we are here;
let us make three tents,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
But he did not know what he was saying.
While he was still speaking,
a cloud came and cast a shadow over them,
and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”
After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.
They fell silent and did not at that time
tell anyone what they had seen.

    1. A challenge to our current generation that you could get from this gospel, I think would be how uncaring some people are now in regards to religion. (The complete opposite of what is shown in this gospel)
Reason being, most people nowadays simply see practicing their religion as more of a hassle than anything else.
Or they simply could care less about it.

    2. With such an amazing scene that unfolded in this particular gospel, I would say the concept that Jesus leads us to true freedom (freedom from the harmful elements of our world, freedom to become truly caring people and so forth) would apply here.
Further supported in the gospel itself, with God sending a message to the three apostles, that Jesus is his chosen son and as such, they should listen to him.

    3. In relation to the various obstacles to human sexuality, I could say that this gospel is telling us to follow and listen to Jesus, as to avoid such obstacles or to resist the temptation of partaking in things like premarital sex and so forth.

    1. A challenge to our current generation is related to religion. Many people don't care enough to practice their religion nowadays because of other pointless matters.

    2. I think the concept of freedom applies here as they are given the freedom to witness and worship God, and in the gospel it is shown when God says that Jesus is his Son and that they should listen to him.

    3. The gospel is telling us to listen to God's teachings, which include rules such as "Thou shalt not commit adultery", etc.

Today, we face different challenges everyday but most of the people face serious problems like discrimination wherein implications of inequality are very evident. Additionally, there are still some parts of the world where they experience pain and anxiety just because they're different. They feel different in ways like they have a different colour of their skin, their abilities aren't as swell as others and many more. These actions lead to a pang of inequality across all nations. In relation to the revalida that had occurred, I seem to have noticed that the concepts on Christian morality this is since we have to treat others with kindness through Biblical scriptures of Christ. This can be related to human sexuality in a way where we all deserve respect. Everyone deserves to be valued as a person because we are all created equally by God, Himself.

In today's society, we are overwhelmed with development and abundance in technology. We never really take the time to listen and understand what we're being told—we just simply hear it. So for this gospel, we are challenged to take up our cross and follow Jesus. We are called to listen to Him. He is, like one of our key concepts for the Revalida, true freedom. By living out the New Testament and revolutionizing what God's laws and what being a Christian means, it is through Jesus where we achieve true freedom. He is our Saviour and Redeemer. Relating this to the obstacles to human sexuality, we must follow Jesus' example and be sincere in everything we do, so that we can live in chastity and fully appreciate the gift of sexuality that God has given to us.

Something big is going to happen when Jesus goes to a mountain – beatitudes, this scene, the ascension. Like the political leader going to the podium. So this is a very important scene. For him and for them. They weren’t brought there for nothing.

He wanted to show them who he is and his mission. Jesus knew he was loved by his father, this made him radiant. He knew the voice of God was right, claiming him as his son.

This was for them, that they would listen to him. First moment of the Christian disciple is to listen. Not even to look – can’t spend the day in the tent in adoration. A very good prayer is praying with the word of God and then we go to our world.

Key concepts include being Christian and just believing in Christ's plan for us. It essential that we understand that God wouldn't give us any burdens we can't handle. Just trust in His will and you will go further than your expectations.

Of course, people are hindered by lack of faith. People sometimes use sexuality to rebel against God. This is why one must understand that God is there for you, so that the idea of Him not being there will be abolished.

In this gospel, it demonstrates the carelessness and lack of attention of Jesus’ disciples during a significant event that took place. This can be related to the failure of us, Catholics, in being a religious and spiritual follower of God. Sometimes, we are too busy to even pray each day or attend mass every Sunday. This causes us to be distracted and turn away from our Lord. In this case, we disconnect and weaken our relationship with God because we are too occupied or invested in other things.

I can apply the concepts of freedom and conscience in this gospel. Freedom is defined as the power to act, speak, or think as one wants. While, conscience is a person’s moral sense of what is right and wrong. These concepts go hand in hand with each other. According to the gospel, Jesus’ disciples fell asleep during the significant event that took place on the mountain. Jesus’ followers had the freedom to choose the right thing, which was to stay awake and be a a good disciple. However, they chose to let sleep overcome them.

