3RD GOSPEL TERM 3 JUNIOR-E

3rd Sunday of Lent Sunday GospelLK 13:1-9
Some people told Jesus about the Galileans
whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices.
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way
they were greater sinners than all other Galileans?
By no means!
But I tell you, if you do not repent,
you will all perish as they did!
Or those eighteen people who were killed
when the tower at Siloam fell on them—
do you think they were more guilty
than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem?
By no means!
But I tell you, if you do not repent,
you will all perish as they did!”
And he told them this parable:
“There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard,
and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none,
he said to the gardener,
‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree
but have found none.
So cut it down.
Why should it exhaust the soil?’
He said to him in reply,
‘Sir, leave it for this year also,
and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it;
it may bear fruit in the future.
If not you can cut it down.’”

GUIDE QUESTIONS IN WRITING THE GOSPEL REFLECTION:

    1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?

The gospel shows us the importance of the sacrament of reconciliation. When we sin no matter how small or big the sin, we have to repent. Repentance is a step closer to God and a step closer to healing. The gospel also speaks about "bearing fruit". For the youth like me "bearing fruit" would be doing good deeds and spreading the word of God. The soil is the word of God, Christ is the vine and we are the branches. Branches (or people) who do not bear good fruit will be cut. We should always take what we learn form mass or CL and apply in our lives.

    2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.

We can relate this to the topic of Human Sexuality. Sex should be done as a sign of love between a man and a woman resulting to a child. In this situation the child is the fruit that God wants married couples to bring to life.

    Genesis 1:27-28 ESV

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

    3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.

Sex is beyond pleasure, sexual intercourse is for creating life. Abortion and contraception hinder life, that is why the Church is against it. We were commanded to go out and bear fruit with our spouse after marriage.

    1. The gospel today tells us that reconciliation in our life is very important because through this we are able to ask for forgiveness from God for the sins we have committed against him.

    2. The topic that I can relate to here is the topic of Human Sexuality since we are taught that our sexuality is a gift from God and sex is done due to the love of a man and woman for each other and the child is the bearing fruit.

    3. This topic can overcome the obstacles to chastity in a way that we must follow what God ordered us to do which is to bear life into this earth and cherish it as well.

    1. The Gospel emphasizes the importance of forgiveness and patience in our lives. In the modern society, forgiveness must be something that is earned, but it was taught in this Gospel as well as in previous Scriptures that forgiveness must freely be given, since everyone is deserving of reconciliation.

    2. We may be able to apply the concept of Human Sexuality to the Gospel because it talks of the relationship between two people wherein love develops. With this love and the foundation that is marriage, a child may be born into this world, and this child is the fruit which would grow and play an important role one day.

    3. Because of how media depicts sexual intercourses, the act of love has become commercialized and its importance has been belittled. There are many obstacles which lead others away from the true purpose of human sexuality which is to reproduce, and leads them towards the misconceptions which present human sexuality as something for pleasure alone.

    1. This gospel is all about forgiveness. It tells us to repent for the sins we have committed and to have humility. Because of this, we could ask God for mercy and may be free from sin.
    2. A topic that I could relate this gospel is Human Sexuality. Human Sexuality is the attraction of a man to a woman. As the attraction grows and develops, they slowly become in love, which would bear a child that is the fruit.
    3. The main goal of human sexuality is to procreate and bear a fruit. Acts like prostitution and pornography that hinders us from reproducing and multiplying is considered as an obstacle to Human sexuality due to the fact that they do sexual acts for pleasure alone.

  7. 1.) The gospel talks about forgiveness. This talks about how one should have humility, it is important to know how to ask for forgiveness and not do it again. With doing this we can grow closer to God.
2.) We can relate this topic to Human Sexuality because it talks about a relationship between two people. As relationship grows deeper and attraction becomes stronger, love begins and eventually the two people will become bonded over marriage.
3.) Human sexuality teaches us that having sex is gift from God and we are made to procreate and reproduce. With what the media depicts, the act of sex is shown wrong and that we forget the true meaning of sex

    1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
The gospel wants to reiterate that reconciliation is essential for us to maintain a strong and healthy relationship with God. This is the only way for us to repair the bridge, that we destroy every time we commit sin, that connects us with God.