This gospel shows the amount of freedom we have and the gift of conscience in every decision we make. We can address the obstacles to human sexuality such as pre-marital sex. Nowadays, it is considered as a norm to participate in sexual activities before marriage. With these God-given gifts, we would be able to freely make the moral decision to abstain from pre-marital sex.

    1] PITCH YOUR TENTS ELSEWHERE.
It's not everyday that the disciples encounter Jesus being transfigured before their eyes. They were scared, and they didn't know what to do, so their instinct was to stop and pitch their tents. But Jesus, not minding them, continued on his journey to transfiguration.

That is our problem. When we are faced with problems, we resort to "pitching our tents" while Jesus wants us to go on. Jesus tells us to keep going and to not "pitch our tents" and rest when something big is about to happen.

2] AWAKE, THE GLORY IS NEAR.
Peter and the other disciples were overcome by sleep in an important time in the plan of Jesus. Though the climb is tough, we should use our freedom to fight for what we need to fight for. Sleep doesn't necessarily mean literal sleep. It can mean oppressions, doubts, and fears. We use our freedom to fight against this! The Glory of God is near.

    3] THE FIGHT IS TOUGH.
Influences of sex, prostitution are everywhere. Unavoidable at times, but we get the grace from God. God does not make our challenges easier, he makes us stronger. In fighting these obstacles to chastity, God provides us with grace and strength.

This Gospel tells us to keep going, to stay awake, and to dwell in God's grace and strength as the challenges get harder.

The Gospel relates to the way that some people are more on hearing instead of listening, as John and James heard Jesus’ words but didn’t listen to him until the Lord told them to do so. This shows that we should listen to things wholeheartedly with our conscience helping us determine the right from the wrong, which is part of being a moral Christian. This relates to the obstacles of human sexuality as temptations can cause us to commit wrong deeds, or if with human sexuality in general, it should be about respecting each other like one should respect others’ sexuality.

    1. In our situation today, young people like me find themselves busy and preoccupied with so many things—schoolwork, relationships and other activities that often make us forget why we do these things and how we were able to perform these things in the first place. The challenges in this gospel prove that our lives are filled distractions and disturbances. Like the Peter, John and James when they accompanied Jesus to the mountain, they fell asleep instead of continuing their prayer.
    2. The key concept that we can apply from the revalida is exercising our Christian conscience. Our conscience guides us to making the right decisions and doing the right actions in order to live a path toward Christianity.
    3. This gospel can address obstacles to human sexuality because it focuses on our formation as humans and as followers of Jesus Christ. Our human sexuality is a gift given to us by God that we must not take for granted. This can be related to the gospel because we are surrpimded with temptations every second of the day, but with Jesus Christ by our side and in our hearts, we will overcome all obstacles.

In the gospel today, we see how Jesus challenges us. We are being challenged to reflect God's shine. In modern times, it may be hard to be a good role model; however, we should accept this challenge and face life as it is. Little sacrifices go a long way.

There is a lot of doubt present in our society regarding religion and God Himself. True Freedom are the things that prevent us from attaining peace, freedom and prosperity within. There are internal and external obstacles we face. In this Gospel, the internal obstacle is doubt. This can also be related in sexuality though the denial of acceptance of your sexuality.

A challenge faced by the current generation is religion. Many people often neglect, disregard, and forget to practice their religion because they are too busy being caught up with other things in their lives.

The concept from the revalida related to the gospel would be freedom because everyone is given the freedom to do what we want to do, who we want to listen to, and what we want to say to others. We are given the freedom to accept God and worship him and spread out His word to those around us. It is shown in the gospel when God says that Jesus is his Son and that they should listen to him.

The gospel is telling us to apply God’s word and spread it to others around us. It is telling us to live by the commandment "Thou shalt not commit adultery” and others.

  14. We teenagers aren’t exposed to religion in the way they would find it interesting. For them to know who Jesus Christ is, is actually a challenge for them to discover Him. We should be driven to knowing Him, but there are many obstacles that hinder us from knowing who He actually is to us. If we are taught who Jesus Christ is in a manner that will actually make us interested, we wouldn’t have a problem of finding God driven people. Society gives a different perspective on religion, we need to break those labels.

A concept discussed in the gospel is Jesus calls us to true freedom. We need not to be afraid of the obstacles we might face, for He is the only one we need in our lives. Without God we are nothing, and God is freedom, so we don’t have true freedom without Him. He is our source of freedom.