    2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
Human Sexuality can be best related to this because most of the people tend to take Human Sexuality for granted. A lot of obstacles are also presented in Human sexuality like Porn, Prostitution, etc. All these sins will be forgiven if we just go to confession.
    3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
This gospel can overcome the obstacles because even if we do these obstacles God will still forgive us if we do the act of reconciliation.

  9. 1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
The gospel tells us that no matter how bad our sins are; we should not compare them with other people because what matters is if we repent them or not. It teaches that, everyone should be given a second chance the same way as God forgives us.
    2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
We can relate the topic of human sexuality because God gave us this gift therefore we should keep it sacred. God has created a man and a woman so that they may produce the future children of God however, sex should only be done through commitment and love and nothing more.
    3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.
This gospel can address the problems on human sexuality through is by knowing the true purpose of human sexuality. It tells us that we should bear fruit and procreate in order to bear more children of God.

    1. This gospel tells us about society and it's mistakes, because we are all different in society and make different mistakes. Though it teaches us to be forgiving to all, because everyone deserves forgiveness. Only God can say what's right or wrong, so we should always forgive.

    2. We can relate this to human sexuality. Most of the time society makes mistakes with their human sexuality, like how we mistreat our virginity. We just give it away and commit Pre Marital Sex, but we don't realize that it is wrong. Though when we make mistakes like this, He is always going to give us more than a second chance.

    3. This gospel can address the problems in Human Sexuality, because it is a gift from God, and we should use it in the right way, to do what God tells us like to spread the word and Reproduce.

    1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?

The challenge I see here from this gospel is the greatest obstacle from true freedom itself: sin. From what I have read, Jesus tells us that no one is exempted from sin and that no sin is greater than any other sin. A sinner is a sinner, and the only way to detach ourselves from this is through repentance through the cross.

    2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.

I think the concept that is most fitting to this gospel is the "Freedom From" topic. We learn that God allows us to be free from sin through repentance. It is through Jesus' sacrifice for the human race that we have been granted a chance at eternal salvation with Him in Heaven. Through Him, we have freedom from sin.

    3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.

Jesus' sacrifice calls us to become better people and to not become slaves to our sin. We have been made free of the hold of temptation, and this allows us to push through this world full of obstacles that hinder our sexuality.

    1. The gospel tells us that one must be humble in order to attain peace. Also, the people should learn how to value God and out him in the center if our lives to have peace.
    2. We can relate it to human sexuality because a couple can only perform intercourse when they are married because they have to value love and marriage and not do intercourse for pleasure.
    3. This gospel can address the problems on chastity because it teaches us that we should value love and God to procreate and teach the future generations about the right knowledge on love

    1. This gospel shows that, all sin, no matter how big or small, must be repented for. We must not compare our sins to others because in the end, both is sin and no one is exempted from asking for repentance.
    2. I can say that this topic relates to Human sexuality. As Jesus talks about the fig tree, it reminds me of the love and commitment that will rightfully bear fruit.
    3. This gospel speaks of patience. We must have patience and not immediately dive into engaging in pre-marital sex. It teaches us to treasure god's gift of life.

    1. This gospel talks about the importance of repentance because this is one way of resolving one’s sins. Yes we are forgiven even before we ask for forgiveness but there is a need of reassurance that we are indeed truly sorry for our sins. Therefore, young people like me should be wholeheartedly sorry for the sins we have done.

    2. Among the revalida topics, this gospel can be applied to the lesson on sin: the greatest obstacle to authentic freedom. In the gospel, people were compared to each other based how they passed away or the different sins they have done. It is also seen that people must repent first before they are completely forgiven.

    3. This gospel addresses human sexuality by showing that staying pure and chaste is better in the eyes of God, rather than committing sin, which is why we should learn to value ourselves.

    1. This gospel lets us know that confessing our sins is critical in light of the fact that through the sacrament of reconciliation, we can request absolution from God for the sins we committed.
    2. I can relate the concepts of pre-marital sex in this gospel because a God gave us our sexuality to enable us to reproduce. Therefore, we should not take it for granted and use sex for pleasure.
    3. The gospel can overcome obstacles in light of the fact that regardless of the possibility that we commit sin, God will still grant us His forgiveness in the event that we confess our sins.

    1. The challenge posed in this gospel is the challenge to being vulnerable to sin anytime, anywhere due to the actions we have done against ourselves, others, and God.