Basically, we may seek Jesus Christ when faced in different obstacles in life. Not only will He be there when your at a low point in your life but at the high points as well, then you go and worship Him, for He made everything in life possible for your plan to go as He knows. You also need to trust in His plans. Like in your human sexuality, you may seek Him and ask what the right thing to do. Jeremiah 29:11

This gospel can address human sexuality since it helps us know what we could get our self into before we do something. Nowadays, there are more and more people that judge others quickly without even knowing the situation one person is going through. People also sometimes misinterpret the actions of others for something bad when it is not. We can apply Orthodoxy and Orthopraxis to this problem since we should know the proper practice and knowledge of faith. If we do not know how to use these we will have a hard time fixing problems in life.

In this gospel calls us to follow His son, Jesus Christ. One of the many challenges that the gospel faces in society is that we do not respond to God’s call. We sometimes forget that God is always there waiting for us but we ignore Him. We are faced with so many issues and problems that we forget to turn to God. Most of the youth today would choose to ignore the call of God because they feel as if they will not gain anything from it but in this gospel it shows that we should follow Jesus Christ.

I can relate this gospel with the topic of freedom. God has given us the freedom to choose whether or not to follow Him. He gave us the free will to decide for ourselves and He would always be there waiting for us. We should use our freedom correctly and decide

This gospel shows why we have to cherish our human sexuality. It shows why we shouldn’t be distracted by the obstacles of human sexuality through answering God’s call we must learn to abstain and protect our sexuality. By answering God’s call we are saying that we will not commit and adulterous acts or anything else that will harm our sexuality.

    1. A challenge to our generation today is that we tend to forget about religion. We must always know how to cherish our relationship with God. Sometimes even if we go to mass, it's only being like a routine and we do not really know the real meaning of going to mass. We must first understand how important God is in our lives and we must use this knowledge to spread His word to other people. We must always listen to God's word.
    2. I believe that the concept of freedom applies to this gospel because we were given free will and the ability to choose. This shows that God trusts us and he gave us freedom to choose whether to follow him or not. We were given choices to worship Him or not to, therefore, should also know that God sent Jesus to us. We should always know how to follow Jesus because he is God's son.
    3. We should listen to God's teachings and this gospel teaches us how to follow Jesus. Jesus is our guide and He is our light therefore we must know how to overcome the problems we face in life and that includes the temptations of sexuality.

This gospel applies in society as the mistake of silence. The apostles failed to share what happened and did not speak out what happened which thus failed to let other people see the glory of God that has occurred. Our generation fails to see what God's glory lies on how important it applies to our lives. What this teaches us can also be found in Hebrews 2:12 which tells basically tells us to fix our eyes on Jesus and His glory that will save us. I believe in relation to the revalida a great topic to mix this with is Freedom and Conscience as these two are closely related with having to choose what is best for us. Freedom because we are free to choose to do what is good and right and conscience because this gift from God should guide us towards seeking that goodness and following it to do even better and to even pass it forward. This Gospel isn't direct to human sexuality although it teaches us to do what Jesus would do and that is to keep ourselves clean for the time being as it is what is what we should do, it is what God would want us to do and it is what is correct.

    1. We find ourselves overwhelmed with all the problems that life hands us. Whether it relates to our education or personal lives, we often forget who it was who blessed us with the gift of life in the first place. This therefore tells us that despite the challenges we face, we must remember that He will always be there in our time in need and in return, we must remember who is most important in our lives.

    2. Our conscience is a concept that can be applied to this gospel because despite the problems and distractions in our lives, we must remember that it is our first obligation to put God first.

    3. Human sexuality is a gift from that God that we must never overlook. Temptation is something that we will encounter in the future, but with the constant guidance from God, we can overcome it.

The challenges in this gospel that is present in today’s society is when teenagers neglect their religion and forget their duties as followers of God. We are often distracted with many things such as technology, school, friends, etc. that we are unable to fulfil our tasks as stewards of Christ. This then weakens our relationship with God and deters our faith.

Freedom and conscience are depicted in this gospel as we have the power to speak, act, and think how we want, and the sense of choosing right from wrong. It is our own choice whether or not to remain faithful with God and let go of all the distractions and useless things in our life. It is our job as disciples to make the right decision.

In relation to human sexuality, it is in our conscience and freedom whether or not we will decide to engage in sexual acts or wait until marriage. It is our choice whether we will live a life of chastity and view our sexuality as something sacred.