    2. Freedom for, Freedom from, and Freedom Grounded in Truth are applicable here because God gave us the freedom to do what we believe is right, and if we do right then we are avoiding ourselves from sin. Morality's saying, "Do good, avoid evil" also applies here.

    3. The gospel relates to addressing the obstacles of human sexuality where it teaches us not to be astray from the path of chastity and purity in God's natural law. It tells us not to lead ourselves and others into temptations or anything that violates our sexuality and its state.

    1. This gospel shows that repenting to the Lord is the greatest act that you can do for God to have mercy on you. It shows that those who do not repent may receive greater punishment than those who do, even if the ones who have repented had a greater sin.

    2. This gospel can be related to that of the concept of Freedom in the Old Testament. The 10 Commandments that have been given to us are not here to restrict us, but instead give us freedom. And if even we sin, we may still be free as long as we repent to the Lord, and he will forgive us for whatever sin we have committed.

    3. Human Sexuality is a gift from God, and thus, we must take care of it. It can be related to the gospel, as there are many sins that may come from the concept of Human Sexuality, such as being anti-life like doing homosexual acts. Although, no matter what sin we commit, the one who receives the greatest punishment is the one who does not confess to God.

    1. In our society, people sin every minute without even knowing that they are. People don’t even know what sins they have committed, because of this; they don’t get to repent to God for their sins and mistakes. They keep on repeating their mistakes, yet they do not forgive. This gospel is about forgiveness and patience. God forgave all of our sins and He suffered in a very long journey. That’s a very great and hard deed to do. We should at least try to do the same and forgive.
    2. Since this gospel is mostly about forgiveness, I can relate this gospel to the lesson of conscience. Conscience is when you get an intuition that helps you decide what right is from wrong. By listening to your conscience, one should know that forgiveness is just the answer, instead of just holding a grudge.
    3. The purpose and goal of human sexuality is to love and to procreate. Actions that delay these are the obstacles an average human face on a daily basis, such as prostitution and pornography which prevents us from multiplying. Avoiding these unnecessary acts brings us closer to the Lord. But even when these obstacles are done, God still forgives.

    1. The gospel talks about how forgiving God is to sinful people. In the gospel, Jesus told His disciples about a person and his fig tree. The fig tree symbolizes us, humans, who have sinned so much yet we are still given a chance to repent from our sins and go back to our Lord God.

    2. The key concept that can be applied in this gospel is true freedom as well as human sexuality. This is because we are all given freedom by God. Since it is our choice whether to use that freedom in order to do good or bad, God still forgives us despite choosing the latter in terms of being free. For instance, people nowadays engage in sexual intercourse without being married or watch porn for pleasure. Despite doing all those things, this gospel shows that God will forgive us as long as we are willing to repent from sin.

    3. This gospel enables a person to overcome the obstacles of human sexuality because it reminds us that God is a forgiving God as long as we are willing to be forgiven. This shows us that no matter how sinful a person is, God will give the person various chances to be forgiven.

    1. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THIS GOSPEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY PARTICULARLY TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE YOU?
    - This talks about the importance of the sacrament of reconciliation. Now a days, people don't see the need for this holy sacrament. The fig tree symbolizes the humans who sin endlessly, but God always gives us the chance to repent and change our ways. That's how great God is - he is always willing to give another chance no matter what situation you're in.

    2. WHAT KEY CONCEPTS FROM THE REVALIDA TOPICS CAN YOU BEST APPLY HERE.DISCUSS THOROUGHLY.
    - The key concept from the revalida that can be applied here is the concept of true freedom. Since true freedom is loving God, then we must use our freedom to do good deeds. Another point is that God loves us so much that he gives us freedom, not only freedom, but forgiveness. We should always take this with a positive attitude.

    3. HOW CAN THIS GOSPEL ADDRESS THE OBSTACLES TO HUMAN SEXUALITY.

    1. This gospel tells of the importance of reconciliation with God. He will treat repentant sinners no differently than those who have never sinned in their entire lives, and He will always forgive, so long as we are sincere.

    2. We can connect this gospel to true freedom. God had given us free will, a will to love Him and others. That is what separates us from animals, who are slaves to their instincts. We have the choice to repent for our sins and to go with God, who is always willing to give a second chance.

    3. This shows that in God's eyes, we are all his children. No matter what we have done, no matter who we are, God is always willing to forgive our wrongs and repair our relationship with Him. We should also be like this and accept others for who they are.