    1. I think that the challenges of this gospel in today’s society is our religion because we tend to forget and thank God for everything. It is him who guides and helps us in life and without him we would be nothing. We must always cherish and thank God for the blessings he has given us and we should give it back to him simply by being moral.

    2. Freedom can be applied here because we are freely capable of doing anything we want. But we should always remember who gave us this freedom and we should thank him every day for this gift he gave to us.

    3. We face different challenges and temptation in our human sexuality and our conscience will help us because we know that it is not moral. God will always guide us and accept us no matter what we do as long as we confess and repent for our sins.

    1. One challenge that the youth face when it comes to religion is the drive to serve and believe in God. They are blind to the words of the one true God and stray from the truth because of false ideas from peers and social media. They fail to understand that the best thing you can do in life is not only to serve yourself by attaining happiness, but to attain happiness through serving others with faith in God.
    2. Some key concepts from the Revalida that I can apply here are the freedom and conscience of a human being. We were all given freedom by God, it is our duty to preserve that and protect the freedom of others. Though, it is our choice if we are going to do good or bad with our freedom. That is where conscience comes in. Through our conscience, we remember to put God first aside from our personal wants and desires.
    3. Through proper understanding of the message of this gospel, we are able to face the different challenges of human sexuality to one person. By having freedom and a good conscience, we can tell what's wrong from what's right. When we doubt ourselves whether or not we should do something, we we will know what to do through the proper use of freedom and our conscience.

    1. The problem seen in the Gospel is that when they saw a miracle of God, they didn't react and spread it. This is seen in the society when we when listen to the Gospel and yet we don't live out on what we learn.

    2. The best concept I could apply here would be of Christian Morality, which is seen when we listen and uphold the teachings of Jesus to us.

    3. From reading the Gospel, this can address the obstacles of Human Sexuality because God said here that we have to listen to His son, Jesus. Jesus would want us to follow and be true to commandments so we shouldn't go against them.

    1. In this Gospel there was a situation where in a miracle was made although there was no reaction from the people that saw it which related to us now, being teenagers and having so much thing going around and so much distractions we can sometimes pay attention to the wrong things and to lack focus on something as well.

    2. some key concepts that can be applied from the revalida would be our conscience and christian morality because these two concepts can guide us and help us with decisions that we are undecided with and to help us make a better path for ourselves.

    3. This gospel can address the different obstacles from our human sexuality because it's main point is the focus on our formation as the children of God and followers of Christ. There are so much temptations in our everyday lives and the only way we can choose to do the right thing is when we reach out to the Lord and when we follow our conscience.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Piero Dominguez JG

The problem is they didn't react or spread it. This problem is seen today because people hear the word of the Lord yet they don't share it. The word of the Lord is meant to be heard by al and shared to anyone.

One of the topics in the revalida I can apply here is freedom. We have the freedom to share the words of God yet some of us choose not to.

To deal with homosexuality we must listen to God and not go against his will.

    1. A challenge to today's society is the everyday phenomena we just choose to keep to ourselves. There are great and mysterious things that happen in this world, some of which we people just choose to keep inside, to keep to ourselves. This is just like in the gospel.

    2. A revalida concept you can apply here is the prostitution and the use of contraceptives. These are things that happen everyday, things that we might see so often. Although, we know this is wrong, but we allow it to happen anyway, we allow such illegal things to slide, to continue.

    3. In regards to human sexuality, the gospel tells us to listen to Him, to the chosen one. Thus, the obstacle of human sexuality must be tackled with the guidance and knowledge of Jesus

    1. A challenge to todays society is that we don’t care much about religion these days and we should learn from this gospel that we should care about religion as faith is good for us and for us to maintain our relationship with God.
    2. A concept that would be applicable would be the concept for freedom as we are children of God and we have the freedom of choice to do the right or wrong thing and we should be grateful for that gift from God.
    3. Since God teaches us to be chaste we have to follow his commandments and we should stay pure in order for our relationship with God to stay healthy

In the gospel, I believe that a challenge that you could get off the gospel would be how uncaring and disrespectful people could be towards religion.
I believe the concept of freedom is applied here as they were given the choice/freedom to praise The Lord, and in the gospel it is shown that Jesus is His only Son and they should listen to his word.
The gospel is telling us that we should be obedient to The Lord we shall be saved from our sins.
